Youth Group Service Project
Our Youth Group is excited about
participating in the Diocesan Day of Service
on November 8 by playing bingo with our
neighbors at Carrington Place. They also hope
to build a raised garden box for the residents
there. They need some help from parishioners
with carpentry experience to build it. To find

Women’s Conference
Plan to register for the Diocese’s second
annual Women’s Conference on Saturday,
November 8, a day of prayer, learning and
fellowship at the Richmond Convention
Center. The keynote speaker is Sr. Miriam
Holt. Mass and Reconciliation are included.

From The Pastor
Unless you live under a rock, I expect that you've been hearing a lot in the news recently about
potential changes in the Catholic Church. A number of bishops and other Catholic leaders are
meeting at the Vatican right now to plan for next year's synod on the family, and some of their
plans have gotten out to the press. As usual, the secular press is terrible at reporting on the
Church, largely because it refuses to acknowledge the presence and activity of the Holy Spirit.
Furthermore, it makes little effort to study current teaching so as to accurately report what is
changing. My advice: be patient! There are many ideas being contributed right now, and we
should wait to see how many of them stick around and are incorporated into our pastoral practice.
In the meantime, find some responsible Catholic media for informed reporting on the synod and
lots of other issues.
Diocesan Fuel and Hunger Grant
Saint Timothy received our second round
distribution in the amount of $1,605.26 from the
Diocesan Fuel and Hunger Fund. These monies
go to our Human Needs Committee to help with
the many calls we get for assistance with utility
bills, food, prescriptions and occasionally a
place to sleep. The total grant from the diocese
this year was $4,605.26.
Religious Education
Our Religious Education program is now in its
second month of exciting exploration of God's
truth and beauty. Parents are asked to ensure
that all children and youth ages 4 to 18 are
enrolled and actively participating.
Registration is still available for our classes
which meet Sunday mornings, 10:45-11:45am.
Please contact Anne Glancy through the parish
office or stop by St. Jude Hall next Sunday.
All Souls Day Altar
As November approaches, we look forward to
again erecting our "Altar of the Dead" near the
image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Please bring
photos of deceased loved ones to place on the
altar until the beginning of Advent. Additionally,
please write any names of deceased individuals
who you would like remembered at Mass this
month, in our parish Book of the Dead.
Christmas Mother Program
Essex County families in need may apply to
be a part of the Christmas Mother program,
which helps needy families with children
ages 1 through 12 with Christmas gifts.
Applications must be received by October
31. Only Essex County residents may apply.

Adult Faith Formation
Get your coffee and stay in the commons for
these interesting and insightful presentations
from 10:45-11:30 on Sunday mornings. Next
weekend, Arn Manella will introduce some of
our most heroic Catholic military chaplains.
On November 9, Mark Grant will help us mark
the fiftieth anniversary of the promulgation of
the Vatican II document on ecumenism by
exploring the rich Catholic teaching on our
important relationship with other Christians.

Small Faith Groups Beginning
The parish is now prepared to offer an
important tool to grow in holiness. Small
groups will gather to consider the process of
spiritual growth as outlined by some of our
greatest saints including Teresa of Avila, John
of the Cross, Therese of Lisieux, and Bernard
of Clairvaux. The weekly meetings will take
your schedule into account. If interested,

Kermés
Our Hispanic community is organizing a
kermés, a food sale that combines a festive
meal with a fundraiser, for 1:30pm on Sunday,
November 2, in honor of All Souls Day, in St.
Jude Hall. Bring your appetite and a few
dollars! All proceeds go to support our capital
improvements, including the renovation and
expansion of St. Jude Hall. To find out about

All Saints Day
Are you a saint—or perhaps a potential saint?
We all are! For further growth in holiness,
come to Eucharistic adoration and confession
on Saturday, November 1 from 8:00am. Mass
begins at 9:00am, with an opportunity for some
fellowship after.
20th Annual Coat, Sweater, and Blanket
Drive
Please bring new or gently used items to St.
Jude Hall until Sunday, October 26. New
blankets and baby clothes, for children up to
two years of age, are much needed. These
items will be donated to the Tappahannock
Community Center for distribution.
