Downey Society Honors Dr. James A. Butts Good News Clinics’ Medical Director Dr. James A. Butts (photo, right) was recently recognized by The Medical Center Foundation’s James H. Downey Society physicians and presented the Samuel O. Poole Award. The recipient is nominated and selected by physician peers. Dr. Butts is known not only for his extraordinary medical contributions as a pioneer in the practices of oncology and hematology in the northeast Georgia region, but also as Good News Clinics’ volunteer Medical Director since 2007. He continues today as an involved healthcare advocate for the uninsured and underserved in the community. Dr. Butts is the third recipient of the award, following Dr. Poole in 2001 and Dr. Greg DeLong in 2008. Congratulations, Dr. Butts for this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for all you do for GNC and our community! Congratulations to Anne on this well-deserved honor, and our continued appreciation for her support of GNC’s mission. Despite the threat of rain, the event drew more than 400 attendees and raised over $26,000 to help further GNC’s mission to provide for the health care needs of uninsured Hall County residents. While Good News Clinics provides primary care services, Health Access Initiative provides specialty care referral services. Not only has the merger been a seamless transition for staff and area providers, the greatest benefit being realized is the collaboration of available services allowing for an even higher level of patient care. Good News Clinics welcomes Health Access Initiative and the more than 200 physicians seeing patients in their offices who otherwise would not have access to needed specialty care services.
