Nato a Trento nel 2010 dall’intuito visionario di Ignazio Pomini e Fabio Ciciani, .exnovo è un
marchio di HSL, la prima azienda in Italia e tra le prime in Europa ad usare le tecnologie di
Manifattura Additiva. Forti dell’esperienza accumulata dall’azienda in più di 25 anni nel settore
della prototipazione, hanno deciso di intraprendere una nuova sfida, portando il know-how nel

A STORY OF PIONEERS
Born in Trento in 2010, thanks to the visionary intuition of Ignazio Pomini and Fabio
Ciciani, .exnovo is a brand of HSL, the first company in Italy and among the first in Europe
in using Additive Manufacturing technologies. Backed by experience accumulated by the
company in more than 25 years in the prototyping industry, they decided to accept a new
challenge, bringing their know-how in the design of lighting and furnishing items.
.exnovo now creates, designs and produces small, limited production runs of exclusive
designed lamps and furnishing accessories, in collaboration with young and talented designers
and Italian artists and artisans, who hold high the value of Made in Italy.

Tutti i prodotti sono realizzati a Trento (Italia): ogni oggetto realizzato dalla macchina viene
successivamente lavorato e rifinito a mano. Ciò che caratterizza il marchio, è l’impiego di
tecnologie d’avanguardia che esaltano il sapere e le competenze artigianali. La tecnologia di
stampa 3D professionale, processo additivo che trasforma un file digitale in un oggetto solido, si
mette al servizio dell’artigianato, per dar vita a creazioni che esprimono l’idea di una creatività
illimitata, impossibili da realizzare con i tradizionali processi produttivi, ma coerenti con i canoni

All products are made in Trento (Italy): each object made by the machinery is later hand worked
and finished. A distinguishing feature of the brand is the use of leading edge technologies to
enhance a craftsman’s skills and knowledge. Professional 3D printing technology is put at the
disposal of the craftsman, to bring to life creations embodying the concept of unrestricted creativity,
that would be impossible to make using traditional production processes, but that uphold the
criteria of formal beauty of Italian culture.

by the incredible world of entomology. It is
a curious subject, but one that boasts an
illustrious precedent: it was in fact Kafka
who talked about how one could wake up
transformed into an insect. The beetle that

Here then in the rounded and compact shape
of the sintered nylon diffuser we perceive the
delicate armour of the elytra, which reveals the
light source within. The visual play continues
and suggests, in the crafted ceramic base too,
new parts and comparisons.

CORA and LEA are two hanging lamps with
decidedly feminine lines and a retro inspiration.
On the one hand the volumes of the lampshades
are reminiscent of the soft, rounded shapes
of the sixties. On the other, there is a strong
decorative note that is evocative of guilloches,
with their subtle decorations of metals and
filigrees of the late 19th century.

But rather than being engraved on a solid
material, these lines become the structure of
the lampshade itself, creating a weave with
a highly decorative impact. The continuity of
the structure of the lampshade, which has an
ethereal appearance, gives the lamp solidity.
In addition, the geometric decoration that is
such a feature of the lamp once it is illuminated,
is projected into the surroundings, enriching
the room’s surfaces with a new texture.

A concept borrowed from botanical science to

the new collection of lamps for exnovo by
Alessandro Zambelli takes its name from AFILLIA,

fullness, strength and lightness: space and its

Bolle series is very light and evanescent, but
the three-dimensional structure makes it very
strong. Inspired by soap bubbles, its shape gives
the sensation of a structure that arises from the
creation of a soft foam. The sphere is perfect in
its simplicity as the bubble.

When a bubble joins other bubbles, they
look like starlets: they push and overlap each
other with lightness, elegance and cynicism, to
show their best. They become foam, wild but
fascinating. The items of Bolle series are high
design furnishings. Thanks to their white colour,
they can decorate various places: a modern

The rings give the feeling of dynamic power
and emphasize the planet uniqueness and
charm. Saturno lamp hides the planet behind

matter, if the effect is a double soul lamp,

A subtle and light band with an elliptical cross
section whirls around on its axis. Just like a
dancer’s gown, it spreads out and then closes

Design Studio
A joint, whose internal geometric complexity is
achievable only through the production possibilities
offered by rapid prototyping, it is kept in balance by
the tension of three elastic bands that function in
much the same way as a muscle with a joint. That is the
principal element of the Trick lamp. A light, articulated
arm, in which sophisticated sintering technology takes
on a clear and simple form that interacts with an
almost fun-like element such as elastic. The LED light
source helps reduce power consumption, and the
size and weight of the diffuser, while the power cable
is hidden within the structure, running through the
joints themselves.
The intellectual class of enlightenment is our
favourite, and even today it still seems to be the only
solution. As in the definition of Enlightenment, the
light of reason is the “content” needed to emerge
from religious obscurantism, so in the bottle, the
“light contained” is the only possible reading of
the object. Table lamp or freestanding lamp, in five
variations of design and size, VOLTAIRE is capable of
illuminating both writing and reading, softening its
intensity and temperature so as to create a warm
light full of atmosphere.

After a Master Degree in Interior Design
at Politecnico di Milano, Serena Confalonieri works in many architecture and
design practices in Milano, Barcelona
and Berlin. Now she is an independent designer based in Milano, working
on interior, graphic and textile design
projects and collaborating with important design companies such as Nodus,
cc-tapis, Wall&decò. Her works are placed inbetween product and graphic design: an accurate research on the surfaces

Marco Lafiandra è nato a Bari nel
1983. Ha conseguito il diploma di
laurea presso l’Università La Sapienza di Roma. Durante il suo ultimo
anno di studi ha frequentato anche
l’Università Politecnica di Valencia e
il Politecnico di Milano.
Attualmente vive e lavora a New York
come designer. Durante gli studi ha
sviluppato interessi in diversi ambiti,
con numerose esperienze nel campo
del design e della fotografia. Marco
impiega la sua esperienza per dar vita
a un processo unico: dalla ricerca minuziosa, alla sintesi delle idee raccolte,
con una buona dose di cuore.
Marco Lafiandra was born in Bari
in 1983. He obtained a master degree in Industrial Design in 2009 at
the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. During his last year of studies he
also attended the Universitat Politechnica de Valencia and the Consortium
of Politecnico di Milano. He currently lives and works in New
York as a designer. Through his years
of studying he deepened his interests through a number of parallel experiences in the field of photography
and design. He applies his experience
to create a unique process. Starting
with painstaking research, a synthesis
of collected ideas and a good measure
of heart.
Selvaggia è nata a Trento. Si laurea presso la Facoltà di Architettura del Politecnico di Milano. Durante il periodo degli

Nato nel 2008, con sede a Milano,
4P1B è uno studio di design che opera
nel mondo della progettazione con la
convinzione che ogni cosa sia progetto. Per questo motivo la sua attività
spazia dal mondo del mobile all’illuminazione, dall’allestimento al retail.
4P1B lavora quindi in ambiti diversi
sviluppando soluzioni sia per prodotti
di massa che dedicandosi alla sperimentazioni in piccole edizioni limitate. Al centro del lavoro di 4P1B c’è
il metodo progettuale e la ricerca costante di soluzioni formali, funzionali
e commerciali, innovative. Nel 2013
inizia la collaborazione con .exnovo.
Alessandro vive e lavora a Mantova.
Si specializza in Disegno Industriale
e Tecnica dei Materiali presso la Fondazione Cova e nel 2000 inizia la
sua attività professionale con Agape.
A partire dal 2003 intraprende la libera professione. Crea così Alessandro
Zambelli Designstudio, attività prevalentemente dedicata all’industrial e
product design. Non vive mai il suo
lavoro come puro esercizio di stile:
pensa sia indispensabile che ogni oggetto sia illuminato da un’anima. Dal
2013 inizia la collaborazione con .exnovo. la sua creazione Afillia è entrata
nell’ADI Design Index 2014.
Andrea è nato a Genova. Consegue
maturità artistica e successivamente
segue corsi presso la Facoltà di Architettura di Genova . Negli anni successivi partecipa a numerose mostre
collettive sia in Liguria che a Milano.
Nel 1999 crea DAN design progettazioni e realizzazioni illuminotecniche
(pezzi unici o a tiratura limitata) e
progettazioni per ditte produttrici di
apparecchi per illuminazione. Negli
anni intercorsi dal 2004 al 2013 ha
collaborato con alcune ditte di illuminazione per la progettazione di lampade. Nel 2012 è iniziata la collaborazione con .exnovo.
Based in Milan, 4P1B Design Studio
operates in the world of design since
2008 and its philosophy is founded
on the strong belief that everything is
design. Because of this, its work ranges widely from furniture to lighting,
from exhibitions to retail designing,
from complex concepts to minute
details. Thus, 4P1B covers various
trade sectors including solution developments for mass productions just as
well as focus on experimenting within
exclusive limited editions. At the core
of all 4P1B’s works reigns its designing
method and the constant strive to optimize formal, functional, commercial

Alessandro lives and works in Mantua. He studied industrial design and
materials engineering at the Cova
School of Design in Milan, and his
career took off at bathroom designer
Agape in 2000. A few years later, in
2003, he founded Alessandro Zambelli Designstudio, activities mainly dedicated to industrial and product design. He never sees his work purely as
an exercise in style. He believes an inner soul must enliven every object. In
2013 he began a collaboration with
.exnovo. One of its creations Afillia
entered the ADI Design Index 2014.
Andrea was born in Genoa. He’s

graduation qualification and later

Franz è un artista e scultore di Ortisei, Val Gardena. Frequenta la scuola
d’arte di Ortisei e fa apprendistato in
diverse botteghe. Negli anni ‘80 apre
un suo studio. Diplomato in maestro
scultore, da vita a molte mostre personali a Fiè allo Sciliar, Merano, Tirolo,
Bolzano, Venezia, Verona e Parma e
partecipa ad alcune mostre collettive.
Nel 2013 entra nel mondo della stampa 3D e sperimenta in prima persona
le possibilità offerte dalla tecnologia.
Da qui nasce la collaborazione con
.exnovo, in un mix di arte e tecnica
che fonde tradizione e innovazione.
Franz is an artist and sculptor from
Ortisei, Val Gardena. He’s attended
the Ortisei School of art and he’s done
an apprenticeship in various workshops. In 80’s he opened his own atelier. Graduated as master sculptor, he’s
organized many exhibits: Fiè allo Sciliar, Merano, Tirolo, Bolzano, Venice,
Verona and Parma. He’s taken part
in various common exhibits. In 2013
his research expanded into the world
of 3D Printing and he went through
the opportunities that the technology
offers. From here on the collaboration
with .exnovo started, creating a mix of
art and technology and merging tradition and innovation.

Gio ha conseguito il master degree in
Design presso il Politecnico di Milano
nel 2007. Si occupa oggi di grafica,
prodotto e interior design. Tutto ciò che
progetta deriva dall’attenzione a cosa c’è
intorno, vivo o inanimato che sia. Se c’è
un limite tra arte e design, lui cerca di
superarlo, reinventando tutta la complicità tra esseri umani e oggetti. Questa
è la ragione per la quale lui crede che
rituali, memoria e immaginazione siano spesso l’essenza delle cose. Stefano è
nato a Fiorenzuola d’Arda. Si laurea al
Politecnico di Milano, facoltà di Disegno Industriale. Dal 2013 collabora
con Gio Tirotto come freelance designer
e light developer. Nello stesso anno è iniziata la loro collaborazione con .exnovo.
Gio has obtained his Master degree in

inanimate. If there is a limit between
art and design, he tries to erase it and
re-design all the existing complicity

born in Fiorenzuola d’Arda. He’s graduated at Politecnico di Milano, faculty

Lanzavecchia+Wai è una collaborazione creativa tra Francesca Lanzavecchia
e Hunn Wai. Per loro essere designer
significa essere ricercatori, ingegneri,
artigiani e storyteller allo stesso tempo.
Wai proviene da Singapore, educato come industrial designer presso la
National University, mentre Lanzavecchia è laureata in Product Design
presso il Politecnico di Milano. Hanno
iniziato la loro collaborazione presso la
Design Academy di Eindhoven. Il principale interesse di Francesca si concentra sul rapporto che gli oggetti hanno e
possono avere con il corpo umano e con
l’anima. Wai è affascinato da contaminazioni e fusioni di materiali, significati e forme. Dal 2013 collaborano con
.exnovo.
Lanzavecchia+Wai is a creative collaboration between Francesca Lanzavecchia and Hunn Wai. To them, being
designers means being researchers,
engineers, craftsmen and story-tellers
all at the same time. Wai hails from
Singapore, educated as an industrial
designer at the National University,
while Lanzavecchia received her BA
in Product Design from Politecnico di
Milano. They began their cooperation
at the Design Academy Eindhoven.
Francesca’s main interest lies in the relationships objects have and can have
with the human body and soul. Wai is
fascinated by the collisions and fusions
of materials, meanings and forms. In
2013 they started working with .exnovo.
