Dear Church Family,
Yesterday, we had a great time blessing the dogs at Dogtober Fest. We blessed close to 200 dogs and
their people. I want to thank Kristy Boswell, Lorie Hackler, Shelby Evans, Patty and Nancy Carlisle,
Angie, Drake, and Stephen Edwards, Cindy, Robyn and Bryanna Summers, as well as the whole Graham
Clan for coming out and sharing their time and talents with the community. I even got to bless the dogs that
were waiting to be adopted from the Humane Society. By the end of the Fest, I believe all the dogs were
spoken for! Also, we were asked by Bark Relay for Life to take our dog blessing team on the road and be a
part of Bark for Life in Port Neches next month. What a great outreach!
I learned some interesting things yesterday. One, people will do things for their pets that they won’t do
for themselves. Several people said they came to Dogtober Fest just to get their dogs blessed! One lady
said they told her at Petsmart to come to Dogtober Fest and there would be people there to bless her
pooch. So, she made a special trip just to get that done. Why is it that people will make a special effort to
get their dogs blessed, but won’t come to church to get themselves blessed?
Another thing I learned is that many people don’t understand that prayer really is free. I know the old
maxim that says, “Nothing in life is really free,” but prayer may be the exception! Many people asked us
how much we charged for the blessings and seemed to be taken aback when we said it was free! We said we
couldn’t charge for something that comes from God. So, that leads me to my next question- Why don’t people pray more when it’s absolutely free and it’s so beneficial? Food for thought!
I will be out of the office Monday and Tuesday. I will be in Austin for my mother’s surgery. If all goes
well, I will be back Wednesday. You can, of course, reach me by phone or by email if you need me! Have a
great week and stay well!
Blessings,
Pastor Beth

Prayer Requests
AND WHEN YOU PRAY......
But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door
and pray to your Father who is in secret;.--Matthew 6:6
Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin
against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you; --I Samuel
12:23a

AND WE LEARN HOW TO PRAY BY... PRAYING.
EXAMPLES OF GREAT PRAYER
ELEAZAR: Gen 24:12-14 (evidence of God's direction in personal life and thanksgiving when prayer answered)
ELIJAH 1 Ki 18:24, 36-37, 41f
HANNAH: 1 Sa 1:9-12,18 (The barter prayer, similar to but
distinct from, a fox hole prayer; make sure you keep what you
vow)
DANIEL: Daniel 6:10; 9:5-22 (prayer of confession of sin; to
answered because of God's grace, not our holiness or merit)
And when you pray this week:
Praise our Lord and Savior;
Praise God for giving you the invitation to pray.
Praise God for giving you the desire to learn to pray.
Ask God to strengthen your prayer life.
