Cheadle Parish Church
Those who are blessed,
are called to be a blessing!

Praying for
Cheadle’s renewal
From today until 1st December, all the churches of Cheadle
and Gatley have committed themselves to pray for the
renewal of our own faith and commitment, and to seek God’s
blessing on our community.
It is our conviction that God, on whose grace we depend, calls us to seek him, and when
we do that together, he uses our prayers as a catalyst to change things! 1 in 10 of people
in Cheadle have associations with a local church, nearly 100 times those who belong to
political parties locally, so imagine what God might do if we agree to seek him together!
At the back of church is a simple prayer card, with a
shared prayer and some specific prayer requests for
our church. The idea is simply at some point in each
day, for the next 50 days, to pray through those
requests. Mike Newman is helping coordinate the
initiative, keep up to date on: http://stcuthberts.org/

Learning to live/love Jesus’ way
Rob Munro
When Jesus summed up all that God
desires of us in two commands—to love
God with and in everything and love our
neighbours as ourselves—he set us a
challenge that has radical implications.
Love is the thing that changes the
priorities of a person from self-fulfilment
(the more common motive of our culture)
to self-sacrifice. If you love someone, you
are more bothered about what pleases
them than you are about pleasing yourself.
The challenge to those of us who call
ourselves Christians, is: how is that seen to
be true in us? How do the people we share
our lives with, at work, socially, next-door,
see that we are doing what Jesus says in
loving them. It isn’t always easy, and we
don’t always succeed, which is why Jesus’
message of forgiveness for repentant
sinners (like us) is such good news for us.
However love grows when you start to care
about and think about others more
frequently. It seems to me that the love
Jesus is calling us to grows when we start
to pray for them. When you pray a person,
you are remembering and caring for them!
Sometimes in church we make get
involved in big projects or initiatives, and
call for lots of activity and commitment,
and at times that can be a great way to
make a difference. However the 50 days of
Prayer initiative, that starts today, that
Mike Newman has helped us organise
across all the local Cheadle churches,
simply calls us to
give a moment of
prayer to remember
and care for the
people around us.
That is how Jesus’
lived—he cared
enough to pray and
gave himself in love
to people that most
others didn’t notice.
I hope you will join
in the little thing
that changes
everything!
Yours in His service
Rob

Veil of Tears is a gripping documentary that tells the story of millions of
women who are persecuted for no
other reason than their gender. They
are one of the most disadvantaged,
abused and unreached groups in the entire world.
You may know that in our congregation we have some workers
from Gospel for Asia who are working to help these women. We
will be watching the film together and then Helen White will
share with us about her work for Gospel for Asia and her recent
trip to India.
Please do join us for what will be a real eye opener and a chance
to find out how to support these women and the work that Gospel for Asia are doing.
If you would like to see a trailer for the film you can go

“Host”
Befriend an International Student
“Host” is looking for kind, friendly, hospitable people of all ages
whose imaginations are caught by the idea of welcoming an international student at university here, far from his or her own
family, to their home, for a day, a weekend or at Christmas.
You don’t need to live near a university, as students will travel
for the privilege of meeting you, learning about real life in this
country, and sharing their own culture. HOST is a voluntary
activity which makes ambassadors for international goodwill of
us all.
Please see www.hostuk.org or call Martin Gill 07758 950043.

Almighty God, you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are
restless till they find their rest in you: pour your love into our
hearts and draw us to yourself, and so bring us at last to your
heavenly city where we shall see you face to face; through Jesus
Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in
the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
