As I type, I’m on a high after our first Mollie
Makes Handmade Awards. It was such an
inspiring day. We invited 25 passionate
finalists to The Proud Archivist in London
to present their businesses to our panel of
judges/mentors. We were overwhelmed by
the talent! We’re looking forward to featuring
our winners next issue. In the meantime,
read about our day at www.molliemakes.com
and search the hashtag #HandmadeAwards.

accomplished one of these (not the first two).
We’re watching this space for YouTube videos,
but for now we’ll make do with her yarn skills.

EASY-STITCH
ANCHOR PURSE
Paying homage to the iconic anchor design
“Anchors are such a wonderful, timeless
symbol – representing hope and love. I was
surprised to learn that in ancient times they
even served as a secret code for Christians to
identify themselves and avoid persecution.
A ubiquitous tattoo, countless are the times
I’ve resisted getting a tiny little anchor inked
à la Kate Moss. I’ve long enjoyed mixing
tattoo imagery with hand embroidery and
this is a simple, easy design, perfect for
a quick, one-sitting, stitching project.
You could use this pouch for keeping
your best rings or earrings apart from other
jewellery, or fill it with dried flowers to make
a sweet-smelling sachet for a friend. Tiny
pouches like this will always find a use and
your hand embroidery will indicate that
something special is kept inside!”
Jenny Hart founded Sublime Stitching in
2001 as a new model for embroidery design
and resources. Since then, Jenny has become
internationally recognised as an artist, designer,
award-winning author and top international
exhibitor. Find more of her work at www.sublime
stitching.com and www.jennyhart.net
Turn to page 90 to learn how to stitch your
purse, and don’t forget to share your finished
versions on Instagram using #molliemakers.
