This inscription proclaims the Lateran Basilica’s pre-eminence as cathedral church of the bishop of Rome, the pope. Our “communion,” our unity in faith, as a diocese and parish with the Church of Rome and with the worldwide Catholic Church prompts the celebration of today’s dedication anniversary (original church 324; rebuilt 1726) in every Roman Catholic place of worship throughout the world, from grandest cathedral to remotest mission. The water Ezekiel sees is, of course, God’s creation and gift. But its life-giving streams flow from the temple (through the Church) to rejuvenate a parched earth whose fountains of wisdom, life, hope, and love have stagnated. “Wherever the river flows,” trees blossom with nourishing fruit and healing leaves, recalling the Church’s long service as God’s instrument in every corner of the world, and our baptismal challenge to become “the temple of God.” We are such “living temples” because Jesus is God’s temple, raising up those baptized into his death. Thus, while we honor our churches as “sacred spaces” dedicated to the worship of God and service of neighbor, the living Church is the holy people of God (Compendium, 153–160). Since November’s liturgy recalls Christ’s coming as judge, his cleansing of the temple is an appropriate Gospel today, reminding us of our continual need of purification, lest we become a “marketplace” cluttered with the traffic of worldly profit and gain, rather than the holy dwelling place of God’s Spirit. Fr. Gérard J.S. Paluch PRAYER OF THE WEEK Almighty God, we seek to worship you in spirit and in truth. Hear these our prayers and graciously grant them through Jesus Christ our Lord. QUESTION OF THE WEEK How do I edify others (“edify” from the Latin “to build”) by my witness as a “living stone” fitted into the structure of God’s holy temple, the Church? Continue to let resound today Your sweet invitation: "Come and follow me." Grant to young men and young women the grace of responding promptly to Your voice. Sustain our bishops, priests and consecrated souls in their apostolic work. Give perseverance to our seminarians and to all those who are fulfilling an ideal of a life of total consecration to Your service. Enkindle in our communities a missionary zeal. Send Lord, workers into Your fields and do not let mankind be lost because of a lack of pastors, missionaries and people dedicated to the cause of the Gospel. Mary, Mother of the Church, Model of Vocations, help us say "Yes to the Lord Who calls us to collaborate in the Divine Design of Salvation." Amen. ~ Pope John Paul II ~ “Have you remembered St. John Eudes Church in your will or trust?” Page Four Saint John Eudes November 9, 2014 RCIA YOUTH MINISTRY A Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults Year 2 Confirmation November 12th 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Grill Hall November 18th 6:30 – 8 p.m. Montal Hall I have called you; you are mine, Isaiah 43:1 Are you feeling called to deeper faith?
