SDIFF feStivale Preview Party
Al Fresco dining and a movie, anyone?
Italian. Great taste in cinema and food.
To kick off the San Diego Italian Film Festival's fall season and feStivale, UCSD Faculty Club will be hosting a
special reception for Faculty Club and SDIFF members Saturday, September 21st at 6 PM. A showing of the
Italian classic Il postino (Michael Radford, 1994) will follow, anticipating the fall arrival of SDIFF guest
Maria Grazia Cucinotta, Il postino's leading actress.
Il postino is the story of Mario, the mailman of Procida, his friendship with Pablo Neruda, recently arrived as an
exile from Chile, and the beautiful Beatrice. With a phenomenal cast, including not just Ms. Cucinotta but Philippe
Noiret and the legendary Neapolitan comic Massimo Troisi, Il postino is an exquisite meditation on the poetry of
everyday life, by turns comical and poignant, shot on location and featuring an unforgettable score. It has become
one of “those” Italian films, the ones you must watch at least once and are happy to see again.
Maria Grazia Cucinotta is a Sicilian actress and film producer. Her role in Il postino brought her international
attention and acclaim; now, as actress and producer, she has amazed critics with films like Viola di mare, which
SDIFF will screen this October as part of feStivale. SDIFF will have the honor of hosting Ms. Cucinotta
October 25th and 26th.
UCSD Faculty Club and SDIFF members will enjoy more than just the film, however. The evening begins at 6pm
with a no-host bar and a superb selection of hot and cold antipasti and pastas. The movie will be shown at 7:45pm
where the SDIFF will preview the October feStivale upcoming events.
