Parish Website - www.stpaulshh.org.uk 28th Sunday of the Year (A) Today, through the prophet Isaiah, we hear of a mouth-watering banquet that God provides on his holy mountain. It is for all peoples. It is rich, choice, juicy and pure. So that all peoples can enjoy this banquet, the Lord will destroy death for ever. Jesus also speaks of a banquet, a wedding feast. Unlike the banquet in Isaiah, in which the guests come willingly and celebrate, the guests turn down the invitation. A great chasm is set up between the lavishness of the host (God) and the guests’ refusal to come for some pretty weak excuses. When the first guests refuse to come, God re-issues the invitation to others. The banquet will happen whether we accept or not. Our response, though, is more than a matter of coming to the banquet. Just as the king made the banquet ready by preparing it, so the quests must prepare for the banquet as well. They must come dressed in a wedding garment. All are invited to the banquet but it is not a freebie! Sinners are invited but they must repent of their sinful ways and live good lives. It seems incredible that those invited could refuse to come to such a significant and lavish feast. But we are invited to a feast even more lavish and we too can fail to see its significance and fail to prepare ourselves. Our everyday living is important. All the small things we do are helping us put on our own wedding garment. Our continual conversions from sin prepare us for the feast. And what a feast! Fr Martin BAPTISMS: Welcome to Eleanor, Jake, Leighton and John, who were baptised last week. This weekend we welcome Aiden. SCHOOL ADMISSIONS Fr.
