PATTERN STITCH
Cable Braid (21-st panel)
Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl.
Row 3: Sl 7 sts to cn and hold in back, k7, k7 from cn, k7.

Rows 5, 7, 9 and 11: Knit.
Row 13: K7, sl 7 sts to cn and hold in front, k7, k7 from cn.
Rows 15, 17, 19 and 21: Knit.
Row 22: Purl.
Rep Rows 3–22 for pat.
SCARF
Cast on 21 sts.
Work in Cable Braid pat until scarf measures 60 inches,
ending with either Row 10 or Row 20 of pat.
Loosely bind off all sts.

Pompoms
Make 2
Cut 2 cardboard circles approx 3 inches in diameter. Cut a
hole in the center of each circle, about 1/2 inch in diameter.
Thread a tapestry needle with a length of yarn doubled.
Holding both circles together, insert needle through center
hole, over the outside edge, through center again until entire
circle is covered and center hole is filled (thread more lengths
of yarn as needed).
With sharp scissors, cut yarn between the 2 circles all around
the circumference.
Using two 12-inch strands of yarn, slip yarn between
circles and overlap yarn ends 2 or 3 times to prevent knot
from slipping, pull tightly and tie into a firm knot. Remove
cardboard and fluff out pompom by rolling it between your
hands. Trim even with scissors, leaving ends for attaching
pompom to scarf.
Gather each end of the scarf and sew a pompom to each end.
Weave in all ends. n
