The Toledo Fair Housing Center celebrates 40 years on April 18. To commemorate the anniversary, Fair Housing will
host a civil-rights march and mural dedication April 18 at 11 a.m. Marchers will begin at Robinwood Avenue and Islington Street
and will end at Delaware Avenue and Collingwood Boulevard. There they will dedicate a mural of Martin Luther King, Jr., created
by local artist Yusuf Lateef, in partnership with Arts Corner Toledo.
The sixth annual Toledo Sister Cities International Festival will be held on Saturday, April 18th, 2015 in the
Student Union at the University of Toledo. A full range of cultures and performances will be featured from 12 noon until 8:00 pm.

Take Back the Night
The Rev. Cedric Brock, the ministerial alliance’s president, said he is working with Partners Empowering
Community Safety, which he organized, and the community to host an event at Scott High School following the Fair Housing
march to provide another alternative activity on that day. Pastor Brock, who was present at Fair Housing’s conference Friday,
said organizers will meet Tuesday to plan the event.
Artomatic 419!
Event dates: April 11, 18 & 25, 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. One Lake Erie Center, 600 Jefferson Ave., Toledo
April 16 & 19, 12 – 5 p.m.
Artomatic 419! is the region’s largest non-juried, multi-media arts event. Held every-other year, the 2013 event saw more than
800 visual, performing, and literary artists participate, and nearly 12,000 people attend over the course of three consecutive
Saturdays. Artomatic 419! seeks to activate under-utilized space and the local arts community by enlivening buildings in and
around downtown Toledo with art, music, poetry, dance, and more. Artomatic 419! is open to any Toledo-area artist on a firstcome, first-served basis. Artomatic 419! 2015 will take place at One Lake Erie Center in the former Lamson’s Department Store
Building. All Toledo-area artists are encouraged to sign up to take part in this community event. Artomatic 419! is presented by
The Arts Commission in partnership with the local arts community. More than 100 volunteers pull together to make the event a

Artomatic 419! is a program of The Arts Commission’s Live Work Create Toledo initiative, embracing economic development and
revitalization through the arts.
Tina Scott, a Block Watch leader for West Toledo’s Willys Park neighborhood, said she wants to hold a
field day or similar community event April 18.
She’d like to see a moment of togetherness coordinated at the time the National Socialists plan to rally. She’s invited her
neighbors to the park, and is coordinating a larger event for the whole community. “Come out, hug your neighbor, shake one
another’s hand,” she said. “Show them the people in Toledo can live in peace.”
At a recent Willys Park Block Watch meeting, Toledo police Chief George Kral asked attendees not to engage with the neo-Nazi
group, telling them: “You are too smart to fall for this again.”
The following day is 419 Day, a day to show love for northwest Ohio.

Festivities surrounding 419 Day — April 19, or 4/19, derived from Toledo’s traditional telephone area code — will not be
deterred, said several groups involved with the event.
The pop-up indie art fair Maker’s Mart, hosted by Handmade Toledo on Adams Street in UpTown, will go on as planned on both
days that weekend, said Handmade Toledo owner Jessica Crossfield.
