erst seit 1945 zu Hellas. Nur zwanzig Kilometer von der türkischen Küste entfernt, nennt man sie die Sonneninsel, aber auch der Name Waldinsel
würde ihr gut stehen. Sonne, Wald und Meer gibt es also im Überfluss, und
ein vollkommener Urlaubstag muss von alldem etwas bieten, dazu noch etwas Kultur und landestypische Speisen. Wenn man dann noch die Musse
hat, sich treiben zu lassen, den Impulsen zu folgen statt zu planen, streift man das Tourist-Sein ab
und wird zum Reisenden. Der Tag beginnt in Lindos, dem irrgartengleichen Dorf an der Ostküste.
Am Fuss des Hügels einer verfallenen Akropolis wirken die weissen Häuser wie hingestreut, und
der Denkmalschutz wacht darüber, dass es auch so bleibt. In den Sechziger Jahren lebten hier
Künstler, Maler und Schriftsteller und verliehen dem Ort eine gewisse Aura, die er nicht verloren
hat. Von der Akropolis hat man eine fantastische Aussicht auf die Paulus-Bucht, wo der Apostel
an Land gegangen sein soll, sowie auf die Vlicha-Bucht im Norden. Da man durch die engen Gassen von Lindos nur zu Fuss kommt, muss man etwas Zeit mitbringen. Die Begegnung mit dem Meer
findet in der Vlicha-Bucht bei Kalathos statt, wo gerade das Wasserschiff mit Süsswasser betankt
wird. Es versorgt die umliegenden Inseln bis hin zu Symi im Norden mit Trinkwasser. Das ruhige
Meer lädt zu einem Bad ein, aber wenn die Sonne hoch oben steht, wird die Vorstellung eines kühlen Waldes verführerischer. Das nächste Ziel wartet im Tal der sieben Quellen, Epta Piges, an der
Strasse von Kolymbia nach Archipoli gelegen. Die schmale Seitenstrasse führt steil bergauf, bevor
man in ein kleines Tal gelangt. Sieben Quellen speisen einen Bach, der wiederum in einem See gestaut wird. Üppige Vegetation, Wasserfälle sowie schattenspendende Pinien machen das Klima
sehr angenehm, und in einem Ausflugslokal kann man sich erfrischen und stärken. Wilde Orchideen wachsen hier und zahlreiche Pfauen bevölkern den Wald. Zurück in Kalathos, hilft der zum
Abendessen in Adonis’ Restaurant frisch gegrillte Octopus bei der Ideensuche für den nächsten Tag.

You could call Rhodes the youngest of the Greek islands, as it has only been part of the Hellenic Republic
since 1945. Located a mere 20 kilometers from the Turkish coast, it is known as the Island of Sun, although
the name forest island would suit just as well. It provides sun, forest and sea in abundance and the perfect
day should have a little of each, as well as a bit of culture and some local cuisine. If you allow yourself to
drift, to follow your impulses rather than plan, you turn from a tourist into a traveler. The day begins in
Lindos, a maze-like village on the east coast. Beneath the ruins of an acropolis, the white houses look like
they have been scattered and their status as listed buildings ensures they stay that way. In the sixties,
artists, painters and writers lived in this village and it still has this certain aura from times gone by. From
the acropolis you have a fantastic view of St Paul’s Bay, where the apostle is said to have landed, and of
Vlicha Bay to the north. The narrow alleyways of Lindos can only be negotiated on foot, so you need a
little time. You meet the sea at Vlicha Bay, near Kalathos where a tanker fills up to provide drinking water
to the outlying islands as far as Symi in the north. The peaceful sea invites you in for a dip, but with the
sun directly above a cool forest is perhaps even more tempting. The next destination is the valley of seven
springs, Epta Piges, on the road from Kolymbia to Archipoli. The narrow backroad heads steeply uphill
before heading into a small valley. Seven springs feed a stream, which is dammed in a lake. Rich vegetation,
waterfalls and shade-giving pines ensure a pleasant climate and a local pub serves food and drinks. The

Basaren, und so erstaunt es nicht, dass sich mittelalterliche Festungen neben sozialistischen Denkmälern befinden, islamische Architektur neben römischen Bauwerken und antiken Ausgrabungen.
Kunst und Kultur werden in Skopje gross geschrieben. Originellerweise befindet sich die ­Nationale
Kunstgalerie mit einer beachtlichen Sammlung aus dem 18. und 19. Jahrhundert im ehemaligen DautPascha-Hammam. Das Badehaus bot entgegen seinem bedeutungsvollen Namen auch für Damen
Nutzung, wenn auch die Räume geschlechtergetrennt waren. Das wohl bekannteste Wahrzeichen
der Stadt ist die Festung Kale mit ihrer imposanten Erscheinung, die westlich der Altstadt auf einer

had gender-specific rooms. Towering on a ledge in the western part of town, the stately Kale fortress
probably is the best known landmark. Another popular sight is the bridge built by Ottoman architects
in the 15th century. It connects the Old Town with its cobblestone alleys and legendary bazaar with the
prospering New Town where visitors can enjoy cultural events and a vibrant nightlife and are spoilt for
choice among the many innovative gastronomic venues along the Vardar. If you want to rest your legs
tired from touring, find a bench in a calming meadow or under a shady tree along the artificial lakes and

von Frühling bis Spätherbst: Die Perle im Mittelmeer heisst Calvi und liegt
im Norden der Insel Korsika. Bereits Napoleon Bonaparte wusste: «Die Liebe hat viele Gesichter» und meinte mit einem davon bestimmt seine Heimat Korsika. Bereits der Anflug auf Calvi ist spektakulär: Auf der rechten
Seite erhebt sich die Zitadelle auf einem Felsvorsprung über der idyllischen
Stadt, die schon manchem Angriff getrotzt haben mag. Auf der linken Seite erstreckt sich die sechs
Kilometer lange Bucht mit pudrigem weissem Sand, umgeben von tiefblauem Meer, das in der
allgegenwärtigen Sonne glitzert. Und schon landen wir im Paradies. Die viertgrösste Stadt der Insel begeistert nicht nur aus der Vogelperspektive. Am liebsten würde man die herrliche Natur, die

Antoine, das mit seinen Fresken aus dem 15. und 16. Jahrhundert so manches «Ah!» und «Oh!» zu
entlocken vermag. Der Besucher wird oben auf der Bastion mit einer warmen Meeresbrise und einer
wunderschönen Aussicht zum 2706 m hohen Berg Monte Cristo und weiter über den Golf von Revellata bis hin zum gleichnamigen Kap belohnt. Und in der Unterstadt lässt sich das bunte Treiben

Der erste Airbus A321 ergänzt die Flotte. Der Unterschied zu den A319 liegt in

laufend aufgestockt.

has made good on that promise. In addition to
expanding its fleet to include an Airbus A321, the airline
with the green logo continuously is increasing its staff of
crew members.

Aller Anfang ist – bürokratisch, auch im Airlinebusiness. Das Bundesamt
für Zivilluftfahrt BAZL schreibt mit klaren Richtlinien vor, welche Auf­
lagen erfüllt und welche Positionen zwingend besetzt sein müssen, damit
das AOC (Air Operator Certificate), die Betriebsbewilligung, überhaupt
erteilt wird. Diese Posten werden «Nominated Functions» genannt und
bestehen aus insgesamt sieben Positionen. Diese setzen sich aus einem
Accountable sowie einem Safety Manager zusammen, einem Compliance
Monitoring Manager sowie einer Nominated Person Flight Operation, und
ausserdem braucht es je eine Nominated Person für Ground Operation,
Crew Training sowie zur Continuing Airworthiness, die Sicherstellung der
Lufttüchtigkeit oder, in anderen Worten, die Technik. Auch der Personalbestand einer Airline errechnet sich nach streng festgelegten Richtlinien.
So ist beispielsweise vorgeschrieben, dass auf jeder Maschine ein Pilot, ein
Kopilot und eine Flugbegleiterin oder ein Flugbegleiter pro 50 Sitzplätze
eingesetzt werden müssen.

Eine Handvoll Mitarbeiter haben das Startup zusammen mit Urs Pelizzoni,
Verwaltungsratspräsident Germania Flug AG, seit der Gründung Ende
August 2014 begleitet. Bevor die Airline zum Jungfernflug abhob, fanden
diverse Schulungskurse für das insgesamt 35 Personen zählende Kabinenpersonal statt. Heute, ein Jahr später, arbeiten rund 80 Personen beim
prosperierenden Unternehmen, wobei das grösste Wachstum im März 2015
nach der Erteilung des AOC zu verzeichnen ist.

All beginnings entail a substantial amount of red tape
and the airline business is no exception. The Federal
Office of Civil Aviation has clear guidelines regarding
the specificat ions to be met and the posit ions to be
filled in order for the Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC)
to be granted. These nominated functions include seven
posit ions: accountable, safet y manager, compliance
monitoring manager, a nominated person flight operation,
as well as nominated persons for ground operations, crew
training and continuing airworthiness which, in short,
means technology. An airline’s staff also is subject to strict
guidelines. For example, each aircraft has to be operated
by a pilot, a copilot and one flight attendant for every 50
seats.

courses for the cabin crew of 35. Today, one year later,
close to 80 people work for the prospering corporation that
experienced its largest growth spurt in March 2015 after
