Also joining the tem is Ericka, a seasoned

So whatever your mood is, stop in and see

It’s more fun to talk to your cab driver at

motorcycles are sold to women, a 20
percent increase since 2003.
A 49 year-old, payroll manager for an
oil company, Gail recalled her first
encounter with motorcycle riders 5
years ago. "I was surprised that that the
majority of the riders were middle-aged
SINGLES ENTERTAINMENT AND MOTORCYCLE RIDER NEWS
These women are chance-takers, selfstarters and independent thinkers,
empowered to do a lot of different
things that perhaps their mothers might
not have thought of doing in the past.
Motorcycling fits into that category.
Gail now owns and rides her own
bike, although at first she admits a little
healthy fear. "First, I took a motorcycle
safety class through Abate. Then I practiced for 6 weeks in the parking lot with
my 2003 Sporster. Once I hit the open
road, my addiction to riding grew."
Big Dog Chopper. The big rear tire and
big motor were a bit intimidating at
first, but she knew it was the challenge
she needed. Now, Gail has two Big
Dogs, recently adding the 2008 Mutt to
Julie, a 46 year-old administrative
assistant
Gail, a 49 year-old, payroll manager
for an oil company
with long-lasting careers. Many of them
even owned their own successful businesses. It wasn't the image of the motorcycle people we all grew up with."
Today's female motorcyclists aren't
your stereotypical, grungy, immoral
biker chicks, barely able to keep a job
or their bike on the road. Not so much.
An average rider is in her mid-forties,
college-educated, well-employed, and
self-sufficient, earning $50,000 or more.
Shauna, 36, got her 1st bike for an
anniversary present from her husband.
Just 2 ½ months later, Gail traded up
to a 2001 Big Dog Pro Sport, tested it at
Bandimere with an elapsed time of 12
seconds in the quarter mile, put 30,000
miles on it, and traded it for a new 2006
her collection.
Shauna, now 36, got into riding when
her husband bought her a bike for their
10-year-anniversary. She traded that
Sportster for a Low Rider, and then she
lucked out and won a Custom in a contest. "I sometimes get male riders that
think because I'm a woman I might be
intimidated by speed, but no way! I'll
just look at them and say, 'Let's hit it
and see.' I still ride the Low Rider, but
the speed from the Custom is so much
more fun."
MOTORCYCLERIDERNEWS.COM
Shauna also took a motorcycle safety
class and highly recommends it for the
learning, but also because of the forged
friendships. "I met new friends during
that class that to this day are like my
family."
One of these is Julie, a 46 year-old
administrative assistant, and she agreed
with Shauna. "Some of the best people
I've ever known I met from riding.
That's probably not why I ride, but it is
why I continue to ride."
Julie continued, "Even though we
have lost some really amazing people in
senseless, tragic accidents, riding is
something you have to love. Otherwise
you wouldn't do it. For me, every time I
get on my bike I'm a nervous wreck, but
once I'm on and riding the open road, it
all goes away."
Most women know the risks involved
with riding, but without risk, there is no
reward. And for women bikers that are
passionate about the ride, there's nothing like two wheels on the pavement
and the wind in your face.

Biker-Friendly Best Westerns
By Diana Rowe
Nothing is worse than going on a de-stressing, wind-in-your-hair road trip, only to get
stressed about finding biker-friendly hotels to
park your bike and park it safely! And what
about all that bug juice that sticks to your
bike?
Well, welcome to more than 1,000 "riderfriendly" Best Westerns across the U.S. and
Canada. These "rider-friendly" Best Westerns
offer designated parking, wash stations and
wipe-down towels, at no extra cost. Some
properties even offer designated parking, tar
remover, sunscreen and lip balm, but if you're
lost, there's no mention of a map.
Earlier this year, Best Western and the
Harley-Davidson Motor Company agreed to
bring travel benefits to Harley Davidson enthusiasts. This commitment is part of a multi-year
agreement between Best Western and the
Harley-Davidson Motor Company to bring
travel benefits to Harley-Davidson enthusiasts.
As a complement to Ride Rewards, Best
Western will also serve as a preferred hotel
chain for Harley-Davidson's interactive Web
application 'Ride Planner', found at
www.harley-davidson.com/experience. Using
newfangled technology, the application maps
out a variety of picturesque U.S. "Great
Roads" and shows Best Western hotels and
Harley-Davidson® dealerships along the way.
Each property listing features hotel descriptions along with a directory of services and
amenities. A 10 percent savings is available to
customers who book their Best Western reservations through this Web site, or by calling 1888-224-BIKE.
These "rider-friendly" properties offer up
these benefits to all bikers, all makes and models of bikes - not just Harleys. You will also be
able to register for the Gold Crown Club
International Ride Rewards loyalty program, a
free, themed rewards program created for ALL
bikers. You earn 10 points for every US$1
spent on qualifying room rates. For more information on the Ride Rewards™ program, or to
search for Best Western's "rider-friendly"
hotels, visit www.bwrider.com or www.harleydavidson.com/experience.
NOTE FROM YOUR EDITOR:
I was lucky enough to enjoy two of these "rider
friendly" Best Westerns in Phoenix last summer, when this agreement was being put
together. I can highly recommend both!

RIDING BY THE STARS
By Mary O'Gara, Ph.D.
Aries: Passion and parties keep
your motor racing this month. It's
time to play. At least until August
5th, when the bills start coming in
and work may drag you away
from the fun.
Taurus: This is the month to get
your family involved in riding.
Ride with the family, maybe plan
some longer trips or invest in better bikes before the summer is
over. After the ride, friend and
good conversation come to your
house.
Gemini: You're in the mood for
fun, and for Gemini's this month,
fun means interesting places to go.
Ride a new route or do a little
shopping while you're out. Meet
new friends and focus on short,
frequent trips.
Cancer: Your mind's working
overtime now, and you've got a lot
on your mind until July 26. (And
after July 26, you'll be working on
budgets or focusing on health.)
Shake out the cobwebs with a
long ride or get out of town with
friends and family for a planning
session.
Leo: Leo's just want to have fun
this month. Music, dancing, parties-long romantic rides. No spectator sports for Leo's this month.
You're ready to stretch your capacity for play, and it's time to make
new friends.
Virgo: Solitary riding suits your
mood this month, and you may
need long rides to work off frustrations. Delays (in time, money
or parts) that kept you from making changes you wanted to make
are now behind you, and life will
get significantly easier after

Libra: You've been preoccupied,
but innovative ideas and renewed
motivation are solving problems at
work and giving you more time to
ride. By mid-August, your energy
will be back at full-throttle, so
plan now for a long road trip after
August 19th.
Scorpio: Financial changes are
unavoidable-but getting out for a
long ride is the best way to clear
your mind. Network with other
bikers now and your problems
will turn into opportunities by the
end of the year.
Sagittarius: Sure, your life's
changing-but you just need to get
out and play. Money's good.
Business is good. Get on the bike
and take a long trip. Explore
ancient cultures or back roads
you've never seen.

22nd Annual Ladies Run Of Colorado
Not just for ladies – The guys had a good time too
The Ladies Run of Colorado is the oldest run in
the country organized & promoted solely by
women, and July 12-13 was their 22nd annual
event.
Cindy Summey, treasurer and assistant event
coordinator, reports another fabulous year.
“We’re stilling tallying up the numbers, but we’re
estimating 700-800 guys and gals joined us for
yet another run up the hill.”
The Ladies Run of Colorado has evolved from
a simple run up the hill for one weekend with one
day of a couple of events and a dance. Over the
years, it has evolved into a major event even
adding Treasure Hunt, Poker Run, Field Events,
Tattoo Competition, Ride-in Bike Show, right on
to fashion shows and the Pit Run game on
Sunday.
This major event now sponsors four charities.
This year, Summey is happy to report that donations were made to each charity: Hope House of
Colorado, Project Safeguard, South Park Relief
Fund and Reality for Children. “Each of these
four charities will receive a $1,000 donation on
behalf of The Ladies Run. We’re even helping
HepC Foundation just because we can.”

Around Town
Ever wanted to get to know your bartender or cocktail waitress? Here is
your chance to meet some of the people on the other side of the bar.
Join us each month as we travel to different bars around town.
SPURS — 14011 W. QUINCY AVE.
JAKE’S ROADHOUSE — 5980 LAMAR ST.
This young lady is new at the bar business, but what she lacks in
experience, she makes up for in personality. Katie likes going to
concerts, riding bitch and bad boys with tattoos. She really likes
her job because she gets to hear a lot of stories.
Haley may be a fill-in bartender but she's full of personality and
will keep you smiling the entire time you're here. She likes to live
life to the extreme. Her favorite things to do are drink Coors Beer
and ride on a Harley
BUSHWACKER — 1967 BROADWAY
THE DIVE BAR — 11810 W. COLFAX
Caiti is one of those bartenders that you'll never forget. She has a
constant smile and looks at everything with a positive attitude.
Order her speciality -- the best Kamikazi! She recently bought
her own motorcycle and enjoys riding.
Annette is a seasoned veteran who knows how to make you feel like
you're not a stranger when you stop in for a drink. Her favorites include
Coors Light, riding motorcycles and rock 'n roll music
Y-KNOT LOUNGE — 6331 NO. WASHINGTON
Nina really enjoys shooting pool, but when she's not, she does her
job well and tends bar. Stop by and try her speciality, "snappy
alligator." She loves her customers at the Y-Knot because everybody who stops by wants to have a good time.
THE BALLOON INN — 6440 WADSWORTH
Sandy is a familiar face because she's worked there for over a year
and a half. When off-bar-duty, she enjoys camping, going to the
races and motorcycling riding. Her drink is Tequila and beer. Stop
and and she'll make you her favorite shot: "The Screamer."
