Hallo ihr Lieben!
Hier kommt der Newsletter für den Monat Juli – der letzte Newsletter, den wir in diesem Semester
an Euch verschicken. Wir hoffen, dass Ihr eine aufregende Zeit mit vielen neuen Eindrücken und
Begegnungen erlebt habt. Wir wünschen allen, die nach diesem Semester wieder nach Hause
fliegen, auf diesem Weg schon einmal einen schönen letzten Monat in Bonn und hoffen, Euch
einmal wiederzusehen.
Aber vorher gibt es in diesem Monat noch drei große gemeinsame Events, zu denen Ihr hoffentlich
zahlreich erscheinen werdet!
Erstmal sehen wir uns beim Grillen am 4. Juli! 

1. Für alle Studierenden, die nach diesem Semester nach Hause fliegen: Bitte achtet auf die EMail von Bärbel Heurich, die Ihr in diesen Tagen bekommen werdet. Hier geht es um
Formalitäten rund um den Auszug. Solltet Ihr die E-Mail nicht erhalten, gebt bitte Bärbel
Heurich Bescheid: [email protected]
 Bitte denkt daran, vor Eurer Abreise alle obligatorischen Formulare auszufüllen und
zusammen mit Eurer TK-Versichertenkarte bei uns (in der Poppelsdorfer Allee 102)
oder während der Kaffeestunde (Mi. 12-14 Uhr) abzugeben. Hierzu folgen aber nähere
Informationen.
Montag, 04. Juli: 4th of July BBQ auf der Poppelsdorfer Allee
Grillen ist im Sommer das liebste Hobby der Deutschen. Würstchen, Kartoffelsalat und schönes
Wetter gehören dazu. Wir möchten am Abend mit Euch zusammen grillen und sorgen für
Getränke und Würstchen. Auch würden wir uns freuen, wenn Ihr Salate, Desserts oder Fingerfood
mitbringen könntet.
Das Grillen findet auf der Wiese vor dem Internationalen Club, Höhe Poppelsdorfer Allee 53, statt.
Es geht um 18:00 Uhr los.
Für diese Veranstaltung bestand Anmeldepflicht! Die Anmeldefrist ist bereits verstrichen!
Donnerstag, 14. Juli: Exkursion nach Brühl und Führung durch das Schloss
Augustusburg
Die Schlösser Augustusburg und Falkenlust in Brühl gehören mit zu den bedeutendsten
Meisterwerken des Rokoko in Deutschland. Ebenso sehenswert ist die wunderschöne barocke
Gartenanlage, die bei schönem Wetter nach unserer Schlossführung zum Entspannen einlädt
Treffpunkt ist um 14:45 Uhr in der Eingangshalle des Bonner Hauptbahnhofs.
Ihr werdet per E-Mail zu dieser Veranstaltung eingeladen und könnt Euch dann in den
Kaffeestunden oder per E-Mail dafür anmelden. Bitte denkt daran, dass Ihr Euch nur anmeldet,
wenn Ihr definitiv wisst, dass Ihr dabei sein werdet!
Freitag, 22. Juli: Abschlussevent – Schifffahrt auf dem Rhein
Bei hoffentlich gutem Wetter könnt Ihr während unserer Rundfahrt auf dem Rhein die herrliche
Aussicht genießen. Die Schifffahrt ist unser Abschlussevent, auf dem auch unsere GewinnerInnen
des Photocontests gekürt werden. Lasst Euch diese wunderbare Gelegenheit nicht entgehen, noch
einmal zusammen mit allen und uns Eure Zeit hier in Bonn zu feiern.
Treffpunkt ist um 17:45 Uhr am Brassertufer, 53111 Bonn.

Dienstag, 5. Juli: Climate Change, the Ocean and Us - Susan Avery
Die US-Amerikanerin Susan Avery (Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution) hält im Bonner
Universitätsforum einen Vortrag über den Klimawandel und dessen Auswirkungen, die uns alle
betreffen. Der Vortrag ist ein Teil der “Lecture Series“ der Vereinten Nationen unter Federführung
von Generalsekretär Ban Ki-moon in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Forum für Internationale
Wissenschaft.

Samstag, 16. Juli: Kölner Lichter
Das Kölner Pendant zum Bonner „Rhein in Flammen“ ist eines der schönsten musiksynchronen
Höhenfeuerwerke und verwandelt Köln in ein Meer aus Lichtern und Farben.
Ab ca. 21.50 Uhr bewegt sich in Köln-Porz ein aus 50 festlich beleuchteten Schiffen bestehender
Konvoi rheinabwärts - begleitet von Begrüßungs-Feuerwerken und bengalischen Ausleuchtungen
an Land. Der Schiffskonvoi wird von den Besuchern am Rhein mit hunderttausenden
Wunderkerzen begrüßt. Um 23.30 Uhr beginnt das große Hauptfeuerwerk.
Seid früh da, denn es wird voll!

Sonntag, 17. Juli: Semesterabschlusskonzert der Camerata musicale
„Naturgewalten“ ist im Sommersemester 2016 das Projekt der Camerata musicale. Unter Leitung
von Martin Kirchharz kommen neben Smetanas sinfonischer Dichtung „Die Moldau“ auch
Mendelssohns dritte Sinfonie („Schottische“) sowie das Werk „Geysir“ des isländischen
Komponisten Jón Leifs zur Aufführung.

Montag 18. Juli: Öffentliche Vorlesung – Gibt es einen Rassismus nach dem NeoRassismus? Perspektiven für eine Konjunkturanalyse
Dieser öffentliche Vortrag von Manuela Bojadžijev (Institut für Soziologie und Kulturorganisation,
Lüneburg) innerhalb der Vortragsreihe der Abteilung Kulturanthropologie/Volkskunde beschäftigt
sich mit dem Thema Rassismus in der heutigen Gesellschaft. Die Zielgruppen sind besonders
Studenten, Professoren und Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter. Wenn Ihr eine inhaltliche Einordnung
zum Thema Rassismus haben möchtet und Euch interessiert, seid Ihr bei diesem Vortrag genau

Dear all,
last but not least, our newsletter for July – and the last newsletter for this semester. Time flies by,
and we hope that you enjoyed the past semester, made new friends and had plenty of chances to
explore Bonn and Germany. To all of you who are leaving us at the end of this semester, have a
great last month in Bonn, and a safe trip home. We would love to see you again some day!
But before we have to say goodbye, there will be three more events coming up this month.

1. Those among you who will leave Bonn at the semester’s end, Bärbel Heurich will send you
an email with everything you need to know in regard to the formalities for your departure.

 Please note that before you leave you will need to fill out various forms and return
these, together with your TK Insurance ID to us. You can either hand in everything
at out office on Poppelsdorfer Allee 102 or during the “Kaffeestunde” on

Monday, July 4: 4th of July BBQ on Poppelsdorfer Allee
Barbecuing is the favorite activity of Germans throughout the summer – sausages and potato
salad are crucial parts of enjoying the good weather! Therefore, we would like to spend the
evening barbecuing with you. We will provide drinks and sausages, yet we would greatly
appreciate if you could bring salads, desserts or finger foods as well.
The barbecue will take place in front of the International Club, close to the Poppelsdorfer Allee 53
and will begin at 6 p.m.
The registration deadline for this event has already passed!
Thursday, July 14: Excursion to Brühl - Guided Tour through the Augustusburg
Palace
The Augustusburg Palace in Brühl belongs to the most renowned Rococo masterpieces in Germany.
The gardens are equally famous and a must-see for any visitor, and they are perfect for enjoying
the lovely weather (let’s keep our fingers crossed!) after a guided tour through the Augustusburg
Palace!
The meeting point is the main entrance of Bonn Central Station at 2:45 p.m.
You will be invited via email to this event and can register via email or during the “Kaffeestunde”.

Friday, July 22: Farewell Event – Rhine River Cruise
With (hopefully) good weather we will enjoy the beautiful view on Bonn during a river cruise. The
river cruise will be our farewell event, during which we will also announce the winners of this
year’s photo contest. Do not miss this unique chance to spend a beautiful evening with your
friends and with us to celebrate your study abroad experience here in Bonn!
The meeting point is the Brassertufer, 53111 Bonn, at 5:45 p.m.

Tuesday, July 5: Climate Change, the Ocean and Us – Susan Avery
Between April and July, six distinguished members of the SAB, whose respective research fields
are also represented in Bonn’s international scientific and academic landscape, will report on their
current research and discuss recent developments with a professional audience and the interested
public at the University of Bonn. Susan Avery is the first female director of the Woods Hole
Oceanographic Institution and she will talk about climate change, the Ocean and its effects on us.
Place: Forum Internationale Wissenschaft (FIW), Bonner Universitätsforum
Time: 6:15 p.m.

Saturday, July 16: Cologne Lights
Germany's biggest high-altitude fireworks display will transform Cologne into a breathtaking ocean
of colors. With its special ambiance, the event appeals to hundreds of thousands of visitors.
In the afternoon, river cruises at the Porz Groov Island will be setting sail for the Old Town, passing
nine fireworks and colorful Bengal fires.
Whoever likes may shake a leg and swing their hips to the music. There will also be theater or
cabaret programs and all of Cologne will be down at the Rhine to watch the spectacular firework
Join the many enthusiastic spectators to cheer the passing boats and wave your candles and
sparklers as soon as the first ship shows up. The stunning view of the romantic Old Town, which
will be illuminated by the fireworks, is an unforgettable experience.
Be there early, the place is going to be packed!

Sunday, July 17: Camerata musicale – Semester Closing Concert
This semester, the project of the Camerata musicale is called ´Forces of Nature´. Under Martin
Kirchharz’s guidance, the music company will play Smetana’s symphonic poem “Die Moldau“ as
well as Mendelssohn’s third symphony (“Schottische“) and the magnum opus “Geysir“ of the
Islandic composer Jón Leifs.
Place: Main building of the University, Am Hof, 53113 Bonn
Time: 11:00 a.m. -01:15 p.m.

Monday, July 18: Public Lecture – Gibt es einen Rassismus nach dem NeoRassismus? Perspektiven für eine Konjunkturanalyse
Manuela Bojadžijev’s (Institute of Sociology and Cultural Organization, University of Lüneburg)
public lecture is part of the lecture series organized by the Department of
Anthropology/Ethnology deals with the topic of racism in today´s society.
The potential audience consists of students, professors and scientific assistants. If you are
interested in a socio-historical perspective on racism, this lecture will be most helpful for you.
