How To configure Nortel/Avaya Media Gateway Controller (MGC) with UCx server UCx 4.0 Feature Description To support the integration of Nortel Meridian Taurus M3902/M3903/M3904 and Aries 2008/2616 digital phone sets into the UCX server, there are certain configuration settings required in the Media Gateway Controller (MGC) card and in the UCX server. How To configure Nortel/Avaya Media Gateway Controller (MGC) with UCx server UCx 4.0 Pre-Requisites UCX server is installed with E-Metrotel Release 4.0 software. CS1000 hardware: Meridian Option 11 (10 card) cabinet / CS1000 (4 card) chassis / MG1010 cabinet Media Gateway Controller (MGC) card One or two DSP daughter-boards (32-port, 96-port, 128-port) Digital Line Cards (DLC) M2008, M2616, M390x phone sets connected to phone set panel IP addresses The IP addresses assigned to UCX server, MGC ELAN, MGC TLAN and MGC DSP daughterboard TLAN must be in the same subnet. e.g. 192.168.1.x If MGC is registered in security domain of CS1000 system, it has to be de-registered first before registering with UCX server. How To configure Nortel/Avaya Media Gateway Controller (MGC) with UCx server UCx 4.0 Configuring the MGC Configuring existing MGC with ELAN connectivity If this is an existing MGC card with network connectivity, perform the following steps: 1. Login to MGC. 2. Enter the command mgcsetup 3. Step through the prompts until you get to Primary CS IP 4. Enter the UCX server IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.200) at this prompt 5. Proceed through the rest of the prompts without any changes 6. Reboot the MGC card ldb> mgcsetupELAN IP : 192.168.1.210ELAN subnet mask : 255.255.255.0ELAN gateway IP : 192.168.1.1Primary CS IP : 192.168.1.100 ? 192.168.1.200 Configuring a New MGC card If this is a new MGC card with no network connectivity, perform the following steps: 1. Connect to MGC card via the serial port. 2. Enter the command mgcsetup to configure the MGC ELAN parameters 3. Configure the UCX server IP address at Primary CS IP prompt (e.g. 192.168.1.200) 4. Proceed through the rest of the prompts without any changes 5. Open the UCX Web-based Configuration Utility 2. From the PBX tab, select Media Gateway 3. Select New Media Gateway to add the MGC 4. Enter the MGC configuration values 5. How To configure Nortel/Avaya Media Gateway Controller (MGC) with UCx server UCx 4.0 Configuring M3900 series Nortel Digital phone sets To configure a M3900 series Nortel digital set, see Adding a Nortel Extension in the Administration Guide. Under Nortel Properties, select the Device type from the pull-down list that matches your M3900 series digital set. Once the configuration is complete and the changes have been applied, the digital set will become active and display the following information: Extension Date and time Powered by UCx (39xx phone) The programmable keys can be configured for Call Transfer, CallForward and Voicemail features on M2008 and M2616 set. The MGC faceplate will display the configured superloop and shelf. How To configure Nortel/Avaya Media Gateway Controller (MGC) with UCx server UCx 4.0 MGC specific information Updating TLAN IP parameters In the event an MGC card fails to configure the TLAN IP parameters after registering with UC X server, the following steps can be used to update TLAN IP parameters: 1. Login to MGC. 2. Use the command mgcTlanUpdate to update the TLAN IP parameters 3. In the example below, the parameters configured are: 192.168.1.20 is the TLAN IP address ffffff00 represents the subnet mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1 is the TLAN gateway address ldb>mgcTlanUpdate "192.168.1.20:ffffff00", "192.168.1.1" MGC Registration Status 1. Login to MGC. 2. Use the command mgcinfoshow to query MGC registration status. ldb>mgcinfoshow MGC Loadware information 1. Login to MGC. 2. Use the command swversionShow to query MGC loadware information. ldb>swversionShow Recommended MGC Loadware The following is the recommended MGC loadware baseline. Procedure to reset MGC password The password can be reset on MGC with telnet connection to MGC card ELAN IP address or through a serial port connection. This procedure will not work through SSH connection. How To configure Nortel/Avaya Media Gateway Controller (MGC) with UCx server UCx 4.0 This is the login prompt through a telnet connection to MGC card's ELAN IP address: login: With telnet connection, type CTRL+ldb to get the following prompt: LDB login on /pty/pty00.SUsername: resetPWD Type resetPWD at Username: prompt as shown above. PWRD will be displayed on the MGC faceplate display. Enter admin2 for userID. Press the reset faceplate button on MGC card within 60 seconds. Press the ENTER key on keyboard within 60 seconds. Enter new PWD2 password twice. Enter new PDT2 password twice. Login to MGC with login: PDT2 and newly set password. ****************************************************************** WARNING: All attempts to use the Password Reset Mechanism ** are logged.
