For this year again, in 2013, the historic city centre, our fairytale palace with its magnificent parks and gardens and the surrounding lakes
together make the perfect setting for numerous events. Especially the varied programme of the “Schweriner Kultur- und Gartensommer”
will once more unite the charm of the squares, culture and nature of the city. On top, the “Schlossfestspiele Schwerin”, an open-air opera
festival, attracts thousands of visitors each year. In wintertime, the homey “Schweriner Weihnachtsmarkt”, our Christmas Market with its

Schwerin” (Soundwaves) event, a lights and water show with

WhitsunJazz 18 - 20 May 2013
Jazz classics and modern swing melodies are in tune with the
Schwerin Palace Gardens. Visitors are welcome to enjoy openair music and choose from promenade concerts in the Palace
Garden, a special musical performance against the backdrop of
the Palace, or the CityJazz in the historic city centre.

Ein Glanzpunkt im Herzen Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns Auf einer Insel, reizvoll eingebettet in eine malerische Seen- und
Parklandschaft, zählt das Schloss Schwerin zu den bedeutendsten Schöpfungen des romantischen Historismus in Europa. An der Stelle
einer slawischen Burg entstand der heutige Bau unter Einbeziehung älterer Trakte 1845-57 im Auftrag von Friedrich Franz II. als
Residenz der Großherzöge von Mecklenburg-Schwerin.
Die prachtvollen Wohn- und Festräume, darunter Thronsaal und Ahnengalerie, beeindrucken durch einen reichen plastischen und
malerischen Dekor, ergänzt durch kunstvolle Intarsienfußböden. Sie ist die letzte vollständig erhaltene Anlage einer zeremoniellen
Reihenfolge (Thronappartements) in ganz Europa. Hier präsentiert das Museum auf drei Etagen kostbare Gemälde, Skulpturen und
Kunsthandwerk vor allem des 19. Jahrhunderts. Besondere Akzente setzen die Porzellansammlung mit Meissener und KPM-Stücken
sowie die umfangreiche Kollektion fürstlicher Jagd- und Prunkwaffen.
A highlight in the heart of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern On an island, charmingly nestled in a picturesque landscape of lakes
and parkland, is Schwerin Castle, which is counted amongst the most important creations of Romantic Historicism throughout Europe.
Commissioned by Friedrich Franz II as a residence for the grand dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, today’s building was erected between
1857 and 1845 based on the wings of some earlier buildings on the former site of a Slavonic fortress.
The grand living quarters and ceremonial rooms, including a throne room and an ancestral portrait gallery, impress the visitor with their
rich sculptural and painted decor, complemented by ornate inlaid flooring. The complex of rooms is the last one throughout Europe which
has been completely preserved in its historical ceremonial order (throne appartement). On its three floors, the museum presents valuable
paintings, sculptures and artisan craftwork, which, for the most part, date back to the 19th century. Particular highlights are the porcelain
collection with pieces from Meissen and KPM (Royal Porcelain Manufactory), as well as the extensive collection of royal hunting and decorative weapons. Apart from this, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern “Landtag” (State Parliament) has had its seat in the castle since 1990.

Ludwigslust ist ein Gesamtkunstwerk, wie es nur wenige in Europa gibt. Herzog Friedrich von Mecklenburg-Schwerin entwickelte den

Joseph Lenné, the ducal Baroque castle Ludwigslust displays an unrivalled flair. The extensive collections comprise courtly art and home
décor of the 18th and early 19th century: Paintings, furniture, miniatures and decorative items made from gilded papier mâché, manufactured in the famous Ludwigslust factory. Ludwigslust Castle allows the visitor to relate to the living culture of the ducal family.

Erleben Sie Kulturgeschichte und Pferdezucht in Einem. Für interessierte Besucher bieten sich auch Führungen an. Erfahren Sie hierbei alles
über die Historie, die aktuelle Zucht und die Pferde, inklusive Rundgang durch die Ställe. Wandeln Sie zwischen Hainbuchen, Elfenblumen
und Taglilien durch das extra für die Bundesgartenschau 2009 neu eröffnete acht Hektar große Parkgelände und genießen Sie die Atmosphäre. Erleben Sie die turniersportlichen Veranstaltungen im Frühjahr oder über die Sommermonate klassische Konzerte, die Ausstellung
LebensArt und vieles mehr.
Das gemütliche Café ist täglich geöffnet und lädt zum Verweilen bei Kaffee und Kuchen oder einem kleinen Imbiss ein.

Welcome to the State Stud Farm in Redefin – a classical estate with 200 years of tradition in horse breeding and training in the southwest
of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. There is a territory of 70 hectares of land for 150 horses. The Redefin State Stud Farm includes an approved
riding and carriage driving school, breeding stallions, official examinations and assessments. It is one of Europe´s most beautiful State Stud
Farms, which attracts visitors and horse riding enthusiasts alike.
Redefin offers a charming ambience, where you can experience cultural history and horse breeding at the same time. Guided tours of the
site can be booked on request, where you will get to know everything about the history, current breedings and the horses on the farm,
including a tour of the stables. Walking between beech trees and wild flowers, you can soak up the unique atmosphere of this place. And
don’t miss out on the 8 hectares’ parkland, which has just been opened for the BUGA in 2009 (Bundesgartenschau - National Horticultural
Exhibition). With various sports events in spring, classical concerts in summer and LebensArt (‘Art of Living’) Exhibition, Redefin is a top-class
holiday destination all year round.
The inviting cafe is open on all days from April to November and offers coffee, cake and little snacks.
The Redefin State Stud Farm offers daily guided tours that can be booked by previous appointment. The guide will show you around
and tell you everything you need to know.
