Quality Control throughout the production process
Metal & Electronic On site Quality Control throughout the production process Saddier Décolletage, Saint André de Boëge, France was established in 1946. This family-run company, based in the Haute-Savoie region, is located right next to "Technology Valley". The plant employs approximately forty people and has a turnover of over five million Euros, of which 35% represents exports throughout Europe. Its modern and diverse range of machines, enables Saddier Décolletage to process many materials, including steel, brass, aluminum and stainless steel, with a diameter ranging from 12 to 57mm. The production tools used, such as multiple-spindle lathes, CNC and transfer machines, are particularly suitable for medium and large-scale production. The workshops are controlled by the PPS, which is responsible for scheduling and production planning for producing 700 models and over 24 million items each year. Saddier Décolletage produces metal components for numerous applications, within the domestic appliance, construction, sport and automotive industries, representing the majority of the company's sales. The automotive industry has stringent quality guidelines in place and, therefore, makes specific demands A modern production site - over 5000m2 of suppliers for consistent quality. As a second tier automotive parts manufacturer, Saddier Décolletage has always implemented a quality assurance procedure and obtained relevant accreditation, such as ISO9001 certification. Using networked measurement points, which are suitable for large-scale series production, the instruments are connected and information collected is stored in a central database. Quality control is achieved through material certification, machine capability, realtime test certificates, etc., and is implemented throughout the production process. Saddier Décolletage has also adopted the traceability standards of the automotive industry, and in addition has recently upgraded its weighing station, counting station and label printing solutions to conform with Galia traceability requirements. To meet these requirements, Saddier Décolletage uses an ID7Sys weighing indicator connected to 60kg and 1500kg weighing platforms. To count small items, it is necessary to create a reference with a few items, these items are accurately weighed using a Viper balance. METTLER TOLEDO software was developed to enable the indicator to transmit the information to print the Galia barcode labels: product number and type, The reference is created on a precision balance. batch number, date, number of items, supplier reference, gross weight, etc. As the article database is stored on the ID7 indicator, local data processing is no longer required, all information is transferred directly to the printer by the special software. This new system brings considerable improvements to operator work stations, optimising the space available and time taken as delivery notes are now printed while the items are being packed in boxes. In addition to speeding up the processes, it prevents items being mixed up and ensures an even higher level of performance. Saddier Décolletage implements quality assurance procedures in order to enhance its competitive edge and respond to customer requirements. The next step for the company is to obtain ISO14000 certification for the site and certification for the ISO/TS16949 automotive standard. 4www.saddier.com 4www.mt.com/themag Counting and packaging station for items with Galia label printing Box 11 16 METTLER TOLEDO IndMagazine 2/2005
