der Mai ist da und mit ihm scheint auch das Wetter besser zu werden!  Wir hoffen, dass Ihr alle
gut in den Mai „getanzt“ seid, wie es in Deutschland Tradition ist. Sicher habt Ihr auch schon die
wunderschön geschmückten Maibäume entdeckt, die in diesem Jahr die Frauen für ihren Liebsten
aufgestellt haben. Ein Brauch, den es vor allem im Rheinland und Süden Deutschlands gibt.
Normalerweise ist dies Aufgabe der Männer, aber jedes Schaltjahr sind die Frauen an der Reihe 

Wichtige Hinweise:
1. Im Monat Mai gibt es drei Feiertage:



Am Donnerstag, den 5. Mai ist Christi Himmelfahrt, hier findet keine Uni statt und
die Geschäfte sind geschlossen. Auch das International Office bleibt an diesem Tag
geschlossen.
Am Montag, dem 16. Mai ist Pfingstmontag, hier findet ebenfalls keine Uni statt
und die Geschäfte sind geschlossen. Auch das International Office bleibt an diesem

Am Donnerstag, den 26. Mai ist Fronleichnam, hier findet ebenfalls keine Uni statt
und die Geschäfte sind geschlossen. Auch das International Office bleibt an diesem
Tag geschlossen.
2. Vom 16. – 20. Mai sind Pfingstferien und in dieser ganzen Woche finden weder Uni-Kurse
noch Kurse vom International Office statt. Das International Office ist allerdings regulär
vom 17. – 20. Mai für Euch geöffnet.
3. Am 25. Mai findet der „Dies Academicus“ statt. An diesem Tag fallen der reguläre
Unterricht sowie die Kurse vom International Office aus, und an der Universität finden eine
Vielzahl von Veranstaltungen und Vorträgen statt, die aktuelle Forschungsthemen an der
Universität aufgreifen. Dies ist eine gute Gelegenheit, sich über Forschung und Lehre an
der Universität Bonn zu informieren. Besonders interessant ist für Euch die
„Auslandsstudienmesse“ mit vielseitigem Programm und Fotowettbewerb. Mehr

Dienstag, 10. Mai 2016: Bonn Buddy Event - Minigolf
Ein beliebter Freizeitspaß in Deutschland bei Jung und Alt, der sportliche Gemüter fordert, ist
Minigolf. Für diese Freizeitaktivität fahren wir gemeinsam mit Euch in den Freizeitpark an den
Rheinauen.
Treffpunkt ist um 17.30 Uhr in der Eingangshalle im Hauptbahnhof. Von dort aus gehen wir dann
gemeinsam zum Bussteig.
Ihr wurdet per E-Mail zu dieser Veranstaltung eingeladen.
Mittwoch, 25. Mai: Dies Academicus, Auslandstudienmesse
Unter dem Motto „Blickwechsel“ wird in der Aula im Hauptgebäude von 11:00 - 16:00 Uhr die
bereits 7. Auslandsstudienmesse stattfinden. Dazu werden Länderstände organisiert, an denen
deutsche Returnees und internationale Studierende über Ihre jeweiligen Gast- bzw.
Heimathochschulen beraten und informieren. Neben Informationen zum Studium im Ausland
erhaltet Ihr auch viele Informationen von internationalen Initiativen und Netzwerken, über die Ihr
mit anderen internationalen Studierenden in Kontakt treten könnt.
Herzlich möchten wir Euch auch dazu anregen, aktiv an der Messe mitzuwirken!

Samstag, 7. Mai 2016: Rhein in Flammen – 30 Jahre
Rhein in Flammen ist das jährliche Highlight der ehemaligen Bundeshauptstadt Deutschlands und
feiert in diesem Jahr sein 30-Jähriges Jubiläum. Es ist eine große Show zu erwarten, viele bekannte
Künstler aus der Umgebung werden ihre Songs zum Besten geben und als Krönung wird es ein
Feuerwerk der Superlative geben. Also lasst Euch dieses Event nicht entgehen!

Mai – 24. Juli 2016: Pina Bausch und das Tanztheater
Die Bundeskunsthalle präsentiert wieder eine neue Ausstellung zu Pina Bausch. Diesmal wird der
Probenraum der bekannten Tanzchoreografin nachgestellt, in dem Performances, TanzWorkshops, öffentliche Proben, Gespräche, Filme und mehr für die Besucher dargestellt werden
und die ZuschauerInnen somit einen Einblick in das intensive Arbeitsleben der Wuppertalerin
erhalten.

Mittwoch, 25. Mai 2016: Raus mit der Sprache - PoetrySLAM
Wer in das Land der Dichter und Denker, das laut Madame de Staël bereits im 19. Jahrhundert
Faszination auslöste, reist, der sollte einmal einen ‚Poetry Slam‘ erlebt haben. Bei dieser Art von
Kunst vermischen sich Moderne und Klassik, es werden aktuelle Themen aufgegriffen und mit viel
Witz erreicht „Poetry“ wieder einen ganz neuen Stellenwert – vor allem beim jungen Publikum.

the month of May has arrived and it seems that the weather is getting better now!  We hope
that you all “danced” well into the month of May, a beloved tradition here in Germany. Also, you
might already have discovered the decorated may poles. Usually, men put up decorated maypoles
for their sweethearts. However, each leap year, it’s the women’s turn to set them up for their
partners. It’s a folkway particular to the Rhineland and in the south of Germany, where even the
smallest towns put up huge and colorful may poles in their town centers.

PLEASE NOTE:
1. There are three public holidays during the month of May:



May 14th is “Christi Himmelfahrt” (Ascension Day) - University classes are canceled
and shops are closed. The International Office will be closed as well.
May 16th is “Pfingstmontag” (Pentecost Monday) – University classes are canceled
and shops are closed. The International Office will be closed as well.
May 26th is “Fronleichnam” (Corpus Christi) - University classes are canceled and
shops are closed. The International Office will be closed as well.
2. May 16th – May 20th are Pentecost holidays at the University of Bonn. There will be no
University nor International Office classes throughout this week. However, please note that
the International Office is open regularly from May 17th – 20th.
3. Monday 25th marks the university’s Dies Academicus – Regular classes (both from the
University and from the International Office) are cancelled and instead, the university
offers a variety of events and presentations that highlight the university’s ongoing research
projects and interests. Take the chance to get to know more about the university!
Tuesday, May 10th: Bonn Buddy Event - Minigolf
Minigolf is a traditional activity good for the young and old in Germany. For this recreational and
fun activity, we will go with you to the Rheinauen – cross your fingers that the weather will be
sunny and warm!
We will meet at 5:30 PM in the entrance hall of Bonn main station. We will then go to the bus
station together.
You have already received an email with more detailed information about this event.
Wednesday, May 25th: Study Abroad University Fair
On Wednesday, May 25th, 2016, the International Office organizes the 7th Study Abroad Fair at
the Aula/Hauptgebäude from 11 AM to 4 PM. There will be stands for different countries where
German returnees and international students can represent their host-/home- university.
We invite you to actively participate at the Study Abroad Fair!
You would like to represent you home country or help German students with their choice to study
at your home university? Then take part and feel free to write an email to Hendrik from the

Saturday, May 7th 2016: “Rhein in Flammen – 30 Years”
“Rhein in Flammen” is a highlight every year in the old capital of Germany. This year the event is
celebrating its 30th jubilee so you can expect a big show. A lot of known artists from the region will
be part of the show, there will be free concerts the whole day and as soon as it’s dark outside, a
spectacular firework is arranged. Don’t miss this event!

May –July 24th 2016: Pina Bausch and the Dancing Theatre
The “Bundeskunsthalle” proudly presents another exhibition about Pina Bausch. This time the
rehearsal room is rebuilt for the spectator to feel how the famous dance choreographer was
preparing for her shows. In this room, you can also discover interviews, movies, dance workshops
and much more to get an impression of the intensive life of Pina Bausch.

Wednesday, May 25th 2016: ‘Raus mit der Sprache – PoetrySLAM’
Living in the land of poets and thinkers, you should have at least once experienced a “Poetry Slam”.
The art of the poetry slam mingles (post-)modernity with the classics, and current topics are taken
up and with a lot of wit and creativity. And because it’s a slam, artists will try to win over their
audience with all they’ve got – an event quite popular among young adults and always a great
surprise of what you can do with the German language
