The Columbus North boys lead the Conference Indiana all-sports standings through the fall sports season. Paul Ferguson takes the reins as head coach and inherits a team that returns one full-time starter in junior Alex King, senior Mitchell Kelley as a varsity regular and a number of players who saw some varsity time during last season’s 16-8 campaign. King, a 6-7 forward, averaged 5.3 points and 4.0 rebounds while contributing to a 2014-15 squad that featured four players who picked up diplomas in June – Josh Speidel, Kooper Glick, Trent Larson and Vince Grana. Speidel averaged 25.6 and 9.3 rebounds prior to a severe injury in a Feb. 1 auto accident, while Glick added 16.8 points and 5.8 rebounds. Larson tallied 15.1 points and 2.9 rebounds, while Grana produced 4.8 points and 2.1 rebounds. Kelley, a 6-1 forward, contributed off the bench for most of the season but became a starter after the injury to Speidel. Juniors Nathan VanDeventer and Stephon Peters-Smith as well as sophomores Trey Vincent, Jaylen Flemmons and J.D. Harris all saw varsity action. Seniors Alex Algee and Drew Schoeberl, juniors Zach Green and Ethan Mitchell, and sophomore Bailey Hester also may TEAM LEADER: Junior Alex King averaged 5.3 points have roles on this season’s team. and 4.0 rebounds last season for Columbus North basketball. The Bull Dogs will be relatively inexperienced, but they have worked hard over the offseason and have seen a lot of improvement. The season opens Nov. 24 at home against Heritage Christian and a game against Hauser follows on Nov. 28. The Bull Dogs face road tests on Dec. 4 at Shelbyville and Dec. 5 at Martinsville before beginning Conference Indiana play on Dec. 11 at Franklin Central. The team will not participate in a holiday tournament this season, but it is part of a one-day shootout on Dec. 22 in Marion where the Bull Dogs will face Harrison (West Lafayette). Other additions to the schedule are the season-opening game against Heritage Christian and the regular-season finale against Center Grove on Feb. 25. This year’s rivalry game against Columbus East will be on Dec. 18 in the Orange Pit. Columbus North, of course, will face the usual rigorous lineup of Conference Indiana opponents. Last season, the Bull Dogs went 16-8 overall and 5-2 in Conference Indiana, finishing in third place in the conference. Wrestling: Skinner, Bull Dogs look to step forward in 2015-16 season Nick Skinner is optimistic as the Columbus North wrestling team prepares for the 2015-16 season. The coach is looking to eight wrestlers with significant varsity experience and five more wrestlers with limited or no varsity experience to make an impact for a squad that went 10-23 in dual matches and placed fifth in both Conference Indiana and the Jennings County Sectional last season. “I feel we are on an upswing,” Skinner said of the program. “It was a struggle when I arrived at CNHS, but we finally have some younger guys who are buying into what needs to be done to succeed in this sport. We also have some quality leadership and reliability from the older guys.” The top returnee is sophomore Andrew Chapman. He posted a 28-26 record and qualified for the semistate at 160 pounds as a freshman. Skinner projects him wrestling at 160 or 170 pounds this season. Other key holdovers are seniors Alex Davidson and Brett Bosserman, juniors Josh Larson and Cameron Corbin, and sophomores Isaiah Peetz, Curtis Collins and Nick Miller. Davidson went 21-22 and qualified for the regional at 152 pounds, while Bosserman was 21-26 and also qualified for the regional at 145. Larson posted a 15-34 mark at 182, Corbin was 10-28 at 220, Peetz went 17-15 at 113 and Collins was 7-3 at 113. Miller was 22-22 in varsity matches last season. This season, Davidson could wrestle 138, 145 or 152, and Bosserman could compete at 152 or 160. Larson is slotted at 170 or 182, and Corbin could go at 195 or 220. Peetz could wrestle at 113 or 120, while Collins is projected to move up to 126 or 132. Miller could wrestle at 106 or 113. Athletes who figure to factor this season are seniors Steven DeDomenic and Kevin Morales, junior David Redding and sophomores Brigham Kleinhenz and Cortez Bandy. DeDomenic went 4-9 at 220 pounds last season in varsity matches, while Kleinhenz was 0-2 at 152. DeDomenic is projected to wrestle 195 or 220 with Kleinhenz at 160 or 170. Morales is looking at 138 or 145 with Redding at 285 and Bandy looking at 182. The season begins Nov. 21 in the Capital City Classic at Perry Meridian. The Bull Dogs follow by competing in the Harrison Invitational on Nov. 27-28. They also visit Franklin on Dec. 3 before competing in the Bloomington Invitational on Dec. 5 and host the Columbus North Invitational on Dec. 12. Later events include a holiday invitational on Dec. 29-30 at North Montgomery, the Old Capitol City Classic at Corydon Central on Jan. 9, a home dual against Columbus East on Jan. 13 and the Conference Indiana meet on Jan. 16 at Bloomington South. 6 Bull Dog Bulletin November 2 - December 6, 2015 November 2 - December 6, 2015 Bull Dog Bulletin 7 Swimming: First-year coach has Bull Frogs aspiring to lofty goals A new season is set to open for the Columbus North swimming teams, and new coach Bridger Bell talks about a high standard for the program. “Our team goals are and always will be to win boys and girls state,” said Bell, who was hired last spring to take over for 21-year coach Jim Sheridan. “In order to do that, we need to grow our state teams by qualifying more swimmers. Each individual swimmer has goals for personal improvement; it’s our job as coaches to be resources for the swimmers in their pursuit of their goals.” Bell, who coached last season as an assistant at Johns Hopkins University and as head coach at St. Paul’s School in Brooklandville, Md., did not list anyone as a top returnee. “That remains to be seen,” he said. “Past performance does not determine future performance. If the meet lineup determined the outcome of the race, we wouldn’t need to hold a meet. Every race is a new opportunity for someone to step up and surprise herself or himself and the competition.” Still, the Bull Frog boys feature sophomore Michael Brinegar, seniors Chase McQueen and Jared Imlay and juniors Kaemon Jiles and Daniel Wheeler. The CN girls look to junior Grace Haskett, senior Mackenzie Fry and junior Darby Coles as standouts. Brinegar won the state championship in the 500-yard freestyle in 4 minutes, 24.92 seconds and also placed eighth at state in the 200 free in 1:40.62, while McQueen and Imlay each joined with Brinegar on a relay in a relay at state. McQueen also set 2015 team season bests in the 50 free (22.11), 100 free (47.36) and 200 individual medley (2:01.45). Jiles won the Bloomington North diving regional, and Jiles and Wheeler both qualified for state in diving. For the girls, Haskett placed third at state in the 100 backstroke in 55.29 and fifth at state in the 50 free in 23.48. Haskett, Fry and Coles provided three of four legs on the sixth-place 400 free relay at state in 3:30.60. Fry also posted a team season best in the 200 free in 1:55.18. Columbus North opens the 2015-16 on Nov. 23 with a dual meet at Jennings County. The Bull Frogs host Franklin in a dual on Nov. 24, then travel to North Central on Nov. 28 and Seymour on Dec. 3 before hosting Center Grove on Dec. 5. CN visits Columbus East on Dec. 8 and hosts the CN Relays on Dec. 12 as a pre-holiday highlight. After a break, the Conference Indiana girls’ meet will be Jan. 16 at Terre Haute South, and the Bull Frogs will host the CI boys’ meet on Jan. 30. The girls’ postseason is the first two weeks of February, and the boys’ postseason follows in late Feburary. Bell shared his philosophy about training. “Our swimmers will train for every event, with special focus on relays,” Bell said. “Our aim is to outperform on relays through the strength of ‘team,’ where our swimmers far outswim the sum of their individual times.” 8 Bull Dog Bulletin November 2 - December 6, 2015 Meet the Bull Dogs: basketball player Amy Weisner Class: Senior. November 2 - December 6, 2015 9 Bull Dog Bulletin Girls Basketball: Defending champ Bull Dogs seek another good year After reaching the top of the mountain last season, it is time to start the climb all over again for the Columbus North girls basketball team. Months after claiming the Class 4A state championship, the 2015-16 Bull Dogs seek to go after another title with three returning starters and five returning regulars from a 28-1 squad. Junior Maliah Howard-Bass, senior Paige Littrell and senior Elle Williams are returning starters. Junior Imani Guy and senior Emily Kim played key roles last time, while senior Amy Weisner and sophomores Kat Norman, Jenna Borger, Kelsey Patberg, Kenzie Patberg and Liz Tynan each saw some varsity time. Junior Ashlyn Huffman is a new player after transferring to Columbus North from Franklin Central. Howard Bass is the top returning scorer. The 5-9 guard averaged 9.5 points and 2.7 rebounds, while the 5-10 Littrell contributed 8.1 points and connected on 47 percent of her 3-point attempts. The 6-0 Williams and the 6-4 Guy combined for 10.9 points and 9.5 rebounds while sharing time in the middle. Williams averaged 5.7 points and 5.3 rebounds. Guy contributed 5.2 points and 4.2 rebounds. Kim provided 1.6 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists in a support role. Huffman is a fine addition to the team. The 5-5 guard TOP RETURNING SCORER: Maliah Howard Bass (22) averaged 11.1 points as a sophomore and enters the program with drives against Homestead in Bankers Life Fieldhouse. two seasons of full-time varsity experience. The new season is not without challenges, especially following the graduation of Indiana Miss Basketball Ali Patberg (now at Notre Dame), Debie Gedeon (now at Rose-Hulman) and Sheyanne Street (now at Vincennes University). Their departure, combined with opponents wanting to take their best shot at the defending champions, will require the returning players to step up their games. “We’re looking to have a good team,” CN coach Pat McKee said. “We know we won’t have the same team as last season, but we were highly encouraged by the way this group played in the latter part of June. If this group plays like it is capable, it should have excellent success.” The Bull Dogs open their season on Nov. 10 at New Albany. The team follows by hosting Martinsville on Nov. 13, then closes the month by visiting Franklin Central on Nov. 20 and facing Lawrence North on Nov. 28 at the State Fairgounds Coliseum as the opener of a five-game special event. CN hosts Columbus East in the annual rivalry on Dec. 17, and the Subway/Columbus North Invitational will be Dec. 29-30. The Bull Dogs face Franklin County (Ky.) in the Indiana-Kentucky Challenge Cup on Jan. 9 at Frankfort, Ky., before traveling to Heritage Christian on Jan. 19 and hosting Roncalli on Jan. 28. 2015-16 COLUMBUS NORTH GIRLS BASKETBALL VARSITY ROSTER JV ROSTER # 3 4 10 11 12 15 21 22 23 24 25 32 44 Name Emily Kim Ashlyn Huffman Imani Guy Jenna Borger Kat Norman Elle Williams Amy Weisner Maliah Howard-Bass Paige Littrell Kenzie Patberg Kelsey Patberg Nadia Lomax Liz Tynan Ht. 5-6 5-5 6-4 5-10 6-0 6-0 5-7 5-9 5-10 5-6 5-7 5-10 5-9 Yr. Barkes November 2 - December 6, 2015 November 2 - December 6, 2015 Bull Dog Bulletin 11 Football: Bull Dogs optimistic about future after improved 2015 The final record may not show it, but Columbus North fielded a much improved football team in 2015. Although the Bull Dogs dropped their final three games to finish at 6-4, the team had its chances in all three contests – a 22-17 loss to Bloomington South, a 49-41 setback at Southport and a 34-7 decision to Center Grove. CN fell into a big hole against the Panthers but rallied to have a chance to win late. The squad used a series of big plays to lead the Cardinals early, but it was unable to get a big stop in the second half. And the Bull Dogs went toe-to-toe with the state’s top-ranked team for 2½ quarters in a Class 6A Sectional 8 first-round game, but they could not overcome some second-half turnovers that allowed the Trojans to take command. “We came out with confidence,” CN coach Tim Bless told The Republic after the Center Grove game. “We didn’t just want to show up, and you could tell by our level of intensity early on in the game.” The same was true in portions of the previous two weeks, but a few too many mistakes proved costly in those games. For the season, junior Mitchell Burton paced the Bull Dogs with 1,757 yards and 22 touchdowns rushing. The rushing total was the second-best season in CN history, behind only the 1,782 yards by Alex Turner in 2006. And Burton’s 22 touchdowns tied a school record set by Mike DEFENSIVE LEADER: Senior Mitchell Kelley (12) paced Andress in 1973. Burton has rushed for 2,294 yards at the the Bull Dogs with 103 tackles and four fumble recoveries. varsity level, the fifth-best effort in CN annals. Senior Alex Algee also had a season for the ages. He caught 40 passes for 813 yards and nine touchdowns, the yardage figure being the second-best figure in CN history. Brandon Butler, with 944 receiving yards in 2006, had the only better receiving season. Algee had receiving games of 204 yards against Franklin and 200 yards against Southport, good for the second- and third-best single game totals in program annals. Algee also returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, one for 88 yards against Franklin Central and a second covering 89 yards against Southport. Defensively, senior safety Mitchell Kelley paced the team with 103 tackles on 74 solos and 29 assists. Senior linebacker Brice McDaniel had 101 tackles, while senior linebacker Sean Dasovich had 73 tackles and junior linebacker Tucker Payne totaled 69 tackles. Kelley also had five tackles for loss, four fumble recoveries and two interceptions, while McDaniel had six tackles for loss and Dasovich tallied seven tackles for loss. Senior Drew Schoeberl led the team with eight tackles for loss, while junior Spencer West had six sacks and sophomore J.D. Harris posted a team-best three interceptions. Junior kicker Mark Salle-Tabor tied a team record with 10 field goals, while junior quarterback Triston Perry threw for 274 yards at Southport, the fourth-best passing yardage total in a game in CN annals. As a team, the Bull Dogs set a school recorfds by averaging 417.7 yards per game. Their team rushing total of 2,545 yards was second best in CN annals, behind only 3,369 in 2004. Their 35.0 points per game was second in program history, behind only the 36.1 average of the 2007 squad. Davidson November 2 - December 6, 2015 November 2 - December 6, 2015 13 Bull Dog Bulletin Boys Soccer: Tough loss gives Bull Dogs a reason to return stronger The Columbus North boys’ soccer team knew that facing Columbus East in the sectional would be a challenge after posting a 1-0 victory over their rival earlier in the season. That proved to be the case as the Olympians pulled out a 1-0 decision over the Bull Dogs with a goal by senior Levi Copas in the 78th minute of the sectional encounter. Still, CN coach Andy Glover saw positives in a season that ended 7-7-3. “I feel the season was both productive and healthy overall, with much learning taking place,” Glover said. “The overall record can be viewed many differing ways. What can’t be disputed is that aside from our match against Avon, every game we played, we competed with an opportunity to win. With our strength of schedule, the team can be assured of its BIG SAVE: Senior Ty Bentham (center) goes up to make a abilities. However, all quality teams are not content stop during the Bull Dogs’ 2-1 victory over Center Grove. with sub-par performances.” Senior Ty Bentham recorded nine saves in the sectional game against East. However, Olympians sophomore Andy Davidson, brother of North senior Alex Davidson, recorded a shutout with five saves on the other side. “As the season unfolded, we put together mature performances against the likes of Carmel and Center Grove,” Glover said, noting the Trojans went on to win the Class 2A state championship. “However, when it mattered most, the team did not defend like champions. Moving forward, we will learn from that and begin to build the mind-set of 2016 getting back to basics, and working hard to develop as individuals that construct our team. “ With eight seniors set to graduate, including all-district picks in Bentham, Tyler Heathcote and Mason Shaffer, the Bull Dogs hope for the best next season with several talented juniors looking to play in big roles in 2016. “Looking into next season, we will need to optimize on the depth and youth in the team, both which can help us tremendously,” Glover said. “We have many players who return with rather high ceilings as individuals. I feel confident in our framework and the players’ willingness to accept their roles within it. That can make for a fun season ahead.” (article by CN senior Anthony Rork) 2015 BOYS SOCCER ROSTER VARSITY (final stats: 7-7-3) No. Name Yr. 00 Mark Salle-Tabor Jr. 0 Ty Bentham Sr. 1 Preston Grimes Sr. 2 Jack Robertson So. 3 Lucas McGill Sr. 4 Rico Hollenkamp So. 5 Alex Davidson Sr. 6 Jake Osborne Jr. 7 Kevin Morales Sr. 8 Alex McGill Fr. 9 Sam Snider Sr. 11 Tyler Heathcote Sr. 12 Mason Shaffer Sr. 13 Zack Friend Fr. 14 Cameron Phillips Jr. 15 Axel Arroyo So. 16 Kaemon Jiles So. 18 Nick Beales Jr. 20 Finn Anderson So. 22 Jannis Anderson So. November 2 - December 6, 2015 November 2 - December 6, 2015 15 Bull Dog Bulletin Girls Soccer: Bull Dogs look to future after injury-plagued 2015 A difficult season came to a close in a sectional semifinal when the Columbus North girls’ soccer team lost 2-0 to rival Columbus East. That gave the Bull Dogs a 5-9-3 record in a year that could have been much different if not for a handful of injuries. The Bull Dogs opened the sectional with a 6-0 victory over Scottsburg, but they were unable to carry that momentum into the game against the Olympians. Sophomore Addy Galarno put the O’s on top with a goal in the seventh minute, and Galarno found the net again in the 47th minute to put the game away. Senior Bryn Eudy posted a shutout. “It is always difficult to lose, but adversity builds strength and character,” Columbus North coach Derek Stewart said. “We always learn from games like this and work on improving our overall game.” With a lot of young talent and needing those players to step up, the coach saw some good performances. “It was nice to see the younger players compete and score on headers early in the season against Bloomington North,” the coach said. Looking ahead, players such as Natalie Teo (14 points on three goals and eight assists), Chloe Chambers (10 points on four goals and two assists) and goalkeeper GOOD FORM: Junior forward Chloe Chambers (20) shared Charlotte Verbanic (a 1.54 goals against average) are the team lead with four goals during a 5-9-3 season. among those who figure to be leaders in the future. And the return of Addy Lang, Claire Risley and Reagan Ward, all injured for all or most of the 2015 season, will add to the team’s optimism for 2016. Lang paced the 2014 squad with 25 goals and eight assists, while Risley and Ward are strong defenders. Players such as juniors Marina Hughes and Emma Wilson, sophomore Morgan Parkhurst and freshmen Baleigh Drum, Tanner Johnson and Elise Whitley have shown excellent potential. “The players coming up will perform well,” Stewart said. “They are well seasoned and will help us going forward.” (article by CN senior Anthony Rork) 2015 GIRLS SOCCER ROSTER VARSITY (stats through Oct. 3: 5-9-3) No. Name Yr. November 2 - December 6, 2015 21 Bull Dog Bulletin Cross Country: CN girls place third, boys eighth in IHSAA state meet Junior Rachel Brougher ran to an 11th-place finish individually last Saturday, leading the Columbus North girls cross country team to a third-place effort in the IHSAA State Finals at the LaVern Gibson Course. Brougher covered the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, 20.8 seconds to earn all-state honors as a top-25 finisher. She was the only CN runner to reach that plateau this season. Senior Sierra Lax placed 35th in 19:00.5 as the Bull Dogs totaled 170 points, 100 behind Carmel. Completing CN’s top five were senior Nina Bouthier, 55th in 19:12.9; senior Allison Coffey, 72nd in 19:20.1; and sophomore Arig Tong, 88th in 19:28.8. Rounding out the Bull Dogs’ lineup were freshman ON THE PODIUM: The Columbus North girls are recognized for Ensley Hammond, 101st in 19:36.5, and sophomore placing third at the 2015 IHSAA cross country State Finals. Ana Singhal, 149th in 20:12.9. “There were a lot of days that our girls were second-best team in the state, but (Saturday) was not one of them,” Columbus North coach Rick Weinheimer said. “On this day, we were third and that still is a pretty good finish. “Rachel Brougher ran well up front, while Nina Bouthier ran her best state meet and Arig Tong was significantly better than a year ago. From a bigger perspective, our seniors – Sierra Lax, Nina Bouthier and Allison Coffey – each have run in four state meets and each have medaled for four years in a row. Outside of Carmel, that is a pretty unusual feat.” Senior Ben Rankin, meanwhile, led the Columbus North boys to an eighth-place team standing by placing 49th individually in 16:10.4. Senior Chase McQueen was 64th in a personal best 16:18.0 followed by junior Elijah Brooks, 66th in 16:18.5, and senior Chandler Steward, 70th in 16:20.4. Completing the CN cast were junior Justin Spoon, 105th in 16:37.2; senior Braden Hammond, 111th in 16:42.8; and junior Alec Embry, 122nd in 16:45.8. The Bull Dogs totaled 241 points, well behind Carmel’s 115. “A year ago we told these guys, ‘You’re the no names,’ ” Weinheimer said of the CN boys. “Then we asked, ‘Can the no names work hard and make something special happen?’ We are extremely proud of these guys in how hard they have worked.” Carmel swept both team titles and had both individual winners, something that had never occurred before. Ben Veatch claimed the boys’ crown in 14:59.8 for his second consecutive championship, and Sarah Leinheiser won the girls’ race in 17:30.8. Columbus North has completed its IHSAA season, but it will field a team in the Nike Midwest Regional on Nov. 15 back at the LaVern Gibson Course. Individually, Lax was chosen to the Indiana All-Star Team that will run in the Mideast All-Star Meet on Nov. 21 at Kettering, Ohio, against top runners from Illinois, Michigan and Ohio. 2015 CROSS COUNTRY ROSTERS BOYS Name Charlie Allen Craig Athaide Abe Bailey Tyler Beach Elijah Brooks Kaden Brooks Tim Carlson Joel Carroll Jose Cordova Alec Embry Jarrett Embry Drew Falkner Luke Fields Eli Fischer Nick Glesing Aidan Graham Cohen Graham Braden Hammond Josh Hatton Harrison Ho Johnny Hodson Yr. FACE TO FACE with Tom Rust Heard each week at www.facetofaceradio.com Where sports can truly make a difference November 2 - December 6, 2015 McKinney November 2 - December 6, 2015 25 Bull Dog Bulletin Volleyball: Disappointing season ends with sectional setback A challenging season came to a quick end when Bloomington North defeated Columbus North 25-15, 25-13, 25-15 in the opening round of the volleyball sectional at Shelbyville. Down the stretch, the Bull Dogs lost 11 of their final 12 matches to close with a 10-22 record. “Although this season did not turn out the way the girls and coaches had envisioned, we had moments of success that I look forward to the returning players carrying over to the offseason and next year,” CN coach Caitlin Greiner said. “There is always something to be learned from every success and failure.” In the sectional match, senior Avery Wendel notched seven kills and 11 digs to pace the Bull Dogs. Junior Maliah Howard-Bass also had seven kills, while senior Hannah McKinney tallied 12 assists, six digs and one service ace. Junior Mackenzie Rooks provided six digs, while junior Hannah Weaver notched two blocks. The sectional result came after CN went 1-1 in the Conference Indiana Tournament to place seventh in league play. The Bull Dogs lost 3-1 to Terre Haute North, but they rebounded to sweep Southport 3-0 in the seventh-place match. Greiner mentioned her most enjoyable memory of the season. “My favorite moment would have to of been our play against Franklin Community,” she said. “Although we did not win, it was definitely one of the best matches we played. Several girls stepped up their play and competed and fought until the end. Taking a game off a ranked team was an accomplishment, especially with the inconsistent play we had all season.” Even though the season is done, the Bull Dogs will look forward to the 2016 season. “The sky is the limit next year,” Rooks said. Greiner added perspective. “This sectional loss will help motivate the returning players to continue to work hard in the offseason,” the coach said. “No one likes to go out in a sweep, and I know we didn’t leave everything we had out on the court.” (article by CN senior Anthony Rork) 2015 VOLLEYBALL ROSTERS 2015 SCHEDULE AND RESULTS VARSITY (stats available from 13 of 32 matches) No. Name Ht. Luo, who was selected honorable mention allstate in singles by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association, amassed a 20-4 record while playing the No. 2 position in the 2015 season for a team that went 13-8 and claimed a sectional championship. Luo also was named winner of the team’s Bull Dog and Sportsmanship awards, while senior Aditya Mantri, junior Nathan VanDeventer and freshman Kevin Lin also earned honorable mention all-state accolades. Mantri posted an 8-16 mark at No. 1 singles, while VanDeventer and Lin were 7-8 while playing together at No. 1 doubles. Earlier, Luo and Mantri were chosen first-team all-District 8 in singles, while VanDeventer and Lin were selected first-team all-District 8 in doubles. The CN season ended in the regional final, where the Bull Dogs dropped a 4-1 decision to Bloomington North. Luo prevailed at No. 2 singles, but junior Anay Gangal and the doubles tandem of senior Daniel Larken and junior Ammar Khaled each fought hard. Gangal dropped a 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 decision to Cougars sophomore Paul Dzubay at No. 3 singles, while Larken and Khaled fell to BN junior Mick Thompson and freshman Christian Gettelfinger 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-4) at No. 2 doubles. “So close it hurts that we were so close,” Bull Dogs coach Kendal Hammel said of the regional setback that followed a 5-0 victory over Seymour in the regional opener. “At 2 doubles, we were up 4-1 in first set and 5-2 in second set. Lost both in tiebreakers. We could have won 3 singles if it had come down to it.” 2015 BOYS TENNIS ROSTER (player records final; team, 13-8 in dual matches) Name Yr. Pos. Rec. Adhil Akbar So.
