Generously giving their time, talent and efforts, they make such a difference in the lives of both critters and staff. Their energy and enthusiasm make all our events possible from Adoptions to the Fur Ball. Most of what they do is invisible, but our kitties have been thrilled with the new & very visible screened-in cat porch. This BIG job came to us through the hard work of Joe & Tanya Patton and Bruce & Margaret Timm, devoted volunteers who saw a need and found a way to fill it. There are so many ways you can help our animals – call our Volunteer Coordinator, Lori Carlson at 224-9193 or email [email protected] OF COMPA CY SS GA N IO General Membership Meeting Our Amazing Volunteers Petpourri Newsletter Winter 2010 196 0 - 2010 413 Timberlane Rd • Tallahassee, FL 32312 Phone: (850) 224-9193 • Fax: (850) 224-5209 [email protected] • www.LCHS.info L C HS is 50 years old and growing strong! Throughout 2010 staff, board members, volunteers and supporters proudly celebrated our five decades of helping pets and people! Festivities started early in the year with LCHS receiving Resolutions from Mayor Marks and the City & County Commissioners and partnering with our Chamber of Commerce in a Red Ribbon Ceremony at our office! Compass Marketing generously donated the production of a 50th Anniversary video and public service announcements and the billboard (shown below) was proudly displayed the month of July off Capital Circle. The great news is that our Foster Parents & staff helped to adopt 40% more animals in 2010 than in previous years. We commend all of our volunteers and supporters who have been such an integral part of our success as a vital community organization. Thousands of lives have been saved because people cared enough to make a difference! Paw Prints Calendars, the Purrrfect Holiday Gift! This holiday season give a gift that keeps on giving to homeless animals with our unique Paw Prints Calendar. The 2011 edition features the delightful faces of more than 250 local pets and all proceeds benefit the animal programs of LCHS. This one-of-a-kind calendar can be yours today for only a $10 donation and can be purchased at the LCHS office on Timberlane Road, by calling 224-9193, online at www.LCHS.info, or check our website to find a vet clinic or local business near you that is selling them! A $2.50 shipping fee will be added to your order when purchasing calendars online or by phone. They make the purrrrfect holiday gift for friends, family & co-workers! A very special thank you to Maria Stephens for her time & creative efforts in designing the calendar, and Committee Members Sharon Bruley & Richard Brisk who helped to make it such a successful fundraiser for the animals! We have been waiting for our forever homes for a long time... Trip has lots of love and energy to give. He came to us with a sad story and is looking for a happy ending after being in our foster program for nearly three years. When he was just a puppy, Trip and his brother were abandoned on the side of the road and Trip's leg was run over by oncoming traffic. He has since healed and can run and play like any other dog. Trip is a smart, active dog who needs further training. He loves people but may be a bit overwhelming for very small children. Trip is crate trained and housetrained. Trip Gwen & Emily are sisters who are joined at the hip. They must be adopted together and have been waiting for a forever home for almost four years. They are very sweet and people oriented, but would prefer to be the only cats in a household. They like to be petted while they lounge on either side of your lap, but will also eagerly chase a laser pen! If you are looking for a ready made pair of cats, look no further than these sweet sisters. Gwen & Emily were born in 2005. Gwen & Emily Howdy Pawtners…. “Tails of the Old West” Fabulous Fur Ball October 23rd Animal lovers dusted off their boots & best petticoats for this year’s high falutin‘ hoe down at LCHS’ 11th Annual Fur Ball. Everyone enjoyed food, fun, and dancing while bidding in the best silent auction in town, vying for wonderful items donated by individuals and local businesses. Once again the dynamic duo of John Dawson and Tammy Webb of STAR 98.9 radio were the emcees for the evening. The annual Purple Paw Awards were given to Don & Jean Gilbar for their work with feral cats; Bill Armstrong for many years saving lives in our foster care program, and Jan Collier for her education programs plus volunteering with many community animal groups. Also honored was Cocker Spaniel Extraordinaire, Travis Carlson, for his life-time work of helping others. All-in-all “Tails of the Old West” was a successful celebration for LCHS’ 50th Anniversary, raising thousands of dollars for local animals in need. We could not have had a fun and successful Fur Ball without the support of our Event Committee, Annual Sponsors, guests, businesses and individuals who donated services & merchandise and our incredible LCHS volunteers. Tickets were sold out this year so make sure you purchase yours early in 2011. You don’t want to miss the 12th Annual Fabulous Fur Ball. Florida State Employee Campaign ‒Help the Animals! Choose LCHS account #8090 and make a difference for animals in our community! Scrub-a-Dub-Dub, Many Dawgs in a Tub! A special thanks to our supporters & pets who came to the “Best Dog Washes in Town” held at LCHS April through September. More than 800 dogs were scrubbed clean and dried by hundreds of volunteers throughout the dog wash season! And in 2010 we expanded our services to include nail trimming. Our Dog Washes have been a tradition in Tallahassee for more than 20 years & help to raise much needed monies for our Animal Medical Care Fund. Special thanks to Liz Maryanski who volunteers as the Committee Chair, Uptown Café for providing delicious lunches for the volunteers, Patient’s First, TCC, STAR 98.9 and Novey Animal Clinic who help promote the washes and our awesome volunteers who are willing to get wet and dirty to clean the dawgs! Spaying & Neutering Makes A Difference! LCHS is proud of our four-year partnership with “Be the Solution” Foundation to provide free & discounted spay/neuter vouchers for companion animals.
