Betrifft:
Mögliche Loslösung von rotierenden und feststehenden Triebwerksbauteilen aufgrund einer Montage
der Teile mit einem zu geringen Schraubenanzugsmoment.
Maßnahmen:
Detaillierte Informationen über die durchzuführenden Maßnahmen sind der englischsprachigen Ausgabe
dieser Lufttüchtigkeitsanweisung und der genannten technischen Mitteilung der Firma Lufthansa
A.E.R.O. zu entnehmen.
Alle erforderlichen Maßnahmen zur Abstellung des technischen Mangels müssen ordnungsgemäß,
vollständig und innerhalb der vorgesehen Fristen auf Basis der genannten Bezugsdokumente durchgeführt werden. Alle Abweichungen von den Maßnahmen und Fristen dieser Lufttüchtigkeitsanweisung
bedürfen der vorherigen Zustimmung durch das Luftfahrt-Bundesamt.
Fristen:
Alle anzuwendenden Fristen sind der englischsprachigen Ausgabe dieser Lufttüchtigkeitsanweisung
zu entnehmen.
Die Laufzeit aller anzuwendenden Fristen beginnt mit dem Datum der Inkraftsetzung der englischsprachigen Ausgabe dieser Lufttüchtigkeitsanweisung.
Durch die vorgenannten Mängel ist die Lufttüchtigkeit des Luftfahrtgerätes derart beeinträchtigt, daß es nach Ablauf der genannten Fristen
nur in Betrieb genommen werden darf, wenn die angeordneten Maßnahmen ordnungsgemäß durchgeführt worden sind. Im Interesse der
Sicherheit des Luftverkehrs, das in diesem Fall das Interesse des Adressaten am Aufschub der angeordneten Maßnahmen überwiegt, ist es
erforderlich, die sofortige Vollziehung dieser LTA anzuordnen.
Rechtsbehelfsbelehrung:
Gegen diese Verfügung kann innerhalb eines Monats nach Bekanntgabe Widerspruch eingelegt werden. Der Widerspruch ist schriftlich oder
zur Niederschrift beim Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, Hermann-Blenk-Str. 26, 38108 Braunschweig einzulegen.

Subject:
Inspection of the LPT rotor and LPT flange/splitline for correct installation because of faulty maintenance.
Reason:
In February 2006 Lufthansa A.E.R.O. detected a malfunctioning torque wrench during routine tool calibration. The
deviation of the malfunctioning torque wrench was 38% below the target value (e.g. at a target of 40 lb.in. the actual torque value was 24.8 lb.in). The respective torque wrench was last calibrated in February 2005. By review of
all internal work orders since February 2005 Lufthansa A.E.R.O. identified six engines on which this torque wrench
was used for final assembly. On three engines the torque wrench was used for assembling rotating LPT hardware,
and on the other three engines for stationary LPT hardware.
We are issuing this AD to prevent uncontained turbine wheel failure, leading to damage of the airplane and total
loss of engine power.
Action:
This airworthiness directive requires the following actions:
For engine serial numbers 872579, 807566 and 807346C:

Completely disassemble LPT Stg. 3/4 , Stg. 4/5 , Stg. 5/6 and LPT rear shaft to drive cone
Scrap all fasteners used at locations LPT Stg. 3/4 , Stg. 4/5 , Stg. 5/6 and LPT rear shaft to drive cone
Scrap S45 interstage seal
Inspect all parts involved with flange locations LPT Stg. 3/4 , Stg. 4/5 , Stg. 5/6 and LPT rear shaft to drive cone
per engine manual
Pay special attention to drive cone for flange/hole wear and bolt contact
Replace fasteners and rebuild LPT
For engine serial numbers 872334 and 873070:
Locations LPT flange to transition assembly, LPT splitline and bearing housing #7:
At the next scheduled letter check or scheduled or unscheduled shop visit, perform the following procedure for
each bolt/nut location
- Remove one bolt and associated nut (if applicable)
- Clean the bolt and nut
- Apply any required lubricant per engine shop manual
- Reinstall the bolt and nut in the same location and torque per engine shop manual
- Repeat this procedure for each bolt and nut one at a time until all locations are complete
Location bearing housing #6:
At the next scheduled or unscheduled shop visit, perform the following procedure for each bolt/nut location
- Remove one bolt and associated nut (if applicable)
- Clean the bolt and nut
- Apply any required lubricant per engine shop manual
- Reinstall the bolt and nut in the same location and torque per engine shop manual
- Repeat this procedure for each bolt and nut one at a time until all locations are complete

Since the LPT module is in the shop, perform the following procedure for each bolt/nut location
- Remove one bolt and associated nut (if applicable)
- Clean the bolt and nut
- Apply any required lubricant per engine shop manual
- Reinstall the bolt and nut in the same location and torque per engine shop manual
- Repeat this procedure for each bolt and nut one at a time until all locations are complete
Location bearing housing #7:
Since the LPT module is in the shop, perform the following procedure for each bolt/nut location
- Remove one bolt and associated nut (if applicable)
- Clean the bolt and nut
- Apply any required lubricant per engine shop manual
- Reinstall the bolt and nut in the same location and torque per engine shop manual
- Repeat this procedure for each bolt and nut one at a time until all locations are complete
All necessary actions must be performed on the basis of the referenced Lufthansa A.E.R.O. Shop Information Letter (SIL) CF34-3 SIL 06-001.
Compliance:
The following compliance times have been laid down by this airworthiness directive:
For engine serial numbers 872579, 807566 and 807346C:
Within 500 hours since last shop visit.
For engine serial numbers 872278, 872334 and 873070:
At the next possible letter-check or scheduled or not scheduled shop visit, whatever occurs first.
