HERO LOOK STAYS UNBEATEN
CHC & STC CREATE SING=S RICHEST RACE
Hero Look (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) took his record to
a perfect three-for-three with a 2 1/4-length victory in
Sunday=s G2 Gran Criterium at San Siro, becoming his
freshman sire=s second group stakes winner.
Hero Look, who opened his account with an
impressive show at the end of June over 1200 meters
and strolled home in a conditions race over 1500
meters, was the top choice of the four juveniles trained
by Stefano Botti and the dominant trainer=s only
concern was the heavy ground.
The colt stalked the honest pace set by stablemate
Ginwar (Ity) (Martino Alonso {Ire}), moved to challenge
in the last 400 meters and outran Ginwar, while Azari
(GB) (Azamour {Ire}), who failed to respond when the
first two kicked for home, stayed on for third.
AThe ground bothered him, but he won because he is
much better than his rivals,@ said winning jockey Fabio
Branca. AHero Look is the best juvenile I=ve ever ridden
and probably a first-class colt over faster ground.@
Owner Felice Villa was celebrating her first win in the
Gran Criterium. AWith a colt like him we can dream big,@
Villa said. AThe Italian 2000 Guineas is probably a lowprofile target, but we have all the winter to think about
it.@
Lope De Vega (Shamardal) won the 2010 G1 Poule
d'Essai des Poulains and G1 Prix du Jockey Club. He
has also been represented by G3 Sirenia S. winner
Burnt Sugar (Ire). Hero Look=s dam, multiple stakes
placed Roscoff (Daylami {Ire}), is from a speedy female
line developed by Kilfrush Stud. Cont. p3
The running of the richest race in Singapore--worth
S$3.05 million (US$2,389,486)--was announced
Saturday by Teo Ah Khing, Chairman of the China
Horse Club (CHC) and Tan Guong Ching, Chairman of
the Singapore Turf Club (STC) at the 2014 CECF
Yangtze Delta Region Gala Dinner in Shanghai, China.
The new racing event will be one of the highlights of
the CECF Singapore, the first international lifestyle,
social, business and Thoroughbred racing event
targeted to a Chinese audience. It will be held Feb. 2022, 2015 during the Chinese New Year celebrations.
The theme of the 2015 CECF Singapore is >East Meets
West= which is designed to build off of the current
CECF 2014 which was themed as >Bringing China to
the World and the World to China.= Many activities will
be offered during the festival, including an invitation
only CECF Singapore Gala Dinner, a showpiece raceday
and the opportunity to race a horse in Singapore=s
richest race.
AThere has never been a Thoroughbred inspired
international event designed to cater for the unique
requirements of a niche market from Mainland China.
The CECF Singapore changes that,@ stated Ah Khing.
AThe concept of drawing a population of Chinese,
including ultrahigh networth Chinese, overseas with a
sophisticated lifestyle and social festival is very
exciting. An event of this stature would not be possible
without the continued support and vision of the
Singapore Turf Club, its chairman, Mr. Tan, and senior
management.@ Cont. p10
LA TIA TALLIES ATHENIA SCORE
The Armando De la cerda-trained La Tia (City Place)
annexed her third graded win of the season yesterday
in Belmont=s
GIII Athenia S. in
pillar-to-post
fashion. Quick out
of the gate, La Tia
assumed her usual
position at the
head of affairs
through splits of
:25.22 and :48.83
La Tia (inside)
over the yielding

turf. Still in charge
at the top of the stretch, she began to open up at the
top of the lane and dug in to hold off a rallying Byrama
(GB) (Byron {GB}) and Overheard (Macho Uno), who
was closing from far back. Cont. p4

The German raider Quaduna has a special liking for
San Siro. Last season she came for the G3 Premio
Verziere with just a maiden win in her bag and posted a
wire-to-wire success. The Gestut Fahrhof homebred
started this season winning at the listed level at
Hoppegarten and was not disgraced when fourth, less
than four lengths behind the winner Esoterique (Ire)
(Danehill Dancer {Ire}), in the G3 Dahlia S. The heavy
ground turned into a magic carpet for Quaduna, who
set the pace and outstayed the Group 3 winner So
Many Shots, who ran a solid race in her come back and
will head to the G1 Lydia Tesio. Duke Of Marmalade
(Ire) (Danehill), who stands at Drakenstein Stud Farm
for his first South African season, sired the winning
exacta. Quelle Amore, the dam of Quaduna, joined
Katsumi Yoshida's broodmare band after being
purchased for 300,000gns at the Tattersalls December
sale in 2010. Her first Japanese foal, the 3-year-old filly
Quelle Chance (Jpn) (Dubawi {Ire}) has won once.
Quelle Amore has a yearling colt by King Kamehameha
(Jpn) (Kingmambo).

"They pushed her too much in the last race,@ said
winning trainer Armando De la Cerda. AI was a little
concerned with it having rained here, but she ran well
on a good course last time, and when I saw the [other]
speed horse was scratched, I felt better. She may run
one more time this year, but I don't know where."
La Tia opened up her 5-year-old account with a
runner-up effort in an optional claimer over the
Arlington synthetic May 9 and garnered her first graded
stakes win a race later with a 6 1/4-length win in the
GIII Arlington Matron S. win May 24. Third in the
rained-off Lincoln Heritage H. June 21, she returned a
month later to romp in the GII Ontario Matron S. at
Woodbine at the end of July. The speedy mare faded to
fourth in the GI Beverly D. back on the Arlington turf
Aug. 16 and finished third in the turfy GII Canadian S.
at Woodbine Sept. 14.

Largely ignored by the betting public entering this
test, Brisanto had the pedigree credentials to shine, as
a son of the 2008 G2 German
1000 Guineas winner Briseida
and he was able to dent some
bigger reputations and state his
case for next year=s domestic
Classics. Fourth on debut over
7 1/2 furlongs at Dusseldorf
Aug. 3, the bay was off the
mark over this track and trip last
time Sept. 13 and raced keenly
close to the pace after a tardy
start. Sent past Sherlock to the
lead approaching the furlong
pole, the homebred was quickly
in the clear en route to a decisive
Brisanto
success.

FEATURE PRESENTATION • GI QEII CHALLENGE CUP
CROWN QUEEN FINE AFTER QE II WIN
Crown Queen (Smart Strike), winner of Saturday=s
GI Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup, exited the race in
fine form, according to her connections. AEverything is
fine,@ said Rodolphe Brisset, assistant to trainer Bill
Mott. AShe ate everything and she looks good this
morning. We=re in good shape.@ Brisset said Besilu
Stable=s Ben Leon and Mott will discuss where to send
the filly next in the upcoming week.
Vicki Oliver, trainer of Personal Diary (City Zip), who
dead-heated for third Saturday, said the GII Mrs. Revere
S. at Churchill Downs Nov. 15 is a possible next start
for the filly. AShe will probably go there or be put away
for the year,@ said Oliver. AShe ran well yesterday, but
the turf was a little soft for her.@

RACETRACK ROUND-UP
>HILL= DONE FOR SEASON
Trainer Roger Varian has confirmed Kingston Hill (GB)
(Mastercraftsman {Ire}) will not run again this season,
ruling out a crack at Saturday's G1 QIPCO Champion S.
at Ascot. The G1 St Leger hero still holds an entry in
the 10-furlong feature, but
following a campaign that has
also seen the colt finish second
in the G1 Investec Derby and
fourth in the G1 Prix de l'Arc de
Triomphe, Varian and owner
Paul Smith feel Kingston Hill
now deserves a winter break.
"Kingston Hill will not run
Kingston Hill
again this season,@ the trainer
Racing Post
commented on his website. AHe
ran a huge race in the Arc to
finish fourth from the widest of draws. He is a horse
with a great constitution, but we feel that this race
comes just too soon after such a big effort in France.
He has done us proud this season, winning the St
Leger, finishing second in the Derby and fourth in the
Arc. He remains in training and we are looking forward
to campaigning him in the big middle-distance races
next year."
BREEDERS’ CUP
BULLETIN
BEHOLDER BREEZES
Two-time Eclipse Award winner Beholder (Henny
Hughes) covered five panels in 1:02.20 Sunday at
Santa Anita in company. AShe worked in the fog, so I
didn=t see it,@ trainer Richard Mandella said. AShe went
real nice, though. She=ll get a bigger work next week,
but she=s in great shape.@ Beholder, who recently won
Santa Anita=s GI Zenyatta S. Sept. 27, is on track for
the GI Breeders= Cup Distaff Oct. 31. She will be
looking for a third straight win on the Championship
card after taking the 2012 GI Juvenile Fillies and last
year=s Distaff.

CHC & STC CREATE SING=S RICHEST RACE
(cont. from p1)
The addition of the 2015 CECF Singapore event will
bolster the STC=s elite calendar of racing, which also
includes the Singapore Airlines International Cup,
Emirates Singapore Derby and Longines Singapore Gold
Cup.
Added Tan Guong Ching, AWe are happy to provide
the Singapore Racecourse as the venue for China Horse
Club to stage the racing highlights of the 2015 CECF
Singapore. It will be a promising day of exciting racing
action with world-class Thoroughbreds competing for
handsome prizemonies. Combined with the traditional
hospitality of the CHC, the festival will deliver a
complete sensory experience to all participants on that
day.@
2014 CECF EVENT CONCLUDES
The two-day 2014 CECF Yangtze Delta Region--the
major social and Thoroughbred racing event for the
China Horse Club (CHC) which promotes Chinese
culture to an elite audience--was held in Shanghai and
Zhejiang this past weekend.
AOur theme for 2014 has been to >Bring the World to
China and China to the World,= we have had nearly 200
chairmen, chairwomen and CEOs at our events and for
a festival like this in China, that is new ground,@ said
Chairman of the China Horse Club Teo Ah Khing.
Sponsors included official partners Longines,
Coolmore, Glenn Family Foundation, Hurun Report,
China Daily (official media partner) and NMTV (official
broadcaster), as well as 20 other sponsors. The 2014
CECF included the CECF Yangtze Delta Gala Dinner, as
well as the Zhejiang Nine Dragons Hill National Jockeys
Challenge, where some of the best young Chinese
jockeys competed.
Guests of note were: Li Xiao Ling, a famous Chinese
contemporary artist; Lin Chi Ling, an actress, model and
Longines ambassador; Louis Romanet, President of the
International Federation of Horseracing Authorities
(IFHA); Dennis Li, President of Longines China; Sinclair
LV, President of Hurun Report; Sir Owen Glenn, CHC
International Advisory Council Member, sponsor and

CECF Even Concludes cont.
AThe 2014 CECF Yangtze Delta Region has been very
well received,@ continued Ah Khing. AOur partners and
sponsors are pleased, our owners have enjoyed two
fantastic events and it is rewarding to hear that.@
The CECF Yangtze Delta Region Gala Dinner involved
traditional as well as contemporary Chinese
performances and a fashion show by top designer
Laurence Xu. Four horse blankets--one for each of the
races at the Zhejian Nine Dragons Hill National Jockeys
Challenge--2014 CECF were designed by Yue Minjun, Li
Xiao Ling, Xu Lei and Peng Wei. There was also an
>Exchange of Documents= between the CHC and STC
which recognized the inaugural international CECF to be
held in Singapore during the Chinese New Year. Eight
Chinese jockeys faced international reignsmen Darryll
Holland and David Flores in the Zhejian Nine Dragons
Hills National Jockey Challenge--2014 CECF, but the
former were victorious sweeping three of the four
contests with only Holland=s performance in the first
race--outfinishing Flores in second--the only loss for the
Chinese. Multiple international racing jurisdictions,
including Racing NSW, STC, Mauritius Turf Club, Irish
Turf Club and France Galop all provided senior staff to
help run the event.
AThis year=s event is another step forward on a
journey to provide wonderful experiences for our
members, partners and sponsors and friends from
across China and abroad,@ concluded Ah Khing. AI
believe it has been a meaningful step forward.@

F-T TEXAS SALE TODAY
The Fasig-Tipton Texas Yearlings and Fall Mixed Sale
will be held Monday in Grand Prairie, with bidding
scheduled to get underway at 11 a.m. The sale begins
with 130 catalogued yearlings, followed by a selection
of broodmares, weanlings and horses in training. There
are a total of 186 lots catalogued. The auction, which
had previously been held during the summer, is making
its first autumn appearance.
AWe have added a little of everything,@ noted Tim
Boyce, Fasig-Tipton=s southwest director of sales.
AThere are yearlings and a weanling from Louisiana and
Oklahoma, a broodmare and two racehorses coming off
wins in their last starts.@
Boyce added, >Between our date change, the positive
landscape for Texas racing, and interest in the sale
from all around the region, we are looking forward to a
big day.@
During last year=s summer sale, 97 yearlings sold for
$1,255,100. The average was $12,939 and the median
was $8,000--both increases from 2012. A pair of fillies
shared the auction=s top price when both sold to Tom
Durant for $65,000 from the Lane=s End Texas
consignment.

Much of the pre-race hype swirled around GI Florida
Derby winner Constitution (Tapit), but at the end of the
1 1/16-mile affair, it was Easter Gift who earned the
victory. While favored Constitution stumbled at the
start, Easter Gift exited the stalls in good order and was
taken to the back of the six-horse field.
MONDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2014
Despite the awkward start, Constitution was hustled
to the front and showed the way through opening splits
of :23.87 and :46.96. Approaching the quarter pole,
the favorite maintained a narrow advantage over a
pesky Spa City Fever, while Easter Gift gradually cut
into the front-runners advantage. Collared by Spa City
Fever at the head of the lane, Constitution tried to repel
a host of challengers, but eventually retreated as Easter
Gift continued to close from the center of the track. In
high gear late, Easter Gift finished a head in front of St
Moose, with Spa City Fever back in third. Constitution
reported home fourth, beaten less than two lengths.
Winner of the GIII Smarty Jones S. at three, Easter Gift
added a score in the Mountainview H. at four before
closing out the season with a third in the GI Clark H. in
November. Eighth after a troubled trip in the July 27
GII Monmouth Cup, Easter Gift was a well-beaten sixth
most recently in the restricted Alydar S. at the Spa

leaving the quarter pole, the bay was fanned out six

Emotional Kitten, twice placed at the highest level
earlier in her career and winner of the GII Mrs. Revere
S. at Churchill Downs last November to end her
sophomore season, has not stepped off the lawn or
outside of graded company all year. She opened her 4year-old account with a good second when wide to
Stormy Lucy (Stormy Atlantic) in the GII Santa Ana S.
at Santa Anita Mar.16, but has not had smooth sailing
since, with four unplaced efforts including a rank
seventh behind Irish Mission (Giant=s Causeway) in the
GIII Glen Falls S. at the Spa Aug. 31 most recently.
Favored to find the winner=s circle for this drop in class,
Emotional Kitten settled against the pine in midfield as
the leader set moderate splits. Going extremely well
while saving all the real estate, she moved within

•
Named director of stallion nominations and sales at
Three Chimneys Farm.
Originally from Epsom, England, Grant has been working in the
Thoroughbred industry for 25 years, and has spent the last 17
working in the United States.
Williamson previously worked at Vinery, where he served as
Stallion Director. He joins Three Chimneys from Adena Springs
where he was responsible for stallion season sales.
“I am thrilled to be joining the team at Three Chimneys at this
exciting time in the farm’s history, and I look forward to welcoming
breeders to see the entire stallion roster, particularly our two
exciting additions, Strong Mandate and Will Take Charge,”
Williamson said. “They are both fantastic looking horses with top
class form and pedigrees, and are ready for viewing. I joined
Three Chimneys because I believe in the stallions, the people, and
the farm’s vision for the future. I’d like to personally invite every
breeder out there to call me or come visit the stallions at their
earliest convenience and give Three Chimneys the opportunity to
earn your business.”

winning rider Elvis Trujillo. AI knew the speed was going

Added winning trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, AThey went

Rathasker Stud in 2015. The 5-year-old was trained by
Clive Cox and posted a record of 51-5-9-5 over four
seasons of racing. Bred by Newhall Ltd, the 22,000gns
Tattersalls yearling and 110,000gns Tattersalls horse of
racing age is a half to G1 Hong Kong Vase winner
Dominant (Ire) (Cacique {Ire}).
AAs a big, handsome colt, who was a high-class
racehorse throughout his career, he showed the
attributes of speed and soundness that the modern
Thoroughbred aspires to,@ commented Maurice Burns of
Rathasker Stud. AHe has the Northern Dancer/Ahonoora
blood cross that has produced the likes of top stallions
Acclamation (GB) (Royal Applause {GB}) and New
Approach (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). We think that he is the
type of stallion that breeders and trainers will love.@
Added Cox, AEs Que Love had a high-cruising speed and
could really change gear. He loved fast ground as he
demonstrated when beating Group 1 winners Toormore
(Ire) (Arakan) and Garswood (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}) in
the Group 2 Lennox S. at Glorious Goodwood. His
temperament and love for racing was there for
everyone to admire.@
Rathasker Stud will sell both nominations and shares
to Es Que Love. A fee will be announced at a later date.

Simply >Divine= in Local Debut:
The Sunday feature at Sha Tin was the 10th and final
race, an apparently innocuous Class 2 over 1400
meters, but the winner should have a major say in
feature races over the coming
months. Divine Calling (Aus)
(Stratum {Aus}) was making his
Hong Kong debut for trainer Tony
Millard, having been conditioned in
Australia by Gai Waterhouse, most
prominently to a victory in last year=s
G2 Stutt S., in which he defeated
subsequent G1 Cox Plate hero
Trainer Tony Millard Shamus Award (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus})
(video). An A$210,000 Magic
HKJC.com
Millions Gold Coast yearling, the son
of MGSW Rubicall (Aus) (Rubiton {Aus}) was runner-up
to Darley=s Long John (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}) in the
2013 G1 Caulfield Guineas--finishing ahead of Shamus
Award in third--but was down the field in the
G1 Coolmore Stud S. and was first-up for 49 weeks
Sunday afternoon. Drawn in one and sent off the 36-10
favorite, Divine Calling was forwardly placed by Zac
Purton while riding the rail and cruised up to the leaders
nearing the final quarter mile. He was eased to the
outside of Beauty Flame (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB})
and Trump (Aus) (Written Tycoon {Ire}) soon after, and
while the former=s rider Matthew Chadwick was all over
his mount, Purton never asked Divine Calling for an
effort and the duo eased to the line an effortless onelength winner (video). Dundonnell (First Defence), the
2012 G3 Acomb S. winner who was exiting a Class 1
win Sept. 21, finished a further 1 1/2 lengths back in
third. According to several post-race reports on social
media, Divine Calling is less likely for the International
Races Dec. 14 and is therefore a candidate for the
4-year-old series commencing with the Hong Kong
Classic Mile Jan. 18. He could use an oft-productive
Class 1 over 1400 meters on the International Races
undercard as a prep for that event.
