Short notice, but sounds like fun:
Lani Piper is passing on an invitation from CDS member Sheila McNamara to join
her Saturday, October 8, for a drive to Saddle Mountain to see the changing
leaves. It’s about 3.3 miles (or 1.5 hours) up a dirt road from her place (4620 CR
100, Florissant, CO) up the mountain. Bring your own lunch and drinks. Contact
Sheila at 719-748-3466 for more information.

Event Organizers:
I’d love to put results and a report about your
event in the newsletter and on the web page.
Please mail or email information as soon after
the event as possible (7231 Eaton Circle, Arvada CO 80003 or [email protected]).
Extra nice would be if you could get participants or their “retinues” to send in a few pictures.
Thanks!

Attention All Event Organizers
If you incur an expense that needs to be
repaid out of the club’s checkbook you will
need to produce a receipt. There is a form
available for this and we will have them at
the membership meetings. We will also
provide copies in the Organizer’s Packet that
we are putting together. Receipts are
required to keep our books in order and our
treasurer sane.
Items that are donated need to have a
receipt for the value of the item and the word
“Donated” written on the receipt for tax
purposes. This can include judge’s fees if the
person judging normally charges for their
service.

The End Is Near!
The year is fast drawing to a end but CDS still has two very important events coming up:
the November planning meeting and the annual Board of Directors election.
The planning meeting (Sat., November 12, 10:00 am—location to be announced—check
the website) is when all the year’s events are mapped out. This is your chance to ensure that
your favorite events have a place on the calendar and to suggest some new ones. Another
picnic drive? A continuous drive? What about another SDTD or a map rally? Something entirely new? The club always needs people to organize or host events, but not all events require mountains of work—an help is available. Please attend the meeting and think about
hosting an event!
The annual Christmas party (Sat., December 17, 4:00-8:00 pm) is just plain fun, but is also
where new board members are elected. We’re looking for three board members. Serving on
the board is a chance to “pay back” some of the fun you’ve had at events, and to help determine the direction of the club. Meetings are held only every two to three months, so there’s
not a huge time commitment involved. Please contact a current board member to talk about
how you contribute and throw your hat in the ring!
Chatfield State Park Picnic Drive
Saturday, August 27
Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the Chatfield Drive. Wasn't the weather just
perfect? This year we did not have the threat of rain and lightning. What a gorgeous day! Safe drivers and ready to go with singles, pairs and the Jensens' four-in-hand. Of course, the picnic lunch was
delightful and everyone reported a fun time. See you all again next year!

Blue Jeans Pleasure Show, September 20
The Blue Jeans Pleasure Show was a wonderful, low-key driving event. It offered three standard
pleasure classes (working pleasure, reinsmanship and cones) and two more unusual and challenging obstacle classes. The first of these was a combined obstacle class where drivers negotiated a barrel pattern, a keyhole, and a pole-bending pattern. The second was a log skid where
drivers ground drove their horses through an obstacle course.
It was fun for drivers and spectators alike. Things moved along quickly, lunch was just right, and
the weather was great! Thanks to Toni Schmidt (organizer/creator/planner), the officials (Vickroy
and Andrita Ficklin) and our small but enthusiastic and capable group of volunteers!

Enter the Parade!
On the second Saturday of December each year, the Town of Parker and the
Colorado Driving Society will host the annual Christmas Carriage Parade. This
year’s exciting event, themed as a “Beary Special Christmas,” will be attended by
thousands on Saturday, Dec. 10. Be more than a spectator this year and enter the
parade!
Individuals, businesses and organizations are welcome and encouraged to enter as this is a wonderful opportunity to gain exposure and to give back to the Parker community. Commercial entries
are $75 and may display advertising for their business on their hired carriage as the parade is open to
equine entries only. There will be no entry fee charged to private entries that do not charge for their
services and do not display any type of advertising, other than for a not for profit group. Please note
that the Christmas Carriage parade is open to equestrian entries and marching bands only. If entering
isn’t for you, but you’d still like to help the event, sponsorship opportunities are available!
Parade space is limited and all entries will be taken on a first-come first served basis. All applications are due Nov. 4. Please visit www.parkeronline.com for an entry form and contact Julie Wassell at [email protected] or 303.841.0353 for more information on how you can be a part of
the 2011 Christmas Carriage Parade.

I love my Bird-in-Hand marathon cart. It’s perfect
for competing at the preliminary level and was very
reasonably priced. I also ordered new synthetic harness through Jack and I’m very impressed with the
quality of it and how well it fits my horse—and it’s
so easy to keep clean!
Jack was really great at helping me decide on the
features I needed for both the cart and the harness,
and the best part was that he came to my barn and
made sure everything fit properly and worked as
expected.
