“WILLKOMMEN
IN BERLIN!”
Less effort.
More fun.
Regardless if this is your first trip to
Berlin or if you already feel like “ein
Berliner,” our bike tours are great ways
to see the city and understand what
makes Berlin so special.
Berlin is almost 9 times the size of
Paris yet very flat and bike-friendly.
Our tours take advantage of this. We
prefer bike paths, parks, and lesstraveled roads so that your bike
adventure is fun and stress-free.
Families welcome! Kids’ bikes,
trailers and seats available.
Our expert guides provide fascinating anecdotes to deliver relevant
information you’ll absorb and take
with you.
We make sure to divide up large
groups for the highest standard of
personal service. We have a wide
selection of tours and an array of
new bikes to choose from.
Enjoy local culture in a beautiful
beer garden in the park.
We stop every few hundred meters
to discuss the sights and take photos, so our tours aren’t the least bit
strenuous. Why punish your feet
walking? We make sure you enjoy
our tours at the perfect pace.
Fat Tire Bike Tours has been seen in, among others:
Have fun, even if it rains! Rain
gear and gloves available.
What’s more, we let you pay at the
end of your tour, so if you’re not
completely convinced our tours –
and our level of service – are the
best ways to experience Berlin, then
the tour is on us! That’s our guarantee to you and it’s why you pay
after the tour. Ride with the best!

ABOUT
OUR TEAM
Our native English-speaking bike tour guides are extremely
knowledgeable, very personable and masters of group chemistry.
Alex, from Toronto, holds a degree in History and Politics and is now in his seventh season. His specialties are
sharing hidden Cold War sites and how the city is in flux.
Bodine, from California, is in his seventh season. He has
a BA in History and is everything from published writer
to hot sauce specialist.
With more than 12 years’ experience, here
are just a few of the reasons why we’ve
conducted more bike tours for more satisfied customers than all the rest:
Lucy, from Melbourne, first visited Berlin in 2009 and
yearned to return ever since. When not on tour you’ll
find her at a flea market.
Merren, from Victoria, Australia, isn’t using her Japanese
degree here, but, in addition to leading tours, does apply her Media degree to run our communications.
★ Our Focus: Bike tours and bike rentals are our business. As opposed to using promotional gimmicks or being a side project to walking tours, we simply focus on what we do best: providing great bike
tours in a great city.
Kieran, from Ireland and in his third season, studied German at university. When not impressing on both bike and
Segway tours, he’s running our social media presence.
★ Our Tours: We have a full range of tours for every interest. Themed
tours in Berlin, E-Bike tours of the city, day-trips to Potsdam, and fun
food tours are all on offer!
Cian, from Dublin, is our resident beer brewer. He studied History and Political Science before returning to
what was his favorite vacation spot: Berlin.
★ Our Bikes: Our stylish beach cruisers and step-through city bikes
are easy and comfortable to ride. Our bikes are maintained by full-time
mechanics and we’re one of few insured as a Bike Tour Operator.
★ Our Service: Tours, rentals, optional helmets, kids’ bikes, travel assistance, clean bathrooms, credit card acceptance, hot tea and gloves
on cold days, luggage storage, free Internet… all delivered from our
friendly and knowledgeable staff.
★ Our Commitment: We work hard at being a top-rated Berlin activity. We take it personally that you have a great time with us, and take
payment at the end of the tour only if you are completely satisfied.
Enjoy the authentic Fat Tire Bike Tours experience
Fat Tire Bike Tours was chosen for the Discovery
Channel’s “5 Takes Europe” Berlin episode. Over
the years companies have sprung up trying to mimic the Fat Tire
Bike Tours experience. Accept no substitutes.
Ciarán, our unforgettable Irishman, has been leading
tours for seven seasons. Not only does he have a real
gift of gab, but is also an accomplished photographer.
Andrew, from Wisconsin where he also earned his history degree, has been doing bike tours in Berlin, Paris,
and Prague for more years than he can count.
Alistair, from Scotland, is now in his third season. Having recently completed his master’s degree in composition, you can find him jamming out jazz when not on tour.
Tomas, in his fifth season, comes from England and has
a degree in International Studies. When not leading
tours, he’s planning snowboarding adventures.
Laila, in her sixth season with Fat Tire, is our architecture guru and Evening Food Tour specialist.

Take our slogan “See More. Less Effort.
More Fun” to a new level. With the ease
of riding E-Bikes, this is our Day City Tour
and then some!
Limited group size: Our E-Bike Tour
has a maximum of ten participants
so you will get an amazing semi-private tour experience.
“Biking is fun anyway, but e-biking
through a new city was totally
exhilarating. We saw so many cool
places, we can't wait to come back
to Berlin… This tour really made the
city come alive for us.”
C.L., USA ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Best of Berlin: Venture even further
than our Day City Tour to take in
Kreuzberg in the former West. We’ll
even go to the former Tempelhof
airport, now a massive park, where
you can enjoy the thrill of almost effortlessly biking the old runways by
E-Bike.
Future of biking: E-Bikes are the latest green technology for biking.
Turning the pedal on an E-Bike triggers the bike’s power assistance,
allowing you to quickly accelerate
to over 20 km/h without breaking a
sweat.
Easy and fun: It’s just like riding a
bike! Even if you have never ridden
an E-Bike you will be amazed at how
easy and fun it is!

EVENING FOOD TOUR
BY BIKE
Have a great evening out! Enjoy Berlin’s
café culture and sample food (included!)
on our relaxed evening food bike tour
through Berlin’s quaint neighborhoods.
A tour like no other: Join us as we
combine the fun of a relaxing evening
bike ride, the history of Berlin’s colorful neighborhoods, and the tastes of
a worldly city.
Sample food (included): Over the
course of the evening you will be
treated to a “three-course meal,”
pieced together from places in neighborhoods we frequent. We’ll prove
that Berlin’s cuisine is far from pork
knuckles and sauerkraut.
Off the beaten path: We head into
the vibrant Prenzlauer Berg district
and its wide tree-lined boulevards. It’s
home to Berlin’s largest synagogue,
many former squats, some of the edgiest bars, and the Berlin Wall Memorial, yet has one of Europe’s highest
birth rates. Have a blast as we dissect
the nuances of this crazy microcosm.

& COLD WAR TOUR
Head away from the Mitte district and the
pedestrian Cold War sites to take in more
of the Wall, more of the former East, and
more of the division still visible in Berlin.
Hitler’s rise: Understand the circumstances that allowed a maniac like
Hitler to achieve power. Once in power, realize how Hitler’s henchmen
continually ratcheted up their oppression and furthered their agenda.
Architecture: Bike along the imposing architecture of Karl-Marx-Allee before exploring the East Side Gallery
and the Treptower Park Memorial.
Each of these intriguing highlights will
leave a lasting impression.
Victims of the Nazis: Learn not only
about the grim fate of so many persecuted by the Nazis, but also
the hardships that beset ordinary
citizens.
East vs. West: See where checkpoints were located along the former
death strip. Hear about espionage
and escape attempts. Learn about divisions the Wall brought during the
Cold War and how these divisions still
impact Berlin today.
Resistance movements: Gain insight on resistance against the Third
Reich and assassination attempts
on Hitler as we stop at the July 20th
1944 Memorial.
Legacy of the war: Draw the connection from the end of World War I
to Hitler’s rise, and consequently his
fall to the building of the Berlin Wall.

Beneath the surface: Hear about life
in the shadow of the Wall. By showing counterculture in the former
West, blatant propaganda in the
former East, and subtle symbolism
in today’s urban landscape, this
tour shows a completely different
side of Berlin.

GARDENS & PALACES
OF POTSDAM TOUR
Bike through parks and gardens and
along quiet alleyways to magnificent
Prussian palaces and powerful Cold War
sites. Visit inside Cecilienhof!
Urban renewal: Bike the city’s reclaimed land on the old runways at
Tempelhof Field and in the former
death strip along the waterfront.
Sanssouci: Explore the New Palace,
Orangerie, the windmill, gardens,
and Frederick the Great’s famous
Sanssouci Palace.
"Multi-kulti": Multiculturalism’s benefits – and that of the former guest
worker programs – come with integration struggles. See this firsthand
as we ride through Berlin’s Kreuzberg
district, exploring street art, international shops, and quaint cafés along
the way.
Historic center: Ride through Potsdam’s Brandenburg Gate and
through the Dutch quarter. Compare
the quaintness of Potsdam with the
big-city feel of Berlin.
Colliding ambitions: For some,
bare post-Cold War areas mean
appealing public spaces, while for
others this land represents unique
investment opportunities. See where
squatter lifestyle meets a city in transformation, as well as where gentrification has led to explosive rent prices driving out former residents.

of visiting the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial.
Our same great team also brings you City
Segway Tours! Gliding through Berlin on
a Segway is tons of fun and an unforgettable way to see the city.
Fun and easy to use, each tour begins with comprehensive training before we head different directions depending on the tour.
“A Segway tour is simply a fabulous
way to spend a morning. You learn
to ride the Segway very quickly then
head off to see the sights with an excellent, helpful & informative guide.”
Adrian, UK ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Dark history: The Sachsenhausen
Concentration Camp was built in
1936 by Reichsführer Heinrich Himmler as the model concentration
camp. Until 1945, more than 200,000
people were interred there by the
Nazis. After liberation by the Soviets
and Poles in 1945, the Soviets used
the camp themselves until 1950 for
their own prisoners. On our tours we
detail all facets of the camp’s use.
On our Classic City Tour you’ll see all
the main highlights. Our Berlin Wall
Tour delves into the former East’s
neighborhoods to explore what
makes Berlin so unique today.
Dedicated guides: Our professional
guides are passionate about sharing
the tragic history of the camp with
Berlin visitors. This is a tour you won’t
want to miss, with an organization
well worth supporting.

It’s the honor system here so if you get caught without a ticket it’s
an on-the-spot € 40 fine. Ticket checks are the norm, so buy your
ticket; playing clueless tourist usually does not work! Get tickets in
buses and trams, and on the - and -Bahn platforms. Don’t forget
to validate tickets in the little yellow or red boxes near the ticket
vending machines.
Normal fare (Einzelfahrt) is € 2,70 and is valid for up to 2 hours in one
direction in Zones A & B. A day card (Tageskarte) for € 7, may be a
better deal. This is valid until 3am the following day. Better yet, a
group day pass (Kleingruppen), valid for up to 5 people, is € 17,30 in
Zones A & B. Bikes cost an additional € 1,90 per ride in Zones A & B.

BERLIN
FACTS & FIGURES
Here are some interesting facts and figures about Berlin. These are
just some of the many things you’ll hear about during the tour!
PRESENT STATISTICS
The capital of Germany again as of 1999, Berlin is Germany’s largest city with about 3.5 million inhabitants.
Berlin covers 891 km2 (about 556 mi2), making it more than 8 times
the size of Paris.
25
BERLIN
FACTS & FIGURES
DID YOU KNOW?
Hitler brought 7,000 prostitutes to Berlin for the 1936 Summer
Olympics, reminiscent of decadent 1920s Berlin.
The design for the New National Gallery was originally intended
for the Bacardi Rum headquarters in Cuba, but, because of the Cuban Revolution in 1958, ended up in Berlin.
The municipal area has more trees than Paris, more bridges than
Venice, 3 opera houses, 2 zoos, 150 concert halls and theaters and
170+ museums and exhibitions.
The Trabant, the official sedan of East Germany and with a body
largely made of resin-based plastic, was initially designed to be a
three-wheeled motorbike, and could only go 0 – 60 mph (100 kmph)
in 21 seconds.
Until recently there was more construction in Berlin than in any other European city and it trailed only Shanghai and Dubai worldwide.
Berlin’s Tempelhof Airport was once one of the world’s 20 largest
buildings, yet boasted the smallest duty free shop.
The much-delayed new Berlin airport has no opening date set. The
uproar largely cost then-mayor Klaus Wowereit his job, yet he’s still
well-known for calling Berlin “Poor, but sexy.”
BERLINERS AND DAVID HASSELHOFF
DID YOU KNOW?
As flaunted in the tabloids, it was over a 3rd floor balcony railing
from the Hotel Adlon (in Pariser Platz, and seen on the City Tour)
where Michael Jackson dangled his baby to the hysterical crowd.
Berlin residents must pay annual taxes of € 150 to own a dog and
€ 25 to own a hamster.
Kaufhaus Des Westens (KaDeWe) is Europe’s largest department
store.
BERLIN IN THE 20TH CENTURY
The Berlin Airlift lasted from June 1948 to May 1949. More than
275,000 flights were flown carrying more than 2.3 million tons of
supplies! There were 70 British and American casualties.
The Berlin Wall was 155 km (96 miles) long and 3.6 m (11.86 ft) high
with 302 watchtowers. More than 170 people were killed trying to
escape.
In John F. Kennedy’s famous speech regarding the Berlin Wall, he
stated, “Ich bin ein Berliner.” Literally, this translates to “I am a jelly
donut” because a ‘Berliner’ is a type of jelly donut. Grammatically
speaking, he should have said, “Ich bin Berliner,” but hey, he still
got the point across that, “I am [like] a citizen of Berlin.”
Are the locals really in love with David Hasselhoff? Yes. Well, not
really, but at least back when the Wall fell they were. Hasselhoff
played to a crowd of a million strong at what was left of the Berlin
Wall at the Brandenburg Gate on New Year’s Eve in 1989.
His “hit” song, “Looking for Freedom,” was at the top of the West
German charts when the Wall fell, prompting Hasselhoff to say in
an interview, “I find it a bit sad that there is no photo of me hanging on the walls in the Berlin Museum at Checkpoint Charlie.”
DID YOU KNOW?
In November 1923 the hyperinflation after WWI peaked with 1 US$
= 4.2 trillion marks (US$ 1 = 4,200,000,000,000 marks).
Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm I (1713 – 1740) had a fetish for tall
men and a personal army of giant troops. He also spent 80% of tax
revenue building the mighty Prussian army, which his son, Frederick
the Great, used extensively.
Friedrich II banned imported coffee to boost sales of the local alternative: beer.
In 1871, after the unification of Germany, Berlin was the center of
the largest military parade of its history and a special “Commemoration Beer” was served. Although exactly the same as the regular
brew, restaurants charged a few pennies more because of its historical significance.

MUSEUMS
& GALLERIES
Berlin has more than 170 fantastic museums, galleries and exhibitions and it
would take an entire brochure to cover
all of them. We understand that you can’t
see them all, so here are our favorites:
THE BERLIN WALL MEMORIAL 1
Bernauer Strasse 111
467 98 66 66
Open-Air Exhibition: Daily 10am – 8pm Free
The extensive and recently refurbished grounds show a depiction
of what the death strip would have looked like. There are also numerous placards detailing escape attempts, tunneling, and the first
fatality of the Wall. We visit the Memorial on our Evening Food Tour.
WALL MUSEUM AT CHECKPOINT CHARLIE 2
Friedrichstrasse 43–45
253 72 50
Daily 9am – 10pm € 12.50, € 9.50 Students, Kids up to 6 free
Built in 1962 right next to the famous border crossing, it provides
an inspiring tale of the Berlin Wall and innovative escape attempts.
Organization is not this museum’s strongpoint, so focus on the first
half where many escape mechanisms and tactics are displayed.
PERGAMON MUSEUM 3
Museum Island
266 42 42 42
Mo – Su 10am – 6pm, Th 10am – 8pm € 12, € 6 reduced
Many archaeology fans make a journey to Berlin for this museum
alone! It’s normally home to the Pergamon Altar and the Ishtar Gates
from Babylon, as well as countless other priceless relics, but until
2019 varying displays are closed due to renovations!
EASTSIDE GALLERY 4
Mühlenstrasse This free outdoor gallery is the longest stretch of
Berlin Wall still remaining. While the graffiti isn’t ‘original,’ the scenes
do provide a vivid tale of the stark political turmoil surrounding the
Wall. We stop and give you time to explore here on both our “Segway Berlin Wall Tour” and “Berlin Wall & Cold War Bike Tour.”
FAT TIRE BIKE TOURS
27
TOPOGRAPHY OF TERROR 5
Niederkirchnerstrasse 8
25 45 09 50
Daily 10am – 8pm (outside area until dusk)
This is another free gallery directly behind a stretch of remaining
Berlin Wall. This exhibit portrays the prison and interrogation tactics of the Nazi Gestapo. There are free multilingual audio guides
with a picture ID deposit.
GERMAN HISTORICAL MUSEUM 6
Unter den Linden 2
20 30 40
Daily 10am – 6pm, € 8, € 4 reduced
The front museum houses a magnificent portrayal of German history that’s not to be missed. Start with the upper floor that details
German history from its beginnings until WWI. The ground level continues with the rise of the Third Reich, WWII, and present day Germany as part of the EU. The rear museum, designed by I.M. Pei,
houses temporary exhibits usually dealing with 20th Century topics.
NEUES MUSEUM 7
Bodestrasse 1 – 3
266 42 42 42
Mo – Su 10am – 6pm, Th 10am – 8pm € 12, € 6 reduced
After an extensive restoration, this architecturally significant institution on the Museum Island is home not only to Prehistory and
Early History collections, but also the Egyptian collection, including
