Laclede Gas Company Announces April as National Safe Digging Month Common Ground Alliance’s 1,500 members, the U.S. Department of Transportation, most governors and many mayors have proclaimed April as National Safe Digging Month as a way to bring extra attention to the issue and reduce the risk of unnecessary infrastructure damage. As part of National Safe Digging Month, CGA encourages homeowners to take the following steps when planning a digging project this spring: Always call 811 a few days before digging, regardless of the depth or familiarity with the property. Plan ahead. Call on Monday or Tuesday for work planned for an upcoming weekend, providing ample time for the approximate location of lines to be marked. Confirm with your local one call center that all lines have been marked. Learn what the various colors of paint and flags represent at www.call811.com/faqs (link is external). Consider moving the location of your project if it is near utility line markings. If a contractor has been hired, confirm that a call to 811 has been made. Don’t allow work to begin if the lines aren’t marked. F inally the weather is inviting us outside. Our great Parks and Recreation Department has many activities and events scheduled for you, your family and friends to enjoy, so come on out! Last month’s board of Aldermen meeting was very well-attended. I was pleased to present a proclamation to three citizens that contributed in saving the life of a vehicle accident victim. Chief of Police LaGrand also presented commendations from the police department. We can all be proud of our City and its citizens and once again applaud these men for their bravery and quick response in a potentially very dangerous situation. News from Ameren Electric The Comprehensive Plan continues to progress with an interactive workshop to map out the types of development, projects, and improvements we desire over the next 15 to 20 years. Share your vision Wednesday, April 8 at 7:00 pm in the Community Center gym. Finally if it’s April, it’s election time. April 7 is your chance to make your voice heard. Typically around 2,000 voters turn out in April, so your vote WILL count. Very Sincerely, Mayor Mark Furrer ATM, checking or saving account numbers to anyone who comes to your home, calls or sends an email requesting this information. I n observance of National Consumer Protection Week, Ameren would like to take this opportunity to warn customers in Missouri and Illinois to be aware of scam artists who are using Ameren’s name illegally. Please feel free to share this information with your communities in newsletters, on your website, and on social media. Last year an estimated 1,400 Ameren customers were affected by phone scams totaling more than $23,000. The majority of scams reported to Ameren threatened disconnection of utility service unless a payment was made immediately from a pre-paid money card over the phone. Some thieves have even come right to customer doors. Ameren’s director of corporate security, Tim Reagan, told us “We’ve received reports of scam artists coming to homes and businesses suggesting that there are problems with electrical equipment. “Scammers will demand payment for repairs that don’t exist. We never demand payment at a customer’s home or business.” Ameren offers these tips against scammers: • Ameren never demands personal, account or financial information for immediate payment. Never give your credit card, debit card, Social Security, European Wax Center Along with the great parts of springtime come the perils of potholes. Our Public Works Department is ready to take care of these nasty things. You may call them, or go to our web site and click “Report A Concern”. Just let us know. • Ameren field employees do not accept payments. • Never let anyone into your home claiming to be from the utility unless they show proper Ameren badge identification. Ameren never sends emails that include attachments, unless you’ve contacted us to specifically request information. Never open attachments unless you’ve contacted Ameren and are expecting to receive information. Ameren continues to work with federal, state and local authorities to investigate utility scams. “We know how important it is to keep customers’ information safe and secure, and we appreciate any information they can provide to help eliminate these scams altogether,” said Reagan. If you suspect someone is impersonating an Ameren employee, end the conversation and immediately call Ameren Illinois at 1.800.755.5000 or Ameren Missouri at 1.800.552.7583. Customers can also follow Ameren on social media to receive the latest updates on scams.
