2 Color Diagonal Baby Blanket
I am sure you have seen this baby blanket pattern a
million times already – as a dishcloth.
This simple design is brought to life when you mix 2
yarns, one a multicolored gradient with a matching
solid color. By knitting two rows in each yarn, a
beautiful colorful design emerges.
Designed to use 4 balls of yarn without a lot of scrap,
this blanket can be made bigger or smaller depending
on your desire. My blanket is approximately 28”
square and is a great size for a baby blanket.
Materials:
2 balls each of Cascade Yarns Pacific – 213 yards/ball
Pacific Color Waves – Punk 321
Pacific – Concord Grape 45
US 8 – 5.0mm circulars with long enough cable to hold stitches.
Size & Gauge: Approximately 28” square. Gauge is not important for this pattern.
Begin Pattern: Increase half
With Color 1 - Cast on 7 stitches. Knit 1 row
Rows 1 & 2 – With color 2 - Knit 3, yo, knit to end of row
Rows 3 & 4 – With color 1 - Knit 3, yo, knit to end of row
Continue this pattern changing colors every other row until your blanket is
approximately 28” long on one side from corner to edge. The blanket will be about
38” wide on the working edge. End on Color 1
NOTE: The trick is to use all of your yarn without going over or too much under.
Note that decreasing this pattern took more yarn than increasing, so knitting two
full balls in expecting to knit two full balls out is not a good tactic. Before you reach
your half way point, be sure that you have left yourself some yarn to be sure you
can complete your blanket in 4 balls (two balls of each color).
Decrease half
Keeping with your two rows per color pattern…
Rows 1 & 2 – With color 2 - Knit 2, k2tog, yo, k2tog, knit until end of row
Rows 3 & 4 – With color 1 - Knit 2, k2tog, yo, k2tog, knit until end of row
Continue knitting until you have decreased down to 7 stitches. Bind off.
