Sister Darlene Kawulok, CSJ
Awarded Inaugural CSJ
Research Grant
S
hannon Green, Director of the CSJ Institute, notified Sister
Darlene Kawulok, CSJ that she has been awarded the
inaugural CSJ Research Grant for 2016-2017. The research
project is a faculty-student initiated experience focused
on reading CSJ Congregational and Provincial histories,
researching archival documents at Carondelet Center and
Mount St. Mary’s University and collecting visual and oral histories of
CSJs who were instrumental in MSMU’s 90 year history.
The fruit of the research will be a visible media creation to be displayed
at both the Chalon and Doheny campuses to keep the CSJ legacy
and charism alive for students, faculty, staff and administration. Congratulations, Sister Darlene! v

Engagement Process
We commit to exploring new ways of partnering. . .
Twice a week, LEO CENTER volunteers (Life-Long Educational Opportunities),
go to a local parish to distribute bread, fresh vegetables and other staples,
provided by the St. Vincent de Paul Society, to those in need. On Thursdays,
we drive whatever remains to those without homes in Guerneville, to fisher
people affected by the “no crabbing” due to environmental disasters. Andrea
runs a thrift store and also makes her soup available each day. Her bread
source disappeared. However, she now has bread to serve with her soup. I
listen to their stories, see through their eyes and gain more than I give. v

“MUCH CHANGE
FOR PERU”
Yes, your help is needed for our
missions! Your generous support
for our Sisters in Peru will help
them as well as the people to
whom they minister. Our Sisters
know the face of Jesus in the
people that they serve in a loving
compassionate way in the schools,
parishes, prisons and other social
outreach sites. How can you help?
Each time you come to Carondelet
Center, put your change or bucks
into the large water bottle in
Sister Sharon Margaret’s office
on the second floor. You can also
mail your contribution to Sister
Mary Ann Leininger, CSJ at the
Congregational Offices at 10777
Sunset Office Dr. Suite 10, St.
Louis, MO 63127-1019. Yes, much
change can happen in Peru with
your change! v

Walking to Feed the Hungry
Carondelet Center residents have been participating in
the UNICEF program to walk for food for the hungry. The Sisters invested in 5 step counters through UNICEF’s
program available at Target. (Devices are made for
children so they are simple and cost $37/each). For
every 2,500 steps you gain a point; points build up and
buy food packets to feed people in areas where UNICEF works. The Sisters
share these devices using them for one week at a time. Two shared devices
will be purchased for the Holy Family staff use.
Vitas staff have decided to join us in their efforts and they, too, are
sharing devices. Recently Susan Bindell joined us.
If you would like to join the Sisters in this program, yourself, you can
purchase your device from Target, in person, or on line. You can contact
Alma Gutierrez for the details of how to join the Carondelet Center “Sister
Power” group. Your points will transfer to our account and we will be doing
this together– good for you and good for others! (Go to Unicefkidpower.org )
