From the Vicar’s Desk
Dearly Beloved in Christ,
Years ago a lady went into an ice cream shop in Beverly Hills, CA., to buy an ice
cream cone. She was surprised and shocked when Paul Newman walked in and
stood right behind her. She was determined to maintain her composure. She paid
for her ice cream cone, then confidently walked out. Outside, she realized she
didn’t have her cone. Not wanting to look foolish, she waited a few minutes
before reentering the store. When she didn’t find her ice cream cone at the
counter, she paused to contemplate where it could be. A soft tap on the shoulder
interrupted her thoughts. She turned to find herself face to face with Paul
Newman. He politely suggested that if she was looking for her ice cream cone,
she might look in her purse. (Something to Think About. Raymond McHenry).
When Paul Newman showed up he had an amazing impact on that lady. Famous
people tend to have an impact on us. What about Jesus, the divine Son of God?
How great would that impact be when it’s Jesus. This is what happened when
Jesus showed up in John 20:19-23. At times, things may seem hopeless. However,
Jesus understands and cares about us. He will make a difference when he shows
up. What difference will He make when he shows up?
1. Peace is what you receive when you have Jesus with you.
Jesus promises His disciples “peace.” Peace is not something that comes from
positive thinking. Peace is not something that comes from a pill. Peace cannot be
bought at Walmart. Peace is a gift from God. Jesus said “My peace I give to you.”
There was an occasion when Jesus disciples were on the sea of Galilee and a
storm arose. Jesus was asleep in the stern of the boat. The disciples cried out to
Jesus “do you not care that we are perishing?” In the midst of the storm Jesus
showed up. Jesus spoke to that storm as if it were a puppy. He said “Peace, be
still!” He brought peace into that situation.
2. He gives you a new Purpose when you have Him with you. Notice verse 21.
“As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” Notice the transformation that takes
place in the disciples. Up until that moment Jesus disciples were the frozen
chosen. They were petrified with fear. They had been neutralized into
ineffectiveness. After Jesus showed up he lit a fire under His disciples. He gave
them a reason to be alive. They went from being weak vacillating men to being
men of God who shook their world. According to church history and tradition, all
but one of Jesus disciples died a martyr’s death and the other in exile. A person
will not lay down their life unless they have found something they believe in.
3. You are infused with a new Power. Notice verse 22.
“And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive
the Holy Spirit.” In this passage the power referred to is the Holy Spirit. The Holy
Spirit comes to dwell in all believers. The Holy Spirit gives us power over our

weaknesses. We do not have the power within ourselves to live the Christian life.
The Holy Spirit helps us with our struggles. The Holy Spirit gives us power to live a
victorious Christian life. You cannot live a victorious Christian life in your own
strength. The Holy Spirit gives us that potential. Notice what Jesus said. When the
Holy Spirit is given a believer will have “rivers” of living water. May we allow Him
to have His way in our lives!
We are entering a new month and a new innings. Well, in terms of a new innings
MTC of Dallas, Carrolton Parish is getting ready for a change. The parish is waiting
for Rev Viju Varghese-the new Vicar. Meanwhile I consider this as a privilege to
have been given interim charge to serve the parish. I will be your servant. I am
thankful to Rev Sam Mathew, Ancy Kochamma, Jerusha, Jemima and Joanna for
their blessed service, who really worked as a family for the good of the Parish. I
wish and pray that in the next assignment that God has given them, they may
shine like candles. Hope to be with you and we as a family are looking forward to
serve you even as we discharge our duties in Farmers Branch MTC. Ultimately our
good God being glorified. May our good Lord bless you.

It is my pleasure to introduce and welcome our new vicar Rev. Viju Varghese
Achen and family. Viju Achen completed degree from Bishop Moore college
Mavelikkara, BD from Serampoore College ,Kolkatta and also has post graduation
in Media ( broad casting and film direction). His mother parish is Mavelikkara
Marthoma church. He is blessed with wife Sherin, Son Dennis and daughter Daryl.
His previous parishes were St. John’s MTC Mumbai, Udaipur Immanual MTC
Rajasthan, Venmony Sehion MTC, Perumpetty Jerusalem MTC, Chetpet MTC
Chennai.
