Mit 2012 geht für uns ein äußerst positives
Jahr zu Ende. Bald stehen wir an der Schwelle
des Jahres 2013 und damit am Beginn der Eröffnung der Turniersaison. Auch im neuen Jahr
steht Son Gual allen Mitgliedern, Kunden und
Freunden unseres Golfplatzes offen, die seit Jahren eine große Familie bilden. Um unsere hohen
Qualitätsstandards zu wahren, auf die wir von
Anfang an gesetzt haben, werden wir im neuen
Jahr weiterhin mit Engagement und Begeisterung an der Umsetzung unserer Ziele arbeiten.
Die Eröffnung unseres neuen Son Gual Trainingscenters stellt zweifelsohne einen der Höhepunkte der neuen Saison dar. Anfänger können hier
das Golfspiel von der Pike auf erlernen, erfahrene
Golfer ihre Spieltechnik verbessern. Wir werden
Anzahl und Niveau der Turniere und Events
erhöhen sowie die Kooperation mit den Golfplätzen vertiefen, die als neue Mitglieder der The
Leading Golf Courses of Europe aufgenommen
worden sind. Son Gual ist ein bedeutendes Mitglied dieser Qualitäts- und Wertegemeinschaft,
die über die Einhaltung strikter Standards auf
den besten europäischen Golfplätzen wacht. Zum
Abschluss dieses Ausblicks bleibt mir nur noch,
Ihnen allen ein glückliches Neues Jahr zu wünschen. Ich hoffe, Sie bald auf Son Gual begrüßen
zu können und freue mich auf ein Wiedersehen.
Despedimos 2012, un año que ha sido
francamente positivo para nosotros, y sin
darnos casi cuenta ya nos encontramos en
2013, iniciando la temporada de torneos y
abriendo las puertas a todos los miembros,
clientes y amigos que forman la gran familia
de Son Gual desde hace años.
El entusiasmo y los planes siguen in crescendo, con el objetivo de mantener los niveles
de excelencia que nos hemos marcado desde
el principio. La inauguración del nuevo Son
Gual Training Center va a ser una de las cumbres de la temporada, dirigido a todos aquellas personas que quieran aprender a jugar al
golf con total garantía, así como para jugadores de nivel avanzado que quieran seguir
mejorando su técnica.
También la celebración de torneos y eventos
siguen creciendo tanto en cantidad como en
calidad este año. Como también se ensanchan los lazos de colaboración con los nuevos campos que entran a formar parte de
The Leading Golf Courses of Europe, entidad
que vela por la calidad de los mejores campos del continente y de la que Son Gual es un
destacado miembro.
No me resta más que desearles un feliz año,
esperando verles a todos muy pronto por
Son Gual.
We bid farewell to 2012, a year that has
been positive for us, and almost before we
realise it we are in 2013, beginning the tournament season and opening up our doors to
all the members, clients and friends who have
made up the big Son Gual family for years
now.
Enthusiasm and plans continue, with the
aim of maintaining the levels of excellence
we have set ourselves from the beginning.
The inauguration of the new Son Gual Training Center will be one of the high points of
the season, aimed at everyone who wishes
to start playing golf and also for advanced
players who would like to carry on improving their technique.
The tournaments and events held this year
continue to increase, too, in both quantity
and quality. At the same time we are expanding our cooperation with the new courses
that are part of The Leading Golf Courses of
Europe, an institution which safeguards the
quality of the best courses on the continent
and one Son Gual is a prominent member.
All that remains is for me to wish everyone a
Happy New Year, and I hope to see you all at

Courses“-Partner zu diesem Event ein.

On 8th, 9th and 10th October the “2nd Connecting Golf Travel in Mallorca” took
place. The Leading Golf Courses of Spain,
in conjunction with its two members in the
Balearics, Son Gual Golf and Golf de Alcanada, and its two 5* partners Hilton Sa Torre
Mallorca and Son Julia Country House Hotel,
invited all the partners of The Leading Golf
Courses to this event.

In einem Workshop tauschten die Teilnehmer
interessante Ideen und Erfahrungen um die
Qualitätsstandards und den besten Service
für die Mitglieder der „Leading Golf Courses“
aus. Darüber hinaus wurden Vorschläge und
Initiativen zur Vertiefung der Beziehungen
zwischen den Mitgliedern der einzelnen Länder debattiert. So soll der Spieleraustausch
zwischen den Clubs gefördert werden, immer
mit Blick auf Qualität und Exklusivität der Serviceleistungen – versteht sich.
Durch das gute Wetter konnten die Anwesenden die großartigen Anlagen des Golfclubs Son
Gual so richtig genießen. Auf dem dreitägigen
Meeting wurde der Golfclub Bonmont (Costa
Brava) als neues Mitglied der „The Leading Golf
Courses of Spain“ willkommen geheißen.

Un joven campeón del mundo
Mit nur knapp zehn Jahren gewann Laurids
Lohr die Oceanico World Kids Golf Championship an der portugiesischen Algarve und
avancierte zu einem der jüngsten Weltmeister im Golfsport. Diese Meisterleistung hat
er in diesem Jahr gleich noch einmal fertiggebracht. Das Son Gual Magazin hat den jungen Champion bei einem seiner Trainings
auf dem Golfplatz Son Gual interviewt, wo er
regelmäßig seine Technik verbessert.
Sie waren ein eher frühreifer Golfspieler...
Als ich zwei Jahre alt war, war ich mit meiner
Mutter und meinem Opa im Urlaub und habe
mich furchtbar gelangweilt. Das einzige, was
man dort tun konnte, war Golf zu spielen.
Eines Tages drückten sie mir einen Schläger in die Hand und zu ihrer Überraschung
schlug ich alle Golfbälle.
Und damit fing alles an?

world champions when he won the
Oceanico World Kids Golf Championship in the Algarve in Portugal. A feat
he repeated in 2012. We interviewed
him during his training at Son Gual,
where he comes regularly to improve
his technique.
You were a truly precocious player.
When I was 2, on holiday with my mother
and my grandfather, I got bored where we
were staying; all you could do was play
golf. One day they gave me a huge club
and my relatives were surprised to see that
I hit all the balls...
And that was how it all began.
Yes, I started to become a real fan. By the

Usted fue un jugador realmente precoz.
Con 2 años de edad, durante unas vacaciones
con mi madre y con mi abuelo, allí donde estábamos me aburría, lo único que se podía hacer
era jugar al golf. Un día me dieron un palo
enorme, y para su sorpresa, mis familiares se
dieron cuenta de que daba a todas las bolas...
Y a partir de ahí empezó todo.
Sí, empecé a aficionarme de verdad. Con 5

Mit fünf Jahren war ich in Deutschland der
jüngste Golfspieler mit einem Handicap, 2005
gewann ich mein erstes Turnier. Danach
kamen weitere, auf denen ich auch gegen
Erwachsene antrat. Manche beschwerten sich
darüber, dass Kinder am Turnier teilnahmen,
offenbar verloren sie nicht gern.
Sie als Weltmeister trainieren auf Son Gual.
Ich lebe mit meinen Eltern in Leipzig, aber wir
kommen vier oder fünf Mal im Jahr nach Mallorca, um auf Son Gual zu trainieren. Acht Stunden
täglich. Der Golfplatz ist Spitze, es gefällt mir, hier
zu spielen. Ich mag die schwierigen Hindernisse,
die wunderschönen Greens, die Natur ringsum.
Wie definieren Sie sich als Spieler?
Sehr emotional, mit einem ziemlich guten
Kurzspiel.
Was machen Sie außerhalb des Golfens gern?
Fußball oder Tennis spielen. Und Fernsehen
gucken, die Dinge halt, die Jungen in meinem
Alter gern tun.

others, and I even competed against adults.

I live with my parents in Leipzig, but we
travel to Mallorca four or five times a year
and train at Son Gual, about eight hours a
day. It’s a spectacular course, I love playing
here, with its complications and its beautiful
greens, the vegetation...
How do you define yourself as a player?
Very emotional, with quite a good short
game.
And what else do you like doing when you
aren’t playing golf?
Playing football, tennis, watching TV... the
things any boy of my age likes.

bellos greens, la vegetación....
¿Cómo se define como jugador?
Muy emocional, con un juego corto bastante bueno.
¿Y qué otras cosas le gusta hacer cuando
no está jugando al golf?
Jugar al fútbol, al tenis, ver la televisión... las cosas que le gustan a cualquier
chico de mi edad.

Man spielt auf dem besten Platz der Insel und
das Preis- Leistungsverhältnis ist hervorragend. Sowohl die gesamte Anlage als auch der
Service sind nicht zu toppen.
Was gefällt Ihnen am meisten?
Das kann ich gar nicht so einfach sagen, alles
ist einfach toll! Ich sitze gern auf der Terrasse
bei einem kühlen Bier und schaue den Spielern
an Loch 18 zu.
Welches Spielgefühl haben Sie auf dem
Platz?
Ich schätze mich glücklich, auf diesem phantastischen Court zu spielen. Das Spiel ist
eine Herausforderung, es gibt einige sehr
anspruchsvolle Hindernisse!
Welche Vorteile hat eine Mitgliedschaft im
Golfclub Son Gual?
Zum einen das Prestige des besten Golfplatzes der Insel. Zum anderen die herzliche
Betreuung durch das Personal. Meine Familie
fühlt sich so wohl und willkommen hier, dass
wir uns am Loch Nummer 7 schon richtig
zuhause fühlen.
Hat es Vorteile, dass der Club sich auf
Mallorca befindet? Was halten Sie von
der Insel?
Mallorca ist ein wunderschönes Eiland,
das von den meisten europäischen Städten
aus zudem gut erreichbar ist. So kann ich
schnell dem kalten, englischen Winter entfliehen und stehe in drei Stunden am ersten
Tee auf Son Gual.

Why would you recommend becoming a
member of Son Gual?
Membership at Son Gual represents great
value for money as you play on the best
course on the island. Also the quality of the
facilities and brilliant service are second
to none.
What do you like best of the whole facility?
It is almost impossible to single out any
particular facility, because everything is
so good!... I do enjoy sitting on the terrace
drinking a cold beer and watching golfers
coming up the 18th hole.
With regard to the course, what do you feel
when you play on it?
I always feel lucky to be playing on such
a great golf course, and also keen to keep

island, and the warm reception from all the
staff is fantastic. My family enjoy Son Gual
so much and feel so welcome that we built a

What do you think of the fact that the club
is on Mallorca, and what is your opinion of
the island?
Mallorca is a beautiful island and is easily
accessible from most places in Europe. Within
three hours I can escape the cold English Winter and be on the first tee at Son Gual.

Ser socio de Son Gual tiene una relación calidad-precio muy buena, porque se juega en el
mejor campo de la isla. Y además, la calidad de
las instalaciones y del servicio es insuperable.
¿Qué es lo que más le gusta de todas las
instalaciones?
Es casi imposible señalar una instalación en
particular, porque todo está muy bien... Disfruto de sentarme en la terraza, mientras bebo
una cerveza fría y veo a los jugadores pasar
por el hoyo 18.
En cuanto al campo, ¿qué es lo que siente
cuando juega en él?
Siempre me siento afortunado por estar jugando en un campo tan maravilloso, y también con
ganas de mantener la pelota en juego porque
¡hay unos obstáculos imponentes!
¿Cuáles son los beneficios de ser socio de
Son Gual?
Sin duda es el mejor campo de la isla, y la
cálida recepción que ofrece todo el personal
es fantástica. Mi familia disfruta tanto de Son
Gual, y nos sentimos tan bienvenidos, que
construimos una casa en el tee del hoyo nº 7.
¿Qué opina del hecho de que el club se
encuentre en Mallorca, y cuál es su opinión
de la isla?
Mallorca es una isla preciosa y fácilmente
accesible desde la mayoría de las ciudades
europeas. Puedo escaparme del frío invierno
inglés y estar en el primer tee de Son Gual en
tres horas.

Wie war Ihr erster Eindruck von Son Gual,
vom Rasen, den Greens, dem Court im Allgemeinen?
Äußerst positiv. Ich dachte: ‘Das ist eindeutig
das Werk von Personen, die genau wissen, was
man von einem Golfresort der Spitzenklasse
erwartet.’
Son Gual zählt zu den besten Courts Europas. Was kann auf dem Platz noch verbessert werden?
Man muss stets daran arbeiten, die jeweils
aktuellen Schwachstellen zu verbessern und
die Messlatte jedes Jahr höher anlegen. Das ist
wichtig, denn Sie können sicher sein, dass die
Konkurrenz genau dies tut. Stillstand bedeutet
immer Rückschritt.
Worin besteht Ihre Arbeit auf Son Gual?
Meine Aufgabe ist es, das Personal für die
Greens zu beraten und anzuleiten, um höchstmögliche Effektivität zu erzielen, sowohl bei
der Qualität des Rasens, als auch bei den
Arbeitsmethoden.
Welche Asse hat Son Gual vorzuweisen?
Zweifelsohne die Qualität des Produktes, vom
Design des Golfplatzes bis hin zum Ambiente
im Clubhaus und im Restaurant.
Was macht Ihrer Meinung nach den perfekten Golfplatz aus?
Erstens, die Details. Und zweitens Spielflächen
mit einheitlich hohen Qualitätsstandards auf
dem gesamten Court, vom ersten Tee bis zum
Green Nummer 18.

What was your first impression of Son
Gual, and what did you think of the grass,
the greens, the course in general?
My first impression was very positive. I
remember thinking this is clearly the work of
someone who knows exactly what they themselves expect from a first-class golf resort.
As a golf course that is already one of the
best in Europe, how – that is, in what areas
- could Son Gual improve the course?
It is important to constantly improve whatever your ‘weakest link’ currently is and to
raise the bar each year, because you can
guarantee the competition is doing the
same. Standing still is moving backwards.
What specifically does your work at Son
Gual consist of?
Basically it is my job to assist and guide the
Green staff to be as effective as possible, be
that in quality of turf or the methodology
they are employing to do specific jobs.
What are Son Gual’s strongest characteristics?
Undoubtedly quality of product, from course
design all the way through to the ambience
of the clubhouse and restaurant.
In your opinion, what makes a “perfect
course”?
First, attention to detail. And second, the uniformity of quality playing surfaces throughout the entire golf course – from 1st tee to
18th green.

Mi primera impresión fue muy positiva. Me
acuerdo que pensé: esto es claramente la
obra de alguien que sabe exactamente lo que

mejorar su campo?
Es importante mejorar constantemente el que
sea el ‘eslabón más débil’ actual y subir el listón cada año, porque puedes estar bien seguro
que la competencia está haciendo lo mismo.
Quedarse quietos equivale a retroceder.
¿En qué consiste exactamente su trabajo
en Son Gual?
Básicamente mi función es la de asistir y
guiar al personal de green para que sean lo
más eficaces posible, sea en calidad de césped o la metodología que emplean para desempeñar determinadas tareas.
¿Cuáles son las características más fuertes
de Son Gual?
Sin duda la calidad del producto, desde
el diseño del campo hasta el ambiente del
clubhouse y el restaurante.
En su opinión, ¿qué es lo que hace un
“campo de golf perfecto”?
Primero, la atención al detalle. Y segundo, la
uniformidad de superficies de juego de calidad por todo el campo, desde el primer tee
hasta el green nº 18.

Im Falle des Golfplatzes Son Gual fällt den
Spielern neben vielen anderen Merkmalen
vor allem eines ins Auge: die Länge des
Sandbunkers zwischen den Löchern 2 und
3 – eine anspruchsvolle Herausforderung.
Sage und schreibe 150 Meter muss der
Golfball fliegen, um dieses Hindernis zu
überwinden, während sich der Spieler die

Aside from their quality and the tournaments held on them, the biggest golf
courses on the circuit usually have certain aspects – curious features or characteristics – that make them truly special.
In the case of Son Gual, amongst other interesting aspects, players’ attention is seized by
the length of the sand bunker which looms up
like a dark cloud between holes 2 and 3 of the
course. One hundred and fifty metres, no more
and no less, over which the ball flies as players
cross their fingers in the hope of avoiding the
huge obstacle. An authentic spectacle.

Die Geschäftsleitung des Golfplatzes Son Gual hat kürzlich eine Vereinbarung zum Erwerb von Mantys unterzeichnet. Das E-Mobil wurde speziell für den Einsatz auf
dem Golfplatz entwickelt und erlaubt es dem Spieler, sich
bequem über den Platz zu bewegen und mühelos Schläger
und Zubehör zu transportieren. Der Manty macht derzeit
Furore auf den renommierten internationalen Golfplätzen.
Der Elektro-Caddy hat ein Gewicht von ca. 50 Kilogramm,
eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 16 Stundenkilometern
und eine Streckenreichweite von 27 Löchern, das sind

Golf Son Gual recently signed an agreement to acquire a series of Mantys - new,
revolutionary electric vehicles that enable
you to move around the course carrying your
clubs in a convenient, fun way.
Mantys, which is causing a sensation on the
main golf courses around the world, weighs
approximately 50 kilos, has a top speed of 16
kilometres an hour and a enough range for a
27-hole course, around 18 kilometres. As well as
