Having crossed one of the most beautiful bays in the world,

Abholung mit dem Reisebus am Kai und Rundfahrt durch die Stadt
Santander, die auf den alten Römerhafen Portus Victorae zurückgeht,
wovon die zahlreichen, auf der Magdalena-Halbinsel gefundenen
archäologischen Reste Zeugnis ablegen. Der Name Santander erscheint
schriftlich erstmals im Jahr 1068 und die Stadtrechte wurden 1187
verliehen. Wir können die prägenden Gebäude der Stadt, wie den Palacio
de la Magdalena und das große Kasino, den Leuchtturm am Cabo Mayor,
die Pereda-Gartenanlagen, die Kathedrale usw. bewundern und einiges
über sie erfahren. Das Mittagessen nehmen wir in einem typischen
Restaurant mit Kellergewölbe „Bodega“ im musealen Stil ein, wo wir
typische Gerichte aus Santander verkosten; ein Ort voller Weinkultur und
Geschichte. Am Nachmittag lassen wir unseren Gästen Zeit für die große
Kunst des „Shopping“. Rückfahrt zum Hafen.

visit of the city of Santander city whose origins date back to the ancient
Roman Portus Voctorae, proof of this are the numerous archaeological
remains that have appeared on the Magdalena Peninsula. There are no
references to Santander until 1068; it then received the title of village in
1187. Its emblematic buildings such as The Palace of the Magdalena,
The Grand Casino, the Cabo Mayor lighthouse, the Pereda Gardens,
the Cathedral…, all offer something to admire and learn about. Lunch
will be served at a typical restaurant – museum, where visitors can feast
on a menu packed with flavours from Santander surrounded by wine
and history. In the afternoon our customers will be left to practice the
great art of shopping. Return to port.

offers a home to hundreds of animal species from five continents that roam in semifreedom and are distributed in large areas where one or several species live together.
More than 20 kilometres of roads cross the park leading to different sites through wonderful
gorges, gentle lakes and eerie rocky figures. Lunch will be served at the park. Next on
the list is Liérganes, a beautiful town which was declared to be of historical interest in
1978, due to its numerous classical works of architecture dating from the seventeenth
and eighteenth centuries, such as its impressive hot springs spa. Liérganes, in addition
to appearing to have stood still in time, is home to one of the most famous legends in
Cantabria "The Legend of the Hombre Pez or Fish Man". Return to port.

Ausgehend von der ursprünglichen Schönheit seiner vom
Karstgestein geprägten Landschaft, wurde dieser Park vom
Menschen auf 750 Hektar eines ehemaligen TagebauBergwerks natürlich angelegt. Der Park beherbergt etwa 100
Tierarten von fünf Kontinenten in Halbfreiheit, verteilt auf
großflächige Gehege, in denen Tiere einer oder
auch mehrerer Arten
zusammenleben. Die über 20 km
lange, den Park
durchquerende Straße
bringt uns zu den
verschiedenen
Gehegen, vorbei an
wunderschönen
Hohlwegen,
friedlichen Seen und die Fantasie
anregenden Felsformationen. Das
Mittagessen nehmen wir im Park ein.
Anschließend besuchen wir das schöne
Dorf Liérganes, das 1978 in die Liste der
Orte von historisch-künstlerischem
Interesse aufgenommen wurde, denn dort
finden wir zahlreiche Bauten mit
klassizistischer Architektur aus dem
17. und 18. Jahrhundert, wie das
beeindruckende Thermalbad. Liérganes
scheint in der Zeit stehen geblieben zu
sein und ist Schauplatz einer der
bekanntesten kantabrischen Sagen: „Die
Legende vom Fischmenschen“.

precious jewels in the cultural crown found in this region:
Santillana del Mar and the caves of Altamira. Santillana del
Mar, about 30 kilometres from Santander, is a living museum
of a medieval village constructed around the collegiate church
of Santa Juliana. The Tower of Don Borja, home to the Santillana
Foundation, was constructed at the end of the fourteenth
century and is one of the finest buildings in Santillana, belonging
to the powerful lineage of The Barreda family and finally the
fourteenth century Merino Tower, which is the oldest building,
and was a fortified residence for Merinos or overseers of
sovereign interests. The neo-cave is a reproduction of the
original cave of Altamira. The visit will be to the main room,
known as the polychrome room and which has come to be
regarded as the "Sistine Chapel of Quaternary Period Art", the
work dates back 14,000 years. The cave of Altamira has been
declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Lunch will be
served in an idyllic Cantabrian country house, restored so that

kantabrischen Westküste mit zwei der wertvollsten
Kulturschätze der Region: Santillana del Mar und die Höhle
von Altamira. Santillana del Mar, etwa 30 Kilometer von
Santander entfernt, ist das lebende Museum einer
mittelalterlichen Stadt. Diese siedelte sich um die Stiftskirche
Colegiata de Santa Juliana herum an, sowie um den gegen
Ende des 14. Jahrhunderts errichteten Don-Borja-Turm eines der edelsten Gebäude von Santillana del Mar, das zum
mächtigen Barreda-Geschlecht gehörte und die Stiftung
Fundación Santillana beherbergt – und schließlich das älteste
Gebäude, den Merino-Turm aus dem 14. Jahrhundert –
befestigter Wohnsitz der Merino-Familie, Verwalter der
herrschaftlichen Interessen. Die „Neocueva“ ist eine
Nachbildung der Originalhöhle von Altamira. Wir besuchen
den „Sala de Policromos” genannten Hauptraum, der als
die „Sixtinische Kapelle der eiszeitlichen Kunst“ gilt. Seine
Malereien wurden vor 14.000 Jahren geschaffen. Die Höhle
von Altamira wurde von der UNESCO zum Welterbe der
Menschheit erklärt. Das Mittagessen wird uns an einem
traumhaften Ort in einem alten kantabrischen Gehöft
serviert, das für den Gastronomiebetrieb in einem
unvergleichlichen Rahmen restauriert wurde. Rückfahrt

Abholung am Hafen und Abfahrt nach Comillas, zweifellos
einer der schönsten und bekanntesten Orte Kantabriens. Die
Stadt wird an ihrer zerklüffteten Küste vom Wasser des Atlantiks
umspült. Die landschaftliche Schönheit beeindruckt alle Sinne,
wie an der von den schneebedeckten Gipfeln der Picos de
Europa umrahmten Ría de la Rabia. Gemeinsam mit dem
katalanischen Modernismus gaben aus Amerika heimgekehrte
Auswanderer Comillas im 19. Jahrhundert eine neue Gestalt.
Die malerische Architektur ist ein gutes Beispiel für den
neogotischen, neoarabischen sowie Neomudejar-Stil.
Bekanntester Sommerurlauber von Comillas war im
19. Jahrhundert König Alfons XII. Im Laufe der Zeit wählten die
unterschiedlichsten Adligen die Stadt als Rückzugsort,
angezogen von ihren herrlichen Stränden, wo die berühmten
Wellenbäder praktiziert wurden. Wir besuchen El Capricho von
Gaudí, den Sobrellano-Palast, die Universidad Pontífica oder
den eindrucksvollen Friedhof, den Luis Doménech und
Montaner unter Einbeziehung der Ruinen der alten Kapelle
umgestalteten. Wir verkosten das typisch kantabrische Gericht
par excellence: den Eintopf „Cocido Montañés“. Anschließend
begeben wir uns nach Bárcena, wo wir durch die
geschichtsträchtigen gepflasterten Gassen mit ihren
Holzbalkonen voller Blumen und dem ständigen Rauschen der
Flüsse Saja und Argoza streifen. Der Weg nach Bárcena Mayor
durch eine unvergleichliche Landschaft vermittelt dem
Reisenden das Gefühl, mehrere Jahrhunderte zurückversetzt
zu werden. Die regelmäßige Anordnung der Straßen, seine
malerischen Häuser und die natürliche Umgebung machen
diesen Ort zu einem der schönsten Kantabriens. Am Nachmittag

Passengers are met at the port and taken to visit Comillas, without doubt one
of the most beautiful and well-known areas in Cantabria. The town bathes in the
waters of the ocean from its rugged coast. The beauty of the landscape is
impressive, for example the area around La Ría de la Rabies estuary, framed by
the snow-capped Picos de Europa. Returning emigrants from America, alongside
Catalan Art Nouveau, transformed Comillas during the nineteenth century. Its
picturesque architecture is a good example of neo-Gothic, neo-Arab, and neoMudejar styles. Some of Comillas most illustrious summers took place during the
nineteenth century when it became the summer residence of King Alfonso XII.
Over time, a diverse range of nobility chose the town as a somewhere to relax,
attracted by its beautiful beaches where the famous sea bathing was practiced.
Visit the famous Capricho de Gaudi, The Sobrellano Palace, the Pontifical University
or the impressive cemetery that Luis Domenech y Montaner refurbished standing
on the ruins of a Gothic church. After a morning of culture, the venue for lunch
is the town of Correpoco in the Cabuérniga valley, neighbouring the incredible
enclave occupied by Barcena Mayor. Here visitors will have the opportunity to
try the quintessential Cocido Montañés (mountain stew). The next stop will be
Barcena for a stroll through its cobbled streets filled with history, flowery wooden
balconies and the constant gurgle of the Argoza and Saja rivers. A trip through
some spectacular sites will bring us to Bárcena Mayor where the traveller gets
the sensation of having travelled back several centuries. The neatly laid out streets,
the picturesque houses and the landscape, make the place one of the most
beautiful corners of Cantabria. Return to port in the afternoon.
Trip to Santoña, one of the oldest and most authentic seafaring
towns in Cantabria. Located to the east, on the left bank of the Asón
river mouth at the foot of the imposing Mount Buciero next to the
wetland plains that form the Marshland Nature Reserve; Santoña,
the home of the anchovy, offers what are for many, the best olivepacked and salt-packed anchovies in the world. At sunset small
fish rise to the surface in large banks, illuminating the sea and
revealing their position. The sea is said to be ablaze at this time,
inviting the boats to cast their nets. The visit is to one of the best
anchovy factories and to get a taste of this heavenly bite. Journey
on then to the coastal town of Castro on the eastern tip of Cantabria
where we can admire the church of St. Mary of the Assumption, a
catholic church built in the Gothic style in the early thirteenth century,
located opposite the Bay of Biscay, next to the castle-lighthouse
and the fishing port. Lunch will consist of a selection of grilled meats
and typical stews. Return to port in the afternoon.

Schwärmen an die Oberfläche und verleihen dem Meer das Leuchten, das ihren Standort
verrät. Man sagt, „das Meer brennt“ um diese Zeit und lädt die Fischerboote zum
Auswerfen ihrer Netze ein. Besuch einer der besten Fabriken dieses so geschätzten
Fisches und Verkostung. Weiterfahrt zum Küstenort Castro Urdiales an der
Ostgrenze Kantabriens, wo wir die katholische Kirche Santa María de la
Asunción, zu Beginn des 13. Jahrhunderts im gotischen Stil erbaut,
bewundern. Sie befindet sich neben dem Schloss mit Leuchtturm und
dem Fischereihafen am kantabrischen Meer. Das Mittagessen nehmen
wir in einem auf Fleischgerichte und typische Eintopfgerichte

world-famous Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
This building by the American architect Frank O.
Gehry is a shining example of twentieth century
avant-garde architecture. The building itself
represents a milestone in architectural innovative
and design and is a seductive backdrop for its
contemporary art exhibition. The permanent
collection at the Guggenheim Museum is made
up of works belonging to the Solomon R. Guggenheim
Foundation, which includes collections from the
Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Peggy
Guggenheim Collection in Venice, as well as works acquired by the Deutsche Guggenheim
in Berlin through its commissioning programme, and the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum
collection. These collections provide a complete picture of the visual arts of the twentieth
century. Passengers will then transfer to a typical sidrería (a combination between a
cider house and a steakhouse) for a hearty traditional meal, based on good meat and
of course, cider. Return to the port of Santander in the afternoon.
