Why Case Studies?
Companies need to adopt effective CSR communication strategies and process
documentation which directly or indirectly improve better communication
across all stakeholders resulting in better branding and recognition.
‘Case study’ derives its origin from the Latin word ‘Casus’ and refers to a
natural existing phenomenon since the case itself exists before and after the
study is accomplished. Preparing a case study implies studying things as they
naturally appear without any artificial changes. Focusing more on researching
relations rather than results; qualitative research investigates fewer units, but
more intensely. The aim of a case study is to get access to ‘the precise
description or reconstruction of a case’ (Flick, 2006).
There are some excellent initiatives being undertaken by some of the major
companies or industry units. These compare well with those of the best in other
parts of the country. While there is need to compliment and reward those who
are actively CSR savvy, there is greater need to inculcate confidence in the
society that the company does not only care for business but also believes in
the exaltation, empowerment and amelioration of the society around it.

How to Design the Case Study?
When writing a case study (CS) on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects or
initiatives, the CSR leaders should proceed in 3 steps to accomplish it. The first and
foremost step is effective planning, on how to design the case study. The second step is to
compile relevant information and elaborating the process and practices. The third and final
step is to consolidate and strengthen the facts with analysis and evidence based success
stories.
Total Frame Work of III Steps Are:
I- Introduction
-
Covered history of the area, why adopted new approaches.
Planning-how adopted the social approaches, who have
involved mainly key persons.
II- Implementation
-
Design with the stakeholder and accomplished, participatory
approaches (if used), socio-economic base, process flow chart
with chronological method, how to get/achieved goal with
details of challenges and time frame achievement,
methodology (all methods should be appeared in CS).
III- Outcome
-

documentary evidence (hard and soft), financial involvement
and profit in terms society and economy, summing-up note and

Guidelines for Writing

describe the social challenges or problems or issues; next, describe
the mitigations to this problem or issue and finally, describe on how
the society benefitted from the particular mitigation strategy (more

readers. The narration style must adopt indirect form of speech.

Tips for Writing an Excellent Case Study
Give yourself plenty of time.
Take your time to complete them. Make sure to get them in on time as there will be no extensions, no
exceptions.
Write clearly and concisely.
Remember that the judging panel will read many case study/ applications so getting your point across in a
clear and succinct manner is vital. Avoid jargon.
Write what is important and relevant.
Make sure to mention that are important and relevant without going off on a tangent. Strictly follow the
specified word counts/limit.
Facts are king.
If you have evidence, statistics or results that back up your story, use them! Statements showing
deliverables achieved rather than plans for future delivery have much more credibility.
Wider CSR agenda.
Outlining how your project fits in with your company's CSR agenda is the judging panel's only insight into
the general CSR ethos and strategy of the company. Be careful to make a clear connection between the
project you are entering and the company's overall CSR strategy.
Proof read.
Remember to carefully proof read your case study for silly mistakes. It's often
a good idea to get someone outside of the project to read the case study, if they don't understand it, there's
a good chance the judges won't either.
Never assume.
Never assume that the judging panel knows everything about your business or CSR projects . It's your job to
make sure that your case study can proof its uniqueness.
