Musings From The Upper Bar — Angela Williams
Inside this issue:
I was thinking of leaving this role. Well,
it was a number of things— probably
the main thing was needing to take care
of my health first—but another consideration was that I felt I was not able to
spend the time required by this position—because like other Board members, I am handling more than one position—the President, Membership Secretary and producer of Das Echo. My
other Board colleagues are also doing
double (or triple) duty—you can see that
from the contact list. The reality is that
our Board is not big enough to do all
that must be done. But you, our memBoard members from left to right (back row): Michael
Poplawski; Rod Kurtz; Angela Williams; John Fear; Mona

It’s Boxing Day as I write this—surrounded by family colleagues, I am feeling better about my
role and am willing to stay on for the
and friends, after having celebrated a very special
2nd year of my term. But….we still
Christmas with 17 for dinner! I reflect upon the last
few months and am thankful for the return of my good need help. We need members to help
us take on some of the Board roles—
health and continued good health of my family. As
you know, I have seriously been considering resign- even if you don’t want to be on the
Board. Things like—producing this

have encouraged me to stay on, and have asked why Echo; or becoming the volunteer coordi-

PROGRAMS UPDATE —Rosi Felsing
As I write this article we have Christmas
approaching and the beginning of the
New Year approaching. I wish everyone
a very Merry Christmas and best wishes
for a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
Since the last Echo we have had our
Christmas Fair which seems to be growing and enjoyed by everyone who attended. The snow of the week didn't hinder the organizing or decorating too
much and so many, many thanks to all
who attended to help with all the work
involved. Wreaths were made and we
had a privilege of a florist in attendance
to teach us how to make some beautiful
centre pieces.
Lunch was great as usual and the enter-
tainment was enjoyed by all who came
out. Let's hope that we can make this
event flourish and grow to really become
a Christmas Market like the ones in Germany.
The next event that was very well attended was the annual Harmony Choir
Christmas Concert. The performance was
wonderful and enjoyed by everyone there.
Our Club Christmas Party was not quite
as well attended, but Santa and his helper
Clowns were enjoyed by everyone who
did attend. Many thanks to the small
group of Choir Members who came out to
help us all with the Christmas Carols and
of course to help Santa find his way to our
event. Again the food was just spectacu-
lar and no one went home hungry.
Our next event will be New Year's
Eve and we are looking forward to
bringing in the New Year with many
friends from the past and some new
ones. So here again I'd like to wish
everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Now into January and February.
These are always the slower months
of the year and hopefully we will be
able to arrange something during
these months just to keep our contact
with everyone over the winter months.
E-mails and phone calls will be made
well in advance of any event we do
prepare, so we hope that everyone
will try to make it out to see old

nator for programs; hausmeister, or whatever role you might like to play. If you want to take
on one of these roles, we will need a monthly report from you—or if you are willing to be on
the Board, we meet as a Board for a few hours each month, and much of our roles are done
after hours or during the day when we have time. We would love to have more of you join us,
even if it’s not as a formal Board member, just to help out and share your ideas and enthusiasm. If you are interested in joining us, please contact any of the Board members for information. In the meantime, I look forward to another year as the President of this great organization and the opportunities 2011 brings. Oh behalf of the Board of Directors, I wish you all a

und Dichter u.a.
Immigrant in Toronto (1952 - 1976). Der Anfang in dieser
ersten Zeitspanne war bestimmt nicht so einfach.
2. " Die Schlacht von Monte Cassino." v. Janusz
Piekalkiewicz. ( Geschichte )
Zwanzig Voelker ringen um einen Berg! 5 Monate ( Jan.-Mai
The VAC band performed in
Vancouver on Sunday Dec.
12th at the Vancouver
Christmas Market which is a
German-style festival similar
to those held in Germany
during the Christmas period. The band played traditional Christmas tunes as
well as a few others -- polka, chicken dance (which went over
very well!) and a tango. The large crowd seemed to really
enjoy the performance, which was almost 2 hours long (1:00
pm - 3:00 pm). Fifteen of the band members travelled to
Vancouver for the event.
Members of the Accordion
club band entertained a
large crowd who attended
the Edelweiss Club Christmas Fair on November
27th.
3. " Beethoven." v. Felix Huch (Geschichtsroman)
Leben geniessen koennten. Recht herzlichen Dank an
