Winterthur Interim
January 2010 Calendar and Honor Roll of Donors
Winterthur
New Year, New Plans
Life at Winterthur has long been observed more through the ebb and
flow of the seasons than through the strictures of the calendar. As 2010
begins, Winterthur moves to a new approach in its programming by
adapting an operating schedule that provides a closer connection to the
estate’s seasonal offerings. The conclusion of the current winter season
will occur on January 31, 2010. Winterthur will be closed to the public
from February 1 through March 8, 2010, re-opening on March 9.
This midwinter break provides the opportunity to make important
changes and realize significant cost savings during a time in which such
considerations are particularly important. Museum and estate staff
will focus their energies on planning and preparation to ensure that
Winterthur’s “spring awakening” provides visitors with a welcome that
reflects the best of the season.
During this period, the Winterthur Library will continue to provide
service to researchers who have made advance arrangements, and the
Museum Stores will offer private shopping by appointment. Please call
800.448.3883 for further details.
Of
Note...
As the Yuletide
season has
drawn rave
reviews from
visitors who
are enjoying both the magnificent
holiday tour and the Faces of a New
Nation exhibition, Winterthur has
extended the Yuletide tour through
January 10 and the exhibition through
January 31. Don’t miss your chance
to enjoy them! This edition of Interim
provides us with an opportunity
to look forward to January’s events
and to preview plans for the spring
season. We also look back at many
of 2009’s high points through a
selection of photos that capture the
year’s activities. The Honor Roll of
Donors (page 5) provides a perfect
opportunity to acknowledge the
Members and friends whose support
is so vital to Winterthur. Thanks for
making 2009 so memorable. Here’s
to an even better 2010!

2009 in Review
The generous and unfailing support of donors, Members, friends, and volunteers was critically important and
provided the opportunity for many memorable moments. As the Honor Roll of Donors unfolds in the pages that
follow, we gratefully acknowledge the network of support that bolstered Winterthur’s 2009 fiscal year, even as we
celebrate many of the unforgettable events that marked this important time. The following list recognizes donations
received between July 1, 2008, and June 30, 2009.
Allen Rokach
As the new year dawns, we pause to reflect on all that made the past year such a remarkable one at Winterthur.
Although not immune to the challenging economic headlines, Winterthur charted a careful course in 2009.
Excellence in programming and enthusiasm for its mission were key to a year in which innovative approaches
allowed Winterthur to maintain equilibrium.

The Port Royal
Society
The Port Royal Society honors
those who have made a provision
in their estate plans to benefit
Winterthur. The society includes
individuals favoring Winterthur
through a bequest intention,
beneficiary designation of a
retirement plan or life insurance
policy, or an irrevocable lifeincome arrangement such as
a charitable remainder trust,
charitable gift annuity, or
the pooled income fund. We
encourage others who have an
interest in including Winterthur
in their estate plans, or who have
already done so anonymously, to
notify the Gift Planning Office.

Hundreds of volunteers regularly
dedicate their time and expertise
in every division of Winterthur.
This year, volunteers assisted
with large-scale events and
programs such as Point-toPoint, the Delaware Antiques
Show, Historic Automobiles
at Winterthur, and Enchanted
Summer Day. Others assisted
with the daily operations of the
Garden, Development, Collections
Management, Library, and Public
Programs divisions. Volunteers lead
within the organization as well as
through service on the Board of
Trustees and various committees.
Winterthur appreciates all
volunteers who share their time
in support of our mission.
Yuletide—The stunning,
ten-foot-tall butterfly tree
is just one of the fabulous
creations featured in the
2009 Yuletide tour.
