» STAMS ABBEY
Situated in prominent location along the Upper Inn Valley, the Baroque Cistercian Abbey at Stams can be
seen from afar. Its centrepiece is the monumental Abbey Church, burial place of the Tyrolean sovereigns.
Its elaborate pulpit and exuberant interior with colourful frescoes, together with its probably most
famous artwork – a unique altarpiece depicting an intricate Tree of Life – make the Basilica the centre
piece of the Tyrol’s cultural heritage. Guided tours of the premises are available all year.
Oct.–May: every Wednesday at 1pm (meeting point at the Abbey shop), or upon prior arrangement.
June–Sep: Mon–Sat, 9am–noon, and 1–5pm, Sun & public holidays 1–5pm.
Basilica opening hours: Mon–Fri 12.30–2pm, Sat–Sun 1–5pm. Restricted access to the Basilica due to
restoration and tuning works on the new Abbey organ from 26 May until 30 August 2015.
