Main St. Burkesville, KY 42717 (270) 459-2727 * [email protected] CLASS DESCRIPTIONS MUSIC Guitar - Learn the basics of playing, the history, and the fun of the guitar. Storybook Alive: Music - We will bring stories to life when we find as many ways as possible to bring breath and sound to some of the most well known and beloved children’s stories. Piano - For beginning students that wish to learn how to play piano. General Music and Rhythm - In this class, we will learn about the basics of how to make music and how to read music through activities and games. Choir - Join your voice with other voices to learn how to create harmonies singing contemporary and classical music. Junkyard Jamboree – You think an instrument has to be made out of one material? Think again! We will make instruments using everything from cardboard to PVC pipe! Each camper gets to keep whatever they make. Sound Lab: Create all kinds of different sound effects for plays, videos or just for fun. (Students who have access to either GarageBand or Audacity should bring whatever they have for Sound Lab.) DANCE Ballet – The origin of all types of dance. Learn proper technique and poise. Tap – Make noise by using your feet to create rhythmic patterns to upbeat music. Jazz – A combination of many dance styles and techniques utilizing modern music. (This has no relation to Jazz music). Cultural Dance – Experience different cultures around the world through the art of dance. New Cultures this year! Hip-Hop - Designed to keep the body moving through quick moves and an upbeat rhythm to obtain a better understanding of the hip-hop form of dance. Dance Performance – Learn proper makeup and hair techniques along with costumes. THEATER Drama Basics - Learn the basics of the stage, acting, and choose either a monologue or a group scene to memorize and perform. Advanced Acting – Act out a scene with your classmates by playing a role that will stretch you as an actor and challenge your acting abilities. (Prerequisite: Drama Basics) Musical Theater – Learn to incorporate singing, acting and dance together in a group performance. Stage Make-Up: Around The World – Apply stage makeup in order to characterize different societies and cultures. Basic Stage Make-Up: Learn how to apply basic stage makeup including animal, old age, and wounds. Comedy Of The Craft – Learn about Commedia Dell’arte, a 16th century Italian mask theatre, which is known for it’s characterized roles and improvised scenes. Create masks based on the character you choose, and engage in scenes as your character. (IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT STUDENTS ENROLL IN COMEDY OF THE CRAFT: VISUAL ARTS ALSO.) Stage Fighting and Falling: Learn the basics of stage fighting with a partner and choreograph your own basic stage fight to perform. Auditioning - Prepare a solid audition and learn important tips for catching a director’s eye. Behind The Scenes - Learn about the jobs offstage and how they make a show possible. Improvisation – Learn how to make up a scene and act without a script by playing games that require improvisation skills. Storybook Alive: Theatre Arts - Learn how to interpret a story and make it your own. VISUAL ARTS Painting – This course will introduce effective methods in painting including, color mixing, brush work, and compositional study with acrylic and watercolor. We will be exploring painting representational forms and non-representational ideas. Photography - The word photography means to paint with light. This course is designed to teach effective photo composition and fundamental photo editing skills. We will be be focusing on capturing a variety of images that develop a body of work. Drawing – This class is geared towards learning basic drawing techniques in still-life and landscapes. We will mostly be working on new and adventurous forms of self expression and visual communication with traditional and non-traditional media. Sculpture – This course explores the ability to create creative three-dimensional sculptures using a range of tools and materials. We will be focusing on visual communication, form and craftsmanship. Storybook Alive: Set and Prop Design – Scenic design, or set design, will be a group project effort to design and construct a theatrical environment that we will interact with. We will discuss setting and theme along with color pallets and basic design techniques. Then we are going to become the actors and actress in our own creation. *Comedy Of The Craft: Visual Arts – This class is a collaboration course in visual art and drama. We will be designing masks to be used in a dramatization that reflects the different purposes of mask making in ancient cultures, and what masks can convey in today's society. (IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT STUDENTS ENROLL IN COMEDY OF THE CRAFT: THEATRE ARTS ALSO.) OPTIONAL EXTRA - Does NOT Count As One Of Six Choices (3:00 PM – 5:00 PM) – Additional $40 (cost includes all food and supplies) Culinary – If you are interested in classical culinary technique as an art form, then this is the class for you! Learn how to create gourmet cuisine from scratch, including how to make homemade versions of everyday favorites. Students will also be exposed to basic hospitality and food presentation.
