Hey, Mr. Snowman! is a read-aloud with a predictable
pattern, but enough variations to keep students attentive to the
details of print. It can be printed as is for a read-aloud. The font
is also large enough for the pages to be mounted on construction
paper and used as a big book for shared reading.
Emergent readers must have repeated opportunities to
read words in order to master them. Please look at the extended
activity set for Hey,Mr.Snowman!, available at my TPT store.
This set will provide your young readers additional practice with
the same story in a variety of contexts:
* a guided reading book in 2 formats (one fully
illustrated, the other with a choice of drawing or
cut-and-glue for some of the illustrations)
* sentence strips and picture cards to retell
the story in sequence on the pocket chart
* a readers’ theater script of the story
In addition to extending reading vocabulary, the
materials are designed to improve fluency, specifically inflection,
phrasing, and emphasis, as shown by bold text and italics. Used
together, they will make a great “Mr. Snowman Literacy Center”!
There are even 3 pages of props that can be printed and taped to
craft sticks for students to use in improvising a new Mr. Snowman
story.
