117th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence
TO:
Schools Division Superintendents
School Heads Elementary and Secondary Schools

This region
1.
Pursuant to DepED unnumbered memorandum entitled 117th Anniversary of
the Proclamation of Philippine Independence, this office is directing all schools
division offices through the Special Events Units and/or Culture and Arts Office to
give full support and spearhead the celebration.
2.
This year’s celebration aims to:
a. commemorate the heroism, patriotism, nationalism and selfsacrifice of our forefathers in the struggle for independence;
b. instill in the heart and minds of the youth the greatness of the
Filipino race, the legacy of their national heroes and the ideals of
their nationhood; and
c. show unity and strength during the challenging times.
3.
To commemorate the 117th Anniversary of the Battle of Alapan and the
National Flag Day, the following activities are suggested to be undertaken by the
schools:
a. Display and raise the Flag from May 18-June 30, 2015;
b. Flag Raising and Wreath-Laying rites in honor of the national and
local heroes on May 18, 2015;
c. Civic parade;
d. Flag reverence and advocacy activities;
e. Cultural presentations;
f. Classroom discussions on the significant events in history which
led to the Proclamation of Philippine Independence especially in
Araling
Panlipunan,
English,
Filipino,
Edukasyon
sa
Pagpapakatao and Music and Arts, Physical Education and
Health; and
g. Other creative and fitting activities

All DepED officials, teachers and students at the regional, division and
school levels are encouraged to actively participate in the scheduled activities
especially in the Simultaneous Flag Raising and Wreath-Laying Ceremonies on
June 12, 2015 at the local historical site and venue.

Teachers who will attend the activity scheduled on weekends (Saturday and
/or Sunday) or holidays will be given one (1) day service credit depending on the
number of weekends/holidays the activity falls on (DepED Order No. 53, s. 2003
“Updated Guidelines on Grant of Vacation Service Credits to Teachers Item 1.d.k.;
and DepED Order No. 84, s. 2003 “Addendum to DepED Order No. 53, s. 2003).
6.
Expenses on travel, meals, communication, documentation, supplies,
production materials such as flyers, tarpaulin and other incidental expenses shall
be charged to local funds subject to the usual accounting and auditing rules and
regulations.
7.
All SEU and Culture and Arts coordinators are requested to submit Division
Consolidated Reports to the Regional Office through email address
[email protected] on or before June 16, 2015. The Regional Office will submit
consolidated accomplishment reports to the Office of Undersecretary for External
Linkages and Partnership.
