Freight with big volume
Odd Eidvind Gabrielsen, Regional Director
Bjørn Heiberg, Quality Controller
For Norway’s leading transport company,
Nor-Cargo, revenue protection is a core
philosophy driving their business. With a
global network of over 90 locations and a
turnover of 350 million Euros in 2004,
Nor-Cargo requires accurate billing procedures based on real costs and not on estimations. The purchase of Cargoscanners
from METTLER TOLEDO Cargoscan has
made this possible.
A growing trend in the transport and
logistics industry reveals that increasingly planes, vehicles and containers
max out on volume before they reach
their weight limitations. As such, the
ability to capture both weight and volume of parcels is a growing requirement
in the cost and billing structure for
firms. Nor-Cargo’s purchase of Cargoscanner ensures that their customers are
correctly billed based on the actual
expenses incurred for each shipment.
“We see that we are continuously confronted on this matter. Especially
because we have customers with freight
that doesn’t show much weight, but that
is big in volume,” says Odd Eivind
Gabrielsen, Regional Director of Region
East. With over 30 years of experience in
the business Mr. Gabrielsen knows his
customers well. “We are also leaning
toward an increase in the number of
shipments and especially shipments of
end products with multiple choices in
accessories and design, instead of raw
material. This is of course a challenge,
especially for measuring volume.”
New dimensioning solution
For many years now, Nor-Cargo has successfully used three CS5000 measuring
frames in their operations, providing an
invaluable tool to ensure that the weight
and volume of approximately 10,000
parcels shipped daily are captured accurately and quickly. The latest investment
in dimensioning equipment from
METTLER TOLEDO Cargoscan is the
CS9000 in-motion data capture solution, which has a capacity of approximately 3000 parcels per hour. According
to Bjørn Heiberg, Quality Controller at
Nor-Cargo, it is important that they continue to insure that freight costs are calculated accurately in accordance to a
parcels actual weight and dimensions.
Nor-Cargo’s trust in the OIML certified
Cargoscanners provides the firm with a
non-intrusive tool to transfer, in realtime, captured parcel information to
their internal data system.
Future prospects
On the horizon there are exciting projects between Nor-Cargo and METTLER
TOLEDO Cargoscan with the deployment
of Cargoscan CSS510 pallet measuring
solution. This is a customer-specific solution where Nor-Cargo has been included in the development from the very
start. “We are very excited. METTLER
TOLEDO Cargoscan will have to prove
that they are the supplier that we expect
them to be, but I’m convinced that the
new pallet checker will be a success. We
have always perceived METTLER
TOLEDO Cargoscan as a reliable supplier, easy to cooperate with and always
with the goal of delivering the best product,” says Bjørn Heiberg.
