I
t’s no secret that digital platforms are changing the
fundamental shopping environment across the world. At
Macerich shopping centers, we are delivering the right
tools that empower our shoppers to make the most of their
brick-and-mortar visits and helping shape new habits for
how they shop.
Macerich recently launched our fast, fun and
effective text-based concierge service for
shoppers and visitors.
From the moment of arrival to the last minute before
departure, Macerich shopping centers aim to exceed a
visitor’s expectations with unique services and amenities
that offer instant gratification: free wi-fi, charging stations,
text conversations with concierge and same-day package
delivery service; plus, guests can download the mobile
app of their favorite Macerich destination and peruse our
interactive websites.
Macerich recently launched our fast, fun and effective textbased concierge service for shoppers and visitors. The
platform reaches customers where they are, when they have
a question about the mall, its retailers, events, activities and
sales without the need to always visit concierge. The
majority of our conversations with guests revolve around
store way-finding, locating specific products, sales
promotions and hours of operation. In addition to answering
any questions, the platform also allows for the scheduling of
dinner reservations or salon services, a true benefit for our
out-of-town visitors.

T
he Irvine Company owns and
manages two of Southern
California’s most prestigious
outdoor shopping centers, Fashion
Island in Newport Beach and Irvine
Spectrum Center in Irvine, popular
destinations for shopping, dining
and entertainment for domestic and
international travelers from around the
world. The centers are recognized for
their stunning architecture, outdoor
gardens, fountains and a combined
total of over 300 department stores,
specialty shops, restaurants and cafes.
Fashion Island is home to over 150
shops and restaurants, 60 of which,
including Neiman Marcus, are located
nowhere else in Orange County. Irvine
Spectrum Center offers a diverse
mix of entertainment venues, such as
Edwards Irvine Spectrum 21 with IMAX
and luxury VIP seating, Improv Comedy
Club and Dave & Buster’s. Unique
features include a 108-foot giant wheel
with LED lighting to complement the

The Irvine Company traces its roots to
the 1860s with the formation of The
Irvine Ranch from Mexican and Spanish
land grants. In 1897, the Irvine Company
made its first gift of land to the public,
several hundred oak- and sycamorefilled acres that today form Irvine
Regional Park. This set into motion
a remarkable history of philanthropy
and stewardship on The Irvine Ranch
that continues to this day. In 2014,
Irvine Company Chairman Donald Bren
presented another gift of 2,500 acres in
North Orange County that has created
one of the nation’s largest urban
open space networks. The company’s
efforts have resulted in the permanent
preservation of 57,000 acres or nearly
60 percent of the entire 93,000-acre
Irvine Ranch.

Southern California scenic spaces and
outdoor activities, including hiking, bird
watching, boating and more, at Crystal
Cove State Park, Los Trancos and El
Moro canyons, the Westbay habitat at
Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve

travels from Weir Canyon all the way to

ard Rock International merchandise has taken on an
almost cult-like status and is
sought after by collectors throughout the world. Hard Rock collectible
and fashion merchandise has become the authoritative memento of
the rock experience enjoyed at each
unique Hard Rock location.
Although the first Hard Rock Cafe
opened in June 1971 in London, the
first official Hard Rock merchandise store didn’t open until 1988
in New York City. Over the years,
T-shirts with the Hard Rock logo
had been created and given out to
special friends, but the idea to turn
them into retail items came after an
enterprising coat-check girl at Hard
Rock Cafe in New York suggested
selling them. Souvenir-hungry
guests snapped up the shirts, and
soon people all over the world were
bearing items emblazoned with the
iconic Hard Rock logo.
“Through the years, Hard Rock
has worked with world-renowned
musicians and bands like Imagine
Dragons, Rihanna, U2 and, most
recently, partnered with the Bob
Marley family to create imaginative
designs for important philanthropic
programs, supporting Hard Rock’s
brand promise to ‘Love All—Serve
All,’” said Vickie Kunkle, Senior Vice
President, Merchandise at Hard
Rock International. “These original
designs are created into iconic Tshirts and pins, sold at Hard Rock
properties worldwide with a portion of the retail price benefitting
the artist’s preferred charity.”
Collectible merchandise includes
authentic items, such as T-shirts,
sweatshirts, pins, leather jackets,
key chains, watches, baseball caps,
shot glasses and more. Hard Rock’s
classic and city T-shirts are the
most popular-selling items and account for a majority of merchandise
revenues. City-specific Hard Rock
Lake Tahoe’s pin is decorated with a
windsurfer girl, while New York City’s
pin features the head of the Statue
of Liberty on a guitar). Hard Rock
Cafe servers also showcase a collection of pins daily on their uniforms,
paying homage to the collectability
and incredible appeal of Hard Rock’s
merchandise. There is even an official
Hard Rock Cafe Pin Collector’s Club
that swaps and trades collections at
HardRock.com.

Hard Rock collectible pins are
mega-sellers. Each pin features
the Hard Rock logo and a distinctive icon, which reflects the spirit
of the Hard Rock Cafe city (i.e.,

display cases for Hard Rock’s pins,
are only offered online—adding an
increased value and desirability for
collectors throughout the world.
