PART-TIME ABENDSCHULE SUPERVISOR (AFTER-SCHOOL CLUB) Required from 23rd February 2015 Founded in 604AD, King’s Rochester is an independent co-educational school. The School, which is divided into Senior, Preparatory and Pre-Preparatory School departments, has a total of around 640 pupils between the ages of 3 and 18 years. The School enjoys an almost idyllic setting within the heart of historic Rochester. The buildings, many of which are listed, occupy a widespread campus set around the castle and Cathedral. King’s is a Christian School which is part of the Cathedral Foundation. The Pre-Preparatory School is housed in a modern purpose-built state of the art building, Chadlington House. The school operates under an Executive Board, led by Mr Jeremy Walker as Principal of King’s. The Headmistress of the Pre-Preparatory School, Mrs Sarah Skillern reports through him to the Governors and has authority for the Pre-Preparatory School delegated through him. The Pre-Preparatory School has around 130 boys and girls (in Reception Year, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3) and a Nursery of approximately 20-30 children (attending on a sessional basis). Due to the retirement of the current post holder, we are seeking to appoint an Abendschule Supervisor from 23rd February 2015 to lead the existing team of Abendschule assistants (two in attendance each day) and pupils in our after-school play and care club for 3-8 year olds. The post is initially offered as a term-time only role, Monday to Friday 3.10pm-5.40pm, although there is a strong possibility that daily hours may increase in the future, and/or an increased age-range may be enabled to access the club. Previous experience in a similar setting, or in education e.g. as a Teaching Assistant, will be an advantage. The ability to work well as part of a team and to lead provision in this supervisory role are essential. Abendschule takes place in a school building on-site‘Rookwood’, which has 3 separate playrooms, a large playground, and kitchen area. Snacks of fruit and biscuits are served to the children on a daily basis. The attached ‘Job Description’ explains in detail the duties and responsibilities of the Abendschule Supervisor. Recent relevant experience and current salary will be taken into account when considering an offer of hourly rate of pay; this will be advised at interview. Job Purpose To lead the Abendschule team of staff and ensure high quality supervision, play guidance and care for pupils is provided at the end of the school day, appropriate to the children’s age and stage of development. Duties 1. To lead activities and supervise play at the agreed times Monday to Friday, providing a friendly, safe, caring and enjoyable environment conducive to pupil wellbeing. 2. To ensure all daily routines are adhered to. 3. To support children in self-care tasks, such as putting on and taking off coats for outdoor play, and washing hands/cleaning self after visiting the toilet. 4. To plan, organise and carry out activities supported by the Abendschule staff. 5. To supervise and direct assistants. 6. To monitor and order relevant equipment required within the yearly budget. 7. To maintain an up-to-date register of pupil attendance. 8. To assist in keeping a safe, clean and tidy club area. 9. To ensure all Pre-Preparatory School, and whole School policies and procedures are adhered to and implemented. 10. To keep abreast of current issues and attend training as necessary. 11. To respect confidentiality in the setting. 12. Contribute to and participate in meetings/activities, outside working hours on an occasional basis, if necessary and if reasonable notice has been given. 13. To remain on site for up to 10 minutes at the close of Abendschule to ensure that all children have safely left the premises, the buildings are left secure and the play/work spaces tidy. 14. To arrange for the playgrounds to be supervised. 15. To take responsibilities of Building Incident Controller in Rookwood House during Emergency Procedures e.g fire evacuation (from 3.45 p.m. to 5.50 p.m.) 16. To prepare, clear away and wash up the children's beakers and plates at snack-time, as appropriate. 17. To ensure snacks are supervised, nurturing good manners and social skills. 18. To communicate with parents and other visitors in a calm, friendly and efficient manner, passing on any concerns or requested information to the appropriate person in school.
