Our Ministers to the Sick bring the Eucharist to
the homebound and those in care facilities who
are not able to come to Mass. If you or a relative would like the Eucharist brought to your
home or nursing home, please call our Ministry
to the Sick Coordinator, Mary Wresh 748-3639.
If you would like to serve the Lord by bringing
Him to our homebound parishioners, please call
Mary Wresh at 748-3639. Our Ministers to the
Sick attend special training so they are confidently prepared and can focus on the Eucharist
and our parishioner during their visit.

Did you know? Your gifts to Our Catholic Appeal prepare our deacons for a lifetime of service.
Through the Sacrament of Holy Orders, the deacon is ordained to be a servant of Christ to His people, and a humble aid to the ministry of priests and
the bishop. The Diocesan Office of Permanent Diaconate, which is supported by
your generous gifts to Our Catholic A ppeal, assists our Deacons at every step, from
discernment to training to ongoing spiritual formation.
Please remember that our parish goal is $336,601. The pledged amount to date is
$275,262 which is 81.8% of our goal, with 1,183 (48.9%) families participating. Once we have achieved our goal, the majority of additional funds will be
returned to our parish to support our own local needs. This year, we will commit
our parish over-goal dollars to the building fund.

Faith Formation
CHILDREN’S FAITH FORMATION
Faith Formation classes for gr ades K-High
School will resume on Wednesday evenings,
6:15-7:45pm beginning September 3rd with a
family orientation night. Registration forms are
available in the vestibule.
Liturgy of the Word for Children will r esume September 7 at the 10am Mass.
SMALL CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES (SCC): Our
faith-sharing groups focus on the Gospel for
the following weekend and on exploring personal faith journeys. We are about prayer,
discussion and Christian fellowship. A NEW
GROUP, WHICH WILL MEET AT THE CHURCH,
IS NOW FORMING AND WE CAN ACCOMMODATE A FEW MORE PARTICIPANTS. If you ar e

course by Augustine Institute
which provides a compelling
and comprehensive explanation of the Catholic Faith
through beautifully crafted
presentations, state-of-the-art video and a dynamic team
of outstanding teachers, led by professor, speaker and
author Dr. Edward Sri. The course, through a series of
ten 90 minute sessions, provides a clear and compelling
vision of what the church teaches and how to live it
amidst the challenges of contemporary society. It will be
offered in September!!
Litbit: Presider: Why do we call the pr iest a pr esider? Those of us who predate Vatican II remember using
terms like “hearing Mass,” or “attending Mass.” We
said that Father “said” Mass. All of these ways of speaking about our Sunday Worship give the feeling of a passive, audience-type event. And in many ways, it was.
Mass was in Latin and the music was supplied by the
choir, if there was any at all. Along with the Vatican II
emphasis of the importance of the activity of the assembly, was the conviction that our worship experience was
a celebration, a celebration of praise and thanksgiving.
For a while, the Church started calling the priest the celebrant, but it quickly realized that that was misleading,
because ALL OF US celebrate the liturgy. The priest’s
role is to lead our prayer. Therefore, his role is described
as “presider” or sometimes “priest-celebrant” the one

Come Pray for our Troops at Veterans Park
A prayer group for our troops meets every Thursday at 8:00 a.m. at Veterans' Memorial Park in Spanish Springs. The
group has been meeting for 8 years, and the main purpose is so the people don't forget our soldiers. The names of any
soldier who has lost their life in the past week are read. Then a list is read of approximately 150 men and women who
are now overseas and at home. Then the group says prayers for the safety of the soldiers and their families. At the end,
we sing a patriotic song.
After the meeting there is a fellowship breakfast at Too Jays in Spanish Springs. Everyone is welcome. It is only 20-30
minutes of your time. The troops need to be remembered; they give us so much.

As many of you have noticed the Saturday Vigil
Mass times have changed. The reason for this
change is because the Policy of the Providence of
Miami states: A Vigil Mass cannot be held before
4:00 p.m. We were given special consideration by
the Bishop to celebrate Mass at 3:00pm on Saturday due to the number of masses necessary to accommodate our blossoming parish.

Please refrain from going near or into the new church, as it is a construction site at this
time. Please note the new parking area, once paved, is still under construction - we

Please come pray with us at the Ocala Women’s Center, 108 SW Pine Ave, in Ocala. We

gather to pray in front of the clinic..

Resale shop benefiting the Soup
Kitchen, Food Pantry and local Outreach programs.
Hours: Mon-Sat: 10am-2pm
Drop-offs should be made 1 hour prior to closing. For
pick up of large items, please call 689-0128.
Location: 115 S. Main Street (Rt. 301) in downtown Wildwood. The shop is a small, cream-colored building located
two stores north of “The Red Door” store and across from
“Kuhn Chiropractic.”
Non-clothing Donations: Furniture, home décor, kitchen
items, children’s items, linens, etc.
We welcome you to come and shop.

Outreach and Food Pantry
Our expenses during the past month were close to three
thousand dollars. This is usually the case in the summer and it decreases in the winter. There were fourteen
clients who were helped by our personal assistance volunteers with electricity being the most expensive item. With
the heat, humidity, and poor insulation, most clients have
high bills and have a difficult time paying their bill when
their work hours have been decreased. Other items that
were paid were rent, medicine, gas and phone bills. Usually financial assistance is given only once a year. Since
donations are down from parishioners and clubs, six hundred dollars was also spent for food to be distr ibuted
at the pantry.
Our income is derived from Our Mother's Attic and donations. Y our support is appreciated by our volunteers as
well as clients.
The office and pantry is located at San Pedro Maldonado
Mission Church, across from the city hall in downtown
Wildwood. This location is convenient to our clients who
may need to walk. Volunteers are usually in the office
Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at 10 am to see clients
with appointments. Privacy, prayer, compassionate listening, and advice are used with every person who comes to
us for help. Appointments are necessary for an appropriate
amount of time is given for each client.
Volunteers for the pantry bring food from the church to
the pantry where food is sorted, shelved, and inventoried.
Food is purchased in order that enough is on hand to be
distributed. Clients are interviewed and given food for
their household.
Food requested includes cereal; canned fruit and vegetables; canned meat including pasta and sausages;
crackers and peanut butter; 1lb packages of rice and
dried pinto beans; condiments including mustard and
ketchup; mac and cheese; pudding mixes; and instant
mashed potatoes. If you ar e able to donate paper products; soap; and/or grocery cards, that would also be appreciated.
Please remember that children are home for the summer
and with the increases in food prices, providing for that
extra meal may bring a financial hardship for many families. Also, many senior citizens may not have had the employment opportunities that many of us had in northern
states and they have a difficult time with their small income.

The 4th Degree of the Knights of Columbus at St.
Marks's the Evangelist Church would like to thank
everyone for their support during the recent US Flag collection. We collected over 300 flags. The US flag is a
very special icon for the people of this country. Many
have made sacrifices and many have made the ultimate
sacrifice for the freedom this symbol represents. Special
treatment should be given to these flags when they become worn, torn, and faded, the 4th Degree at St. Mark's
insured they received the dignity and respect the flag deserves. The flags were properly "Retired" during Flag
Retirement Ceremonies on Flag Day. We thank you for
