Beethoven
& Bar-B-Que Picnic a Huge Success!!!
This year’s Beethoven & Bar-B-Que Picnic was a great success with over 200
guests and 13 sponsor tables. Partners In Education’s Board President, Mark
Rasmus, was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening and gave a big thank
you to our sponsors and all of those in attendance. Guests enjoyed a variety of
food and beverages while listening to the soothing, yet powerful music played
by The Toledo Symphony. Delicious food was provided by Shorty’s Bar-BQue and a Partners In Education 15-year anniversary cake was enjoyed by all.
Faculty in the Workplace
This year’s FIW program included 23 teachers from
TPS schools. For one week they went out into the
workplace and got a taste of what it’s like to work in
their field of interest. Participants thoroughly enjoyed
this unique experience and have gained first-hand
knowledge which has benefited the teachers and
ultimately their students. One teacher states that they
had a “great experience and learned things I took for
granted.” The Faculty in the Workplace program
not only benefits teachers, but also the organizations
involved. A representative of the Toledo Lucas County
Public Library says: “We love being able to spend
time with teachers one-on-one and sharing what we
know they can use at the library.”

The Odyssey Internship Program has taken a big leap
this past year. Partners has worked with over 30 seniors
from Woodward and Scott High Schools to place them
with area businesses. Students thoroughly enjoyed their
internships and will take these experiences with them to
their future employers. Such internships have supported
students, providing knowledge and encouragement needed
to suceed in throughout college and their careers. One
student expressed, “I learned how to go outside my box
and communicate.” Partners is looking forward to this
upcoming year and hopes to incorporate other high schools.
Andrea Staebell is the staff coordinator for this program.
Principal Business Mentor
This year’s Principal Business Mentor program paired sixteen principals with leaders of the Toledo community.
This program was sponsored by the Toledo Association of Administrative Personnel, the AT&T Foundation and The
First Energy Foundation. One business mentor states that the experience was very eye-opening, and he gained a
“greater understanding of the challenges facing principals.” Speakers discussing the theme of, “Customer Service”
included Dick Anderson, CEO of The Andersons, Inc.; Jim Haudan, President and CEO of Root Learning; Chuck
Stocking, President and CEO of Principle Business Enterprises; Kevin Sauder, President and CEO of Sauder
Woodworking Co.; and a panel of Toledo area media personnel sharing their expertise with participants.
