CALL FOR 2D, 3D AND INSTALLATION WORK The North Vancouver Community Arts Council is currently accepting submissions for our Art in the Community Programme. This exhibition programme takes place at three venues: District Foyer Gallery in the North Vancouver District Municipal Hall; District Library Gallery in the Lynn Valley Main Library; and City Atrium Gallery in North Vancouver City Hall The Art in the Community Programme, run by the North Vancouver Community Arts Council has a mandate to celebrate and enable emerging artists through a professional exhibition in a public space, which serves to promote artists, to increase public awareness of art, and to make original art by local artists accessible to the general public. Through this programme, we invite visual artists working in all media including painting, photography, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics, wood, metal work and installation work. Successful candidates will be booked for a six to eight week exhibition at one of the three venues. NVCAC staff will determine which venue is best suited for each exhibiting artist. NVCAC will provide: digital invitations, exhibition installation, manage sales, promote the exhibitions through our website, member newsletters, e-bulletins, press releases and online listings. NVCAC staff handles all sales, retains the arrangements and payment and takes a 30% administration fee. This call is for all three venues and the qualifying artists will be allocated to a venue by NVCAC staff. Artists will not be booked for more than one show per year in the venues. All Exhibition Proposals must include the following items: An artist’s statement and biography List of works including title, medium, size, and price. If the work is not for sale, a value is still necessary 15 – 20 images (printed or on disk) of completed artworks that you are proposing and are available for the exhibition. Images must be numbered or titled to match the corresponding list of works. If work is framed please include image of the frame Artwork cannot have been displayed on the North Shore within a one year prior to the application. Specific Venue Details District Library Gallery - 2D artwork Lynn Valley Main Library | 1277 Lynn Valley Road Mon-Fri 9:00am-9:00pm Sat 9:00am-5:00pm Sun (Sept to June 7th) 12:00pm-5:00pm http://nvartscouncil.ca/exhibitions/district-library-gallery Proposed artwork must be representative of a collection of artwork cohesive in theme, colour and/or subject matter. All frames should be similar in appearance. Unframed canvases are acceptable, however, all four sides must be finished. ArtWork must be framed with two eyehooks, D-rings, eyelets or their equivalent, on the back of the frame. The 2D pieces are hung with a track system that uses construction string threaded through the eyelet hole. Important - eyelets need to be installed approximately ¼ inch from the top of the work piece. All frames should be similar in appearance. Unframed canvases are acceptable however all four sides must be finished. The doors to access the case have a clearance of 1.5’. There are 3 cases to display the artwork. Atrium Glass Case for 3D The 3D artist for the District Foyer will also display artwork in a glass display case at North Vancouver City Hall. The Glass Case is approximately 23.5” x 72” and the depth decreases from left to right, 20” x 12”. Specific Venue Details City Atrium Gallery - 2D and/or 3D installation work North Vancouver City Hall | 141 West 14 Street Monday to Friday from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm http://nvartscouncil.ca/exhibitions/city-atrium-gallery The City Atrium Gallery focuses on installation art, a form of three-dimensional sculptural work designed to transform the perception of a space. The objective is to animate, inspire, and engage the community though art in a public space. Artwork cannot be mounted on the wall. The wall is 30’x 8’ and is intended to become a part of the installation. There are 4 tracks at the top that provide different depths using monofilament line or construction string; this allows the artist to be creative with how they display the installation. Artists will be responsible to promote and present at an artist’s talk during a lunch hour at North Vancouver City Hall
