President’s Pen
It is my pleasure to serve as the 2013-2014 RPKDAC
President. Although I have been a member of this group
for 25 years and served in a variety of positions, this is
my first time as president. I have an amazing group of
women on my Board and after two meetings this
summer, we are off and running with exciting events,
activities and meetings planned for the coming year.
Many of you have heard or seen on our website or
Facebook page that RPKDAC swept the awards at
National Convention in Boston. We walked away with
eight at the Awards Banquet and were honored at the
White Rose Banquet with the coveted Marjorie Rowles
Stakes award for most outstanding alumnae chapter in
the country. What a thrill this was for the ten of us in
attendance there!
brings it about is rewarding, the real joy of being a
member of this alumnae chapter comes from the
wonderful friendships I’ve made with KD sisters I’ve
worked, played, laughed and cried with over the years.
Whether you are a seasoned AC member, a new
college graduate or someone who wants to get
involved with Kappa Delta again, we are excited to
have you as part of our group. No matter if you are
old or young or in-between, Texas-born or a
transplant from a faraway state, married or single,
with or without children, can attend every event or
just one or two a year, we have
something for you.
In AOT,
As I said in my toast to the group afterwards, while
winning awards is exiting and the hard work that
A Faithful Band of Sisters, We
by Meredyth Kippes
Welcome home or welcome back, sisters! In college we would sing songs about our faithful band of
sisters, and the enduring legacy of friendships formed as collegiate sisters in Kappa Delta. RPKDAC invites you to
renew your membership or join us for the first time to continue to strengthen that sisterly bond born under the diamond
shield of Kappa Delta.
We all learned, as new members or pledges in Kappa Delta, that “the object of Kappa Delta Sorority is the
formation and perpetuation of good fellowship, friendship, and sisterly love among its members; the encouragement of
literature and education; the promotion of social interest; and the furtherance of charitable and benevolent purposes.”
RPKDAC is proud to contribute to Kappa Delta Sorority’s continued pursuit of that beautiful object. Come join
us!

(A Faithful Band of Sisters, We, continued from page 1)
RPKDAC’s regular monthly meetings, ladies nights out, and weekend social adventures provide the perfect space to
perpetuate good fellowship, friendship, and sisterly love among our alumnae members. RPKDAC’s membership is
diverse in age, backgrounds, and professions, but as Kappa Delta sisters, we all have one thing in common: that Kappa
Delta spirit of fun and adventure! If you’ve been a member of RPKDAC before, we would love to see you again. If
you’re new to RPKDAC, we’d love to call you, dear sister, our new friend. Come join us!
But membership in RPKDAC is not just social. RPKDAC is active in charitable and community causes in our
area such as Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas, Family Outreach and our annual Shamrock Project. RPKDAC takes
seriously Kappa Delta’s commitment to charitable and benevolent purposes, and we look forward to you bringing your
unique talents, ideas and background to our important efforts to make this world a better place. Come join us!
RPKDAC also provides its members with a springboard to further education and advancement. Whether you
are new to the area, a new college graduate, or starting a new life adventure, RPKDAC’s membership is rich with
professional and personal networking opportunities. We love to help our KD sisters! Come join us!
RPKDAC is committed to Kappa Delta’s purpose to promote true friendship among the college girls of our
society. One way we do that is by actively supporting our local Texas collegiate chapters and members as they begin
their life-long journeys as sisters in Kappa Delta. RPKDAC members serve on Texas collegiate chapters’ CABs, and
RPKDAC also supports local Texas chapters’ recruitment and philanthropic efforts. Working with our collegiate sisters
keeps fresh those first feelings we had that day when the green and white ribbons were pinned to our chests, or that
moment when we first learned the meaning of AOT. Come join us!
Maybe you’re a recent graduate and are not sure whether you’re ready to be in a Kappa Delta alumnae chapter.
We understand – we’ve all been there too – and we want you know that you are welcome here, and we can’t wait to
meet you. And if you have graduated from college within the past year, your membership in RPKDAC is absolutely
free. Come join us!
Finally, RPKDAC takes to heart Kappa Delta Sorority’s creed that each day finds us “truer, wiser, more
faithful, more loving, and more noble.” Nothing shows such enduring character as the faces of our Slightly Older
Sisters (White Rose Circle members). Slightly Older Sisters’ dues in RPKDAC are only $5.00 a year. Come share
your wisdom, wit, and beauty with our younger members. Come join us!
So, dear sisters, new adventures and opportunities await you in RPKDAC! Will you come join us and help us
strive for those honorable, beautiful things? (And have a little fun while you’re at it!) Come join us!

RPKDAC Honored at the National Convention
The Richardon/Plano Kappa Delta Alumnae
Chapter received the Marjorie Rowles Stakes
Award for Excellence
More than 950 Kappa Deltas and
guests attended the 60th Biennial
National Convention in Boston, July
27-July 1 including ten members of
the RPKDAC: Mabsie Bonnick,
Phoebe Chenoweth, Neva Cochran,
Cheryl Connelly, Leanne Justiss,
Libby Lindhal, Margie Lynn, Kristy
McCorkle, Shawna Mullins, and Jan
Pridham.
With the theme Field of Dreams,
attendees were entertained with
baseball-themed programs and
inspired by speakers who dared to
dream big.
The opening session, A League of
Their Own, introduced Kappa Delta’s
starting line-up – the National
Council – who appeared on stage
against a video background showing
them in action on the ball field. On4

These activities were a warm-up to
the recognition of the Kappa Deltas
who were named this year to the
sorority’s most prestigious leagues,
the Order of the Emerald and the
Order of the Pearl. Among the
honorees were RPKDAC members
Phoebe Chenoweth, Neva Cochran,
and Libby Lindahl who were
presented the Order of the Emerald
for displaying extraordinary service
to an alumnae chapter, chapter
advisory board, house corporation,
Panhellenic, and/or state or National
Kappa Delta. Recipients of the Order
of the Emerald exhibit selfless
devotion to the sorority. Allison

alumna who has achieved
prominence at the national, state, or
local level in areas other than service
specifically to Kappa Delta. The
Order of the Pearl exemplify the
ideals of the sorority in every way.
Both Neva Cochran and Phoebe
Chenowith received the Order of the
Pearl in previous years.
A highlight of every National
Convention is the presentation of
collegiate and alumnae chapter
awards. The Awards Banquet on
Saturday evening revealed the
chapters in contention for the top
awards that were announced during
the White Rose Banquet on Sunday.

Members of our group have been busy
since April writing Recommendations
and Letters of Support for potential new
members. Kathy Terry has continued to
oversee the Plano PNMs while I oversee
the Richardson schools.
Two important changes have come about
this year. First, online submission has
become more prevalent. Most Chapter
Websites refer you to an online
submission form. Furthermore, we are
hearing from Chapter Rush Chairmen
that they, not only prefer online
recommendation submission, but plan to
exclusively use it in the future. It is
very easy to maneuver through the
process.
Secondly, there is a new recommendation
form which you may have seen on line or
in The Angelos. Unique to the new form
is a space at the bottom which asks which
Alumnae
Organization
the
recommendation writer is a member. We
are hoping that this will cause the
recommendation provider to take note of
the importance in being a member of an
alumnae group; and furthermore, that

honor, the Marjorie Rowles Stakes
Award for Excellence, which is given
to the most outstanding Kappa Delta
alumnae chapter in the nation. With
more than 515 chartered alumnae
chapters across the country, this
award is a remarkable honor for the
chapter and its members. This year
marks the second time the
Richardson/Plano chapter has won
this particular award.

These homes allow economic and AIDS

truly amazing. I want to encourage any
high school aged student to apply to SStS. You will participate in such a valuable
learning opportunity. Allison
