TO PROVIDE a range of theatre experiences for children of diverse cultures and different ages. TO FOSTER self-discovery, creativity, confidence, group responsibility, and pride in accomplishment, as well as the development of skills in an enjoyable, non-competitive atmosphere. 3 WCT Special Funds The WCT Tuition Assistance Fund was established to help fulfill the WCT mission to be a cultural and educational resource for the community by providing opportunities for all children to appreciate and participate in the performing arts, regardless of ability to pay. WCT tuition assistance allows all interested students and families the chance to become involved with our diverse and inclusive theatre programming. The WCT Visionary Fund was established in celebration of WCT’s 25th birthday to build a financial reserve and to help secure a bright future for the next 25 years and beyond! Numerous contributions, including a matching grant, have given us a strong start toward our initial fundraising goal of $50,000. For more specific information on this fund, you may contact Kelly Teer at 617-923-0100 x8300. The WCT Cindy Waldron Cannon Fund was established after Cindy, a WCT parent and volunteer, passed away in April 2002, to honor her for the extraordinary person she was and for her many contributions to WCT. As she loved both the theatre and education, the fund is used to award an annual scholarship in Cindy’s name to a graduating Watertown High School senior who has participated in WCT and has shown extraordinary commitment to the performing arts during high school. The 2013 CWC Fund scholarship was awarded to Joseph Lowry. The WCT Dinah Lane Theatre Arts Fund was established on the occasion of WCT’s 20th Anniversary Celebration to honor WCT Founder and Artistic Director, Dinah Lane. The mission of the fund is to sponsor theatre arts events and performances FREE to all. Programs such as master classes, artists-in-residence, technical theatre activities, and special performances to supplement core programming of WCT are supported by this fund. To make a tax-deductible contribution to any of the funds, please send a check payable to Arsenal Center for the Arts, addressed to: WCT Fund Arsenal Center for the Arts 321 Arsenal Street Watertown, MA 02472 4 Upcoming with WCT... To begin I would like to thank the dedicated production staff for the talent and energy they put into this production and the parent volunteers who donate their time to everything from painting scenery to selling concessions. Lastly, I’d like to thank this wonderful cast. Their boundless energy and hard-work made for a fun-filled rehearsal process and really brought this production to life. Through song, dance, scene-work, and even naming their own characters, this talented group of performers created a funky world from decades past that, hopefully, reminds us what it’s like to be a child and teaches us everything from how eating foods with certain flair can brighten a meal to timeless tactics for getting what you want. They worked hard to hone their performance skills and, most importantly, learned to work as an ensemble and share their joy of performance with the audience. Thank you for joining us, and remember, “Even if you’ve grown up and lost your effervescence, it doesn’t mean you can’t have fun, it just means you need lessons”! 6 CAMP ENCORE/CODA For a wonderful summer of music, sports and friendship on beautiful Stearns Pond in Sweden, Maine ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥ ¥ Location - 3.5 hours from Boston in southwestern Maine Ages - Lower Camp (grades 3-6), Upper Camp (grades 7-11) Philosophy - non-competitive, nurturing camp environment Private Lessons - weekly on all instruments and voice Performances - staff and camper concerts, guest appearances Large Ensembles - orchestras, bands, jazz bands, choruses Small Ensembles - chamber music, jazz combos, rock bands Piano Ð private lessons, workshops, accompanying, sight reading Classes - theory, conducting, history, composition, arranging Conservatory Program - for advanced students, grades 9-11 Musical Theater - Broadway musicals, vocal workshops, skits Athletics - full waterfront facility, daily land sports Recreation - cookouts, campÞres, trips, rocketry, arts & crafts Summer 2012 Our 65th 63rdSeason! Transforming Colorfu l A fresh start Supportive a supportive community where kids can explore, e v i t grow, build self-confidence, make new friends, a e Cr and most of all have fun and put on a great show! really fun - I enjoy coming in and learning new things… a place where I can have fun in theatre a place where kids can have fun and less Never-ending express themselves in an artistic r a e F way; there’s no right or wrong, and all together it’s a fun place Innovative Vibrant a second home, a place to grow, a place to laugh, a work of art, a way to bond, a way to learn, a community an amazing place where you express yourself stic a i s u h t En Awesomely, amazingly, awesome! a place where everyone can be themselves and no one makes fun of anyone for being silly or trying something new; all the kids have each other’s backs and encourage each other super fun even if you don’t get a big part relaxing, challenging, an escape Collaborative Friendly Lucky like Oz - when you walk through the door bursts of color explode in your face. You meet awesome, unique friends along the rehearsal process. During the shows it is as if you reach the Emerald City and when the “journey” is over it is almost the saddest you’ve ever been one of my favorite things to be a part of the place where I can be me ! 44 Index to Sponsors We are grateful for the generosity of our sponsors.
