Sur le circuit international, les pilotes du team Big Mountain font leur possible pour tester
les limites de nos modèles et protos DH, Froggy, Spicy et même le nouveau Zesty dans
les conditions ardues de la compétition. Et il faut bien le reconnaître, les vélos comme
les pilotes s’en sortent plutôt bien… Il faut dire que Nico « ET » Vouilloz himself, toujours
impressionnant sur le terrain (3ème à la Megavalanche® 2009) reste très impliqué au bureau
R&D Lapierre où il teste également les limites de nos ingénieurs. L’ exigence a du bon !
On the international race circuit, our “Big Mountain” riders push the latest DH, Froggy, Spicy
and even carbon Zesty prototypes to the limits, in the most demanding circumstances.
And we’ve got to admit, the results of the races and the test sessions alike are pretty
encouraging. Riders like Nicolas “E.T.” Vouilloz, who remains just as impressive on the race
circuit (including a 3rd place finish at the Mégavalanche® this year), work closely with our
R&D department to challenge our engineers to find innovative solutions. Being demanding
is a good thing…

Le DH Lapierre, développé avec Nico «E.T.» Vouilloz, était déjà une
référence. Le cru 2010 repousse encore les limites en s’adaptant
aux pistes verticales les plus engagées. Le DH-920 adopte une
géométrie optimisée issue des tests effectués par les pilotes du
Team, avec notamment un poste de pilotage plus bas. Equipé de
la technologie FPS2, il bénéficie d’un nouvel amortisseur Fox DHX
RC4, d’une potence intégrée et d’un cintre Syncros 740mm. Pour
satisfaire tous les désirs, Lapierre propose une version kit cadre
« Nico » Replica, équipé d’un amortisseur Bos Stoy, ainsi qu’une
version DH-720, une alternative au modèle haut de gamme, plus
accessible, mais tout aussi efficace.
The downhill model developed with Nico Vouilloz was already a
reference. The 2010 models push the limits even further, ready
to attack the steepest and most technical runs. The DH-920 has
a new geometry already approved by team riders, with a lower
riding position. The FPS2 suspension platform uses the new Fox
DHX RC4 rear shock, and the frame is equipped with a press
fit stem and 740mm Syncros handlebars. This year we’re also
offering a “Nico Replica” frame kit, using a Bos Stoy shock, as well
as the DH-720, a more affordable yet just as efficient alternative
to the DH-920.

Lapierre has created an intelligent suspension platform dedicated
to long-travel bikes. Like the FPS2 technology, OST is based on a
patented virtual pivot point system. But OST has proved to offer
superior performance for bikes using more than 130mm of rear
travel and a front derailleur. An optimized geometry for smooth
steering and total pleasure. With OST, Lapierre has created
extremely versatile and lightweight mountain bikes. OST is
available in 2010 on the Zesty (140mm of rear travel), the Spicy

The patented OST suspension platform is based on a virtual pivot point system that fights
against pedal kick-back. The two main characteristics of the system are:
• An equilibrium point that takes into the account the weight of the rider.
• A counteraction proportional to any force potentially produced by pedal bob, thus eliminating it.
OST innovations: new linkage positioning and angles. The trajectory of the virtual pivot point
is horizontal and moves towards the front. This structure procures a different curve than
with FPS2 but the same stability when pedaling and is especially advantageous for long-travel
bikes with a front derailleur.
How does it work?
As with FPS2, any force created by pedal bob is counteracted by pedaling: the tension created
in the chain by a pedal stroke will bring the rear swing arm back to its equilibrium point,
although the suspension remains active for shocks coming from the ground. If the rear shock
is properly adjusted to the weight of the rider, the efficiency and performance are optimal.

rides.For 2010, Lapierre is launching the third generation of the X-Control, which

Le point de pivot virtuel se situe à l’intersection
formée par les axes des deux biellettes et se
déplace au cours du temps. Avec FPS 2, lorsque
l’on se trouve à la position d’équilibre (quand
l’indicateur tombe dans la plage de réglages),
le point de pivot virtuel est aligné avec la chaîne.
Si un effet de pompage tendait à écarter le bras
oscillant de sa position d’équilibre, l’effort de
pédalage le ramènerait à cette position. Le système s’auto-équilibre en permanence,
pour un confort et une motricité exceptionnelle.

With FPS2, when system is correctly adjusted
at its equilibrium point (when the indicator falls
within the range of settings with the rider on the
bike), the virtual pivot point is aligned with the
chain. Because the tension in the chain works to
keep the pivot point at its equilibrium point, FPS2
is constantly correcting itself, for better control
and response.

The patented FPS (Full Power Suspension) platform was presented for the first time
in 2001 on the very first X-Control. Since then, this virtual pivot point system has
proven its worth and lived through several evolutions, but it is still based on the same
principles: the existence of an equilibrium point when the rider is on the bike and a
counteraction proportional to any force that would otherwise produce pedal bob.
For 2010, the FPS2 platform, which can be found on the X-Control and DH models,
benefits from improved hydraulics. Low-speed compression damping has been
optimized, as well as high-speed transitions. The result: an even more efficient
mountain bike.
The FPS2 suspension platform eliminates pedal kickback even when the rider is
climbing out of the saddle. With each pedal stroke, the tension in the chain prevents
the rear swing arm from moving away from its equilibrium point, improving stability
and eliminating kickback. The rear wheel benefits from perfect adherence, for excellent
grip and efficiency.

littéralement au sol, offrant une accroche et une motricité incomparable.

from Team Lapierre International, have always used the best carbon and alloy manufacturing
technologies. This year the Lapierre engineers had a new challenge: improve the Pro Race
frame, the frame that’s put many riders on the podium over the years. The geometry, which
has proven its efficiency and comfort, stays the same. The frame, however, is totally new

(frame only), the monocoque carbon frame uses high-resistance unidirectional fibers.
