Fall Programming in the Children’s Room!
September: Dog B.O.N.E.S.
Back by popular demand, our amazing volunteers and
their adorable therapy dogs
will be in the Children’s
Department multiple times per
month! Children can register
for fifteen minute sessions to
read to the dogs; they are
excellent listeners and love hearing stories. Reading to
dogs provides wonderful benefits for kids, including
reduced anxiety, increased reading fluency, and
improved confidence in reading abilities. Check our
calendar to find out what date works best for you!
October: Preschool STEM
Over the past year we’ve done lots of
Science, Technology, Engineering and
Math programs for children in
elementary school. In October,
preschoolers will get a chance to
participate in STEM programs too! Together, parents
and children will explore and experiment with concepts
like light and color, air movement, our physical senses,
and tools of measurement. We will do hands-on
activities that will both introduce scientific ideas and
spark an early interest in STEM subjects. Your
preschooler will get the chance to explore with bubbles,
color paddles, magnifying glasses, and more while
building a strong foundation in early math and science
skills. Preschool STEM programs are on Friday
afternoons, and will require registration. Please check
our October calendar for dates!
Kindergarten Yoga
Does your child have extra energy after school? Do they
like to jump, stretch, and pose like animals? Bring your
energetic and imaginative 4 to 6 year old to
Kindergarten Yoga this October! A children’s librarian
leads the class in active and relaxing play on Tuesday
afternoons. No Registration is required. Mats will be
provided on a first to arrive basis. Please check our
October calendar for dates!

Ike’s Incredible Ink!
by Brianne Farley
Ike wants to write an incredible story. But he
doesn’t know what to write about. After some
procrastination, he realizes that he needs new
ink and sets out to gather the ingredients he’ll
need to make it, thus beginning a very
incredible story indeed. Farley tells the story
beautifully, and her descriptions of what make
various “ingredients” ink-like are lovely:
“Shadows, he thought, are like ink. They are
shady and shifty and mysterious.” Farley’s
illustrations match the story’s mood just as
area. Jennifer believes everyone has a story to
tell and everyone can write.
The six-week workshop will
meet 10 - 11:30 a.m. starting
Monday, September 16 and
pre-registration is required.

himself looks like a blob of ink ties the whole
tale together. A truly enjoyable read for

Maryam Zahiri, Photographer
Jonathan Spiller, Photographer
Maryam has made use of different
techniques of using macro photography by
using only ordinary equipment.
Maryam’s philosophy about her work is that
simple is the way to think, to think simply
about reality and its beauty. Take a minute
to think about everything that you see every
day and do not pay attention to or even
notice. These moments are the true reality
of life. Time passes by so quickly, so take a
minute to slow down and look. Focus your
eyes and change your perspective. See in a
way in which you’ve never seen before.
There is a little soul inside everything, inside
a water droplet, even inside an ice crystal.
Look at it again. If you look harder, you will
see something amazing.
