Headmistress’s Message
Dear Parents
Despite the unpredictable weather, we held our Junior
Sports Day, as well as Lower Kindergarten. Fingers
crossed for Upper Kindergarten and Infants Sports, the
latter hopefully to be held soon, do check your app!
Next week are our Early Years Celebration of the Year
and our Prize Giving. Please keep looking at your
app/portal for details of all our various activities at this
very busy time of the year.
Kind regards
Kaye Lovejoy
Coopersale Conga
On the morning of 25 May, one hundred and two children from the
Early Years department took part in a sponsored dance which began
with one long conga line. The event was organised to raise money for
Guide Dogs for the Blind. Many thanks to all the staff who took part
and for the donations that were received from mums, dads, grans,
grandads, uncles and aunts.
House Swimming Gala
On the 26 May Coopersale had their House Swimming Gala for the Juniors. Everyone collected lots of points for
their house and swam really well in the backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and butterfly. There were some very
close races as well. Chestnut came first followed closely by Beech then Willow and Oak. The Champion
Swimmer competition was really close, well done to all the swimmers in that race. It was a great experience
and the relays were interesting.

Transition Cambridge Class Assembly
On Friday 24 June everyone enjoyed the assembly put on by Transition
Cambridge which was all about animals. The children told us about the
animal groups and independently discussed their animal pictures. They
each learn a poem and sang about Noah and his Ark. Mrs Cambridge
and Mrs Simikel were very proud of the class who partly put this
assembly together themselves.

Epping in Bloom Competition Results
It seems a long time ago when Coopersale Hall was invited to take part in the ‘Epping in Bloom’ Competition
but we have received the results and are very proud to announce that 1st place goes to Kate (Year 6) with
Melissa (Year 5) runner-up.
The presentation will be held in Epping in July and both girls will be presented with their prizes and certificates.
Good news, too for the other local ‘Epping in Bloom’ competition which was to design a garden to celebrate
the Queen’s birthday. Our winner is Nikola (Year 1D) who has been invited to the Tower Road Green to meet
the Mayor of Epping for her winning entry for the raised garden design. Well done to all of these girls. I look
forward to attending the presentation.

Year 3 visit the Gunpowder Mills
On Wednesday 8 June Year 3 went to the Royal Gunpowder Mills for a
‘Homefront’ experience. We were told that one of the people we
would be meeting was a spy but we wouldn’t be told who it was until
the end of the day.
‘Mr Jones the shopkeeper took us to his shop. There were lots of tins
and cans.’ Jake
‘We saw real gas masks.’ Oliver
‘The spy was the Billeting Officer. She said she was reading a German
newspaper and was tapping morse code with her knitting needle but
none of us had noticed! What a fantastic day.’ Isabelle
‘We went inside an Andersen Shelter. We heard a loud air siren. It made
me feel scared!’ Taj
‘We met a Billeting Officer and she made the teachers be the foster parents. I was with Mrs Andersen and
Charlie didn’t get a foster parent. I said Charlie was my brother and we were living together!’ Ben
‘We met an ARP Warden and we experienced what it was like in a public air shelter. I was very scared! Later
on we went to Jack Jones’ shop. I was horrified to know that children at school were given cod liver oil with
the same spoon!’ Kimaya
‘I visited the Royal Gunpowder Mills with my class. First of all we met a lady from the Women’s Air Force. She
told us that women made uniforms and used to sit and chat while they worked.’ Frances
Gun Dogs Visit Coopersale
On the 11 May we were very fortunate to have a visit from The Gun
Dog Company. John, the owner brought along three Cocker Spaniels
who were able to demonstrate their working skills to the children
and staff. Some of the children were able to help John with the
demonstrations which they all loved. Everyone enjoyed the visit and
we hope to have them back again in the future.
ISA Junior Gundog Competition
I thought very carefully about what playground item I wanted. I
wanted a seesaw. It was one fit for a queen! It had comfy arm rests,
foot stalls, a crown shaped umbrella that can be used in any kind of
weather and comfy velvet thrones. It looked very relaxing! I won
1st place prize.
Well done and congratulations Isabelle (Year 3W)

Year 2 visit Paradise Park
On Friday 17 June Year 2 visited Paradise Park in Broxbourne. All the
children enjoyed a fantastic day visiting the animals. When they
returned to school they were asked to write about their day.
‘I loved our trip to Paradise
Park. I liked seeing all the
animals. First of all we had
snack, then went to look at the
camels. One of the camels had
the hump! Next we saw a jaguar which had lots of spots on it. Later on
we saw a cheetah. At first, it was lying down then it got up and started
wandering around its pen. The cheetah is a carnivore. Next we saw the
African Zebra. The African Zebra has strong hooves and a very strong
kick. Later we had lunch. I had a chicken sandwich. After lunch we saw the bats in the bat house. They were all
in one corner. Miss Simms is scared of bats. Then we heard the lions roar “ROAR”. Later we went on the train.
We then had an ice-cream “Yummy”. Then we went and had a play on the playground. We then went back on
the coach. I love Paradise Park.’

A visitor to Year 2
Elara’s Grandfather came to
talk to Year 2 about Africa. He
showed us pictures of African
animals and a school in Kenya.
He brought in an elephant’s
tusk, an elephant’s tooth and a
kikoy (material that they use to
wrap around them).
At the end, he gave everyone an African keyring made out of beads. We had a fantastic time and we all learnt
a lot. Thank you very much Mr Craker!

District Sports Athletics Meeting
On Wednesday 22 June Coopersale Hall
Athletics team took part in ‘The Epping and
Ongar District Sports Tournament’. The
pupils participated in running races over
60m, 80m, 200m and 400m, including relay
races. The pupils performed brilliantly
showing real determination and effort. It was
wonderful to be handed the shield again as
the winning team. There were many fantastic
performances, well done to all of the pupils
who represented the school team. We only
won by 6 points, so everyone’s contributions
was very important to our overall success.

FOCHS Update
The Summer Ball was a great success, bringing all four Oak-Tree
schools together for a fantastic
evening which included a
champagne reception, live
music from a 'Rat Pack' performer, a 'street' magician, fun casino tables
and live entertainment from the popular band 'Souled Out'. This event,
and the raffle and auction which took place, are a very valuable
fundraiser for us which enable us to continue to provide the children
with extra treats and curriculum supporting activities.
Plans for the Picnic in the Park, which will take place on Tuesday July 12 are well underway. It is promising to
be another lovely afternoon (weather permitting!). Thank you to everyone who has offered to help out with
the running of stalls and games - and if anyone else would like to be involved, please do let us know, as we
would welcome an extra few pairs of hands. We hope to hear from you!
If you would like to get in touch please don't hesitate to drop us a line at [email protected].
Thank you!

Year 5 Class Assembly
2016 is the 400th anniversary
of
William
Shakespeare's’
death. To commemorate Year
5’s recent class assembly was
based on the famous bard’s life.
The class had great fun dressing
up and learning about his life.
Transition Pettigrew Class Assembly
On
17
June,
Transition
Pettigrew performed their class
assembly. The theme was days
of the week and animals. It
included the story of the Boy
Who Cried Wolf, poems and
songs—one of which was in
French. The children were
amazing!
