HadlowTower Steels the Show
The window renovation work on Grade I listed Hadlow Tower in Kent, has been undertaken by
Steel Window Association member, The Cotswold Casement Company, which manufactured 84
replacement steel windows and refurbished nine existing windows.
Hadlow Tower was built in 1838 and only minimal maintenance had been carried out to the octagonal Gothic
Revival structure during its life. Those steel windows which could be salvaged were carefully removed to be shot blasted
and fully refurbished.
Each window was slightly different and 68 of the steel windows had either shaped heads or
glazing above fitted directly into the intricate stonework. Templates were taken of each and because
of the complexity of the shapes, the glazed sections were laser cut. Due to the building’s listed status,
single glazing was used throughout; two windows were glazed with leaded lights manufactured
using Polish Cordele glass while the remainder were of laminated glass as much of the glazing runs
past staircases or is otherwise vulnerable.
To make steel windows to match the sightlines of the originals, the Cotswold Casement Company
employed a combination of standard steel profiles and for some of the larger windows, a variety of
sections from the W20 steel window range. The steel was galvanized and then powder coated black.

NFA Awards Newly Sponsored
Liniar has been announced as sponsor of the National Fenestration Awards Cool Wall – the place where
installers, fabricators and systems companies nationwide can show off their work by uploading images online.
The scheme is run as part of the National Fenestration Awards and votes are cast online by people actively working
within and engaged with the industry. This results in one winner being declared each month – with an overall winner
announced at the end of the year.
Liniar will be the sole Cool Wall sponsor for the next two years and hopes to encourage its fabricators and installers
to enter their own images in the contest to demonstrate the high quality of the work they carry out each day. Marketing Director Sue Davenport explains: “The Cool Wall is a great way to
showcase some of the gorgeous work we know installers are proud of –
and as it’s online, it’s easy to vote for a winner. The sponsorship agreement will see Liniar increase its online presence and we look forward
to working more closely with the NFA to maximise the potential of this
opportunity.” Submit a photo at

Kenrick’s Standard Euro profile has been successfully
tested in accordance with BS EN 1303:2005 by Exova
in Warrington. The cylinder comfortably achieved 100,000
operations during cycle testing and attained a premium result for
corrosion resistance with a 96 hour salt spray test rating. It also
achieved an overall grade 3 for key related security.
Steve Jones, MD at Kenrick, says: “We’re delighted that our
Standard cylinder has passed this testing, which underlines the
quality and durability of this product. Sales volumes of our cylinders have been excellent this year and there is no sign of this slowing down. This accreditation, together with the amount of choice
this range offers, really delivers value for money to a demanding
marketplace.”
There are more than 80 cylinders in Kenrick’s collection, which
spans three levels of security – Standard, Security and High
Security. i kenricks.co.uk
ScreenLine
integral
blind fabricator
Morley
Glass and
Glazing
has hosted
a two-day
visit by the
blind system manufacturer’s commercial director,
plus four major Italian customers, who came to the
UK on a fact finding mission.
The Italian delegation which was hosted by MD Ian Short, spent
two days with Morley Glass at its central Leeds factory and HQ
exploring how they could implement some of the manufacturing
processes and marketing approaches that have underpinned the
company’s market position.
But it is not just Italian customers who are looking to Morley
Glass for best practice – Ian Short has also been to Germany to
share his expertise with customers there.
Speaking during his visit, Alessandro Pellini said: “Morley Glass
has an excellent track record in the manufacture and supply of
ScreenLine blinds which we believe our other European customers
can learn from and deploy new ideas, together strengthening
ScreenLine’s global brand.” i morleyglass.co.uk
Solidor has expanded it’s slab only service for fabricators and door manufacturers, with the offering of a complete range of door designs, 17 through
colours inside and out, ODL TriSYS cassettes, glazing, hardware and accessories all delivered nationwide in 3-5 days.
The company believes the latest expanded offering will entice more manufacturers to make the change to a composite door slab that’s produced in
the UK with a solid, hardwood core.
Solidor claims its slab is 10% thicker than the standard imported ones from
the Far East and is suited to a standard door outer frame from the likes of
Kömmerling, Deceuninck, Rehau, Spectus, Swish, Synseal and VEKA among
many other leading systems in the UK. For fabricators it’s a benefit to be
able to use a standard door outer frame and so there’s no issue of additional
stockholding for a dedicated composite door frame in white, plus all of the
colour options, says the company. i solidor.co.uk

Since it was unveiled at this year's FIT Show, The
VEKA UK Group's Approved Installer initiative has
already welcomed over 100 members onto its
books. The key aim of the scheme is to assist installers with selling VEKA and Halo products and there are a whole host of tools
to assist them. These include valuable sales leads from a dedicated consumer-facing website and access to exclusive, professionally-designed marketing materials. Add into this that it’s free
of charge to become an Approved Installer and it's easy to see
why the uptake has been so immediate! In addition to the first
100 Approved Installers, there are also around 40 Approved
Fabricators who are now eligible to approve their installer customers. Key to the Approved Installer marketing support offering
are the online Marketing Hubs, where users can access a wide
range of marketing templates for items such as drop cards, retail
brochures, pop-up stands and more. All of the items can be personalised at the click of a button and are preloaded to display
the installer’s full contact details, with their branding taking centre stage, supported by the Approved logo. i

Technal’s Soleal single and double leaf rebated door
– in both open-in and open-out configurations – surpassed the PAS 24 standard and achieved consistently excellent test results with very minimal
enhancements to the fixing of the hinges, striker and
lock. The locking system for the Soleal door has, as standard,
a half-turn deadbolt, roller lock and deadbolt, a two-point cylinder lock and a two-point lock with a square spindle.
For enhanced security, the door also has multi-point locking.
Hook lock or top and bottom shoot bolts for doors over 2.25m
high can also be supplied. Additional locking points can be
added according to project requirements.
The single leaf open-in and open-out hinged doors already
meet very high levels of security
in accordance with Class RC3
for burglar resistance to BS EN
1627-30. As an alternative to
key-operated locks, there is an
electro-magnetic system using
an integrated control pad within
the frame.
The Soleal door suite has
been specifically developed for
areas of heavy use, such as
apartment buildings, social
housing developments, hospitals, shopping and sports centres, offices and schools. i
