WSU’s five-year record is 40-26. • WSU recorded three straight 10-win seasons, 2001-03, only the second Pacific-10 team to ever have three 10-win seasons in a row. • The Cougars recorded four 10-win seasons in a seven-year span, 1997-2003. Only one other Pacific-10 team has had four 10-win seasons in a seven-year span and WSU is the only team to do so since the formation of the Pacific-10 Conference in 1978. 2001–2006 WINS BY PAC-10 TEAMS 1. Stanford 24 Cougar to receive consensus All-America status following his 10. Arizona 20 selection to seven All-America first teams. He established 11 singleseason and career records while rushing for a school-record 1,900 yards, the fifth-most ever by a Pac-10 back, including a Pac-10 record 14 consecutive 100-yard rushing games. He was one of three finalists for the Doak Walker Award, signifying the nation’s top running back, and finished ninth in the 2005 Heisman Trophy voting. • WSU defensive tackle Rien Long, now with the Tennessee Titans, captured the 2002 Outland Trophy, recording 21.5 tackles-for-losses and 13.5 sacks. • Cougar quarterback Jason Gesser capped a legendary and record-setting career by finishing seventh in the 2002 Heisman Trophy balloting. WSU’s Ryan Leaf finished third in the 1997 Heisman Trophy balloting, giving WSU two top-7 finalists in the last eight years.
